No pro video cameras. Has to be a stills camera and be able to shoot 4K. Can be either DSLR or mirrorless.

Thanks. I think that's everything now?

Time to get that features table done now.

Something along the lines of:

  • Crop factor: 1.5
  • Max "usable, clean" ISO: 6400
  • 4K rolling shutter: 22ms
  • Max codec quality: 10bit, 4:2:0, 400Mbit ALL-I

and so on...

Great initiative.

I would also like to know whether 4k is acheived through supersampling/lineskipping/1-to-1 pixels/cropping.

This can be just as informative as max usable ISO since it's often less subjective and affects both noise and moire.

Is there any objective measurement for measuring ISO?

I always thought that a standard measurement would be a good idea, but reviewers just seem to use their own judgement, which of course isn't comparable between different reviewers.

IIRC the broadcast standards quote specs but very few cameras ever get tested.

Because they don't match the DSLR or DSLM/MILC/DMC concept or their market segment, I guess. The most funny is Panasonic has introduced the DC designation since GH5 at least, so a bit sorta media convergence today, I second the notice.

Same here : ) Just posted half day ago how creative can end for hybrid use:

Gain probably would be better. ISOs between cameras don’t tell the whole story.

This would take research but would be very nice to have. As we all know, no 4K is a-like.

4K from a Fuji super-sampling from 6K isn’t the same as 4K from EOS R.

I understand why you left it off the list, but I've taken some very nice photos with the Pocket 4k, and the 6k would be just as capable, if not more so with the extra resolution.

I guess GoPro and DJI cameras don't count because of sensor size?

I've taken stills and used them as photographs, but it's not really the same.  Pretty difficult to use video to sync to a shutter, or do astrophotography, etc, plus IIRC the Pocket cameras don't do short shutter speeds?  ie, 1/500 or 1/4000 etc.

I've also used a GoPro for taking photographs, but I also understand why it doesn't fit with this concept.

I could put Blackmagic stuff on the list but then you'd argue why Z-Cam, etc. isn't there, and before you know it you've got RED and Arri on it. More simple to keep it to the same class of camera (DSLR / mirrorless / stills), the cameras the blog has always been for.
