I would wait to see for the real-world performance of the EOS R5, especially the 8K RAW and 4K/120fps.

Plus most of what we liked about the 1D X III  could end up on a much cheaper EOS R6.

$6500 is a lot for a DSLR these days, even if it is indeed the best one ever made.

Mirrorless cameras are a much nicer shooting experience for video.

I agree, the lack of a flip/tilt screen is kind of a deal breaker for me.

Thats one pain in butt that i cant get used too, is lack of tilt/flip screen! only solution if i dont want to lug around atomos is to use phone app for monitoring tho there is awful lag😪

so what does this mean for the 1dxm3, better wait for the r5 instead for video>?

If you would use the camera for sport/action photography 1dx III is probably a better choice. For mostly video I would wait and check the R5.  I normally have 2 1Dx (current and previous gen) but I now only have 1Dx III and planning to get the R5 as for remote 12fps mechanical is more than enough and don't need the best af tracking lag free shutter etc....

The R5 can or could be better than the 1Dx for video  in the following:
- It will have zebra
- 4k 120 fps even if it is line skipping or binning it will be better that the 1080 120fps of the 1Dx (that is not great)
- flippy screen!
- EVF
- 8K can become handy to punch in reframe etc..
- pretty sure it will be cheaper

1Dx is better:
- RAW in 50, 60fps
- 5.5k RAW (smaller) and easier to edit than 8k RAW
- longer battery life
- dual card same type (can record 4k 10bit proxy in one card and RAW in the other one, not sure)

Unknowns
- video quality (1Dx III 5.5 and 4k super sampled is really good)
- rolling shutter
- DR
- DPAF performance

It's only a rumour but the R5 has been listed at the equivalent of over $6k on an Australian retail site

That price doesn't surprise me but a lot of folk here seem to suggest it was going to be about $4k. Seems like it could be quite a camera but wonder who here would still get it if it was indeed $6k?

Listing could be a placeholder. Theres no way they should be accepting orders for the camera at this point anyway.

I reckon it will be close to 1dxmiii price point.

Yeah I def hope it is better then the 1DX III for video. Hoping on more DR.

If the hyped up specs pan out, the 6K price would not be outrageous. It is a HALO product that will generate a a lot of buzz for the RF mount, just like their extremely expensive lenses. They just need a good R6 to sell to the masses.

If yo are going to use 8K RAW, you shouldn't balk at that price either, since the expenses don't stop there.

According to a leak in Australia, it seems as if the price of the R5 will be $6,792 USD...

Source: https://www.newsshooter.com/2020/05/15/canon-r5-price-listed-in-australia/

Price looks too high for me, this is more a R1 price. Maybe it's a trick. Leak a higher price and then sell for a lower (but still high) price and everyone is happy. Don't forget the 5D4 was $3,499 at launch and it was a high price at the moment. Personally I think they will sell it for $3,499 - $3,999 max.

Well, Newsshooter editor Matthew Allard nuances the news item (the price of the camera having turned up in an Australian camera store web shop) by factoring in price difference between Australia and the US:

"So if I do a few calculations based on the difference in prices between the US and Australian deals on the 1DX Mark III you would be looking at a US price of around $5,800 USD for the R5."

Indeed. Maybe some youtubers will buy it for this price. But almost no professional will with the current economic situation.

What I meant is that the actual "leak" is BS.

I remember a store in Luxembourg was taking pre-orders for the 1DX3 months ahead of release for 10K €.

Just a highball estimate from a random store trying to get pre-orders & hype on rumour sites / google referencing.

Everything points towards a 5D class product, adjusted for inflation and the newer tech I'd say were looking at around 4K-5K tops.

The primary consumer is still going to be image and Canon won't sell a single R5 to photographers with a $7K price tag.
