Pocket 4K Remote Live View And Control Solution

So, I've been kicking this around for a while and have now found some hardware that I think is worth pursuing it with in terms of quality and more importantly latency.

Tying it into the 3C app with its new Title Nucleus Nano integration, we have this.

With this setup you can have all the usual 3C stuff of focus control, full parameter control, setup memories etc with the focus wheel and low latency live view from the camera.

What I'm evaluating is whether it is worthwhile me dedicating more time to in terms of progressing it as whilst its fully operational right now its a bit clunky to setup.

The question I have really is that whilst I hear a lot about people wishing the Pocket4K had remote live view capability, what is the reality in terms of how many of you would actually use it and more importantly how much people are actually prepared to pay to add this functionality on to their cameras ?

I think this is amazing that you're working so hard to bring new features to the camera, and I'm sure many people will love the option. That said, for me personally, I only used the remote live-view on my GX80 for the first time yesterday - had it for like 3 years.

However, if you're a 1 man crew setting up for an interview, this could be amazing. You sit int he chair and check focus and framing before the talent are anywhere near. Then you can have this setup in your lap to keep an eye on what the camera's seeing, without making it too obvious that you're checking the camera. - - you can almost pretend that you're just checking to make sure you've covered the topics you need or something haha.

Yep, I think this is the nub of the issue.

Whether its simply a wanted/wished for feature versus what sort of numbers of users of this particular camera have enough of a pressing practical need for it that they'd invest in a solution.

With the Accsoon Cineye now available, it may not be practical given that you can just use your app on the same iPad that you can control the camera too, by just switching apps.

Yep, this uses the Cineye.

Its the simultaneous aspect of it being on the same screen without switching thats the difference.

All to do with scaling the interface to enable it which is a bit more work and maybe even hosting the stream directly.

Ultimately, its whether people are prepared to pay the £200 for the Cineye that I'm trying to establish.

In some respects I've got no dog in the fight as I won't be making any money from the hardware so its more a question of whether its something worth including as a service option within the app.

Ohhh.. that makes more sense.

@BTM_Pix How did you capture the stream from the Cineeye?

It comes in over wifi and 3C and the Nucleus Nano talk to the camera over BLE.

There's nothing particularly elaborate going on currently as I'm just splitting their app and scaling the UI of mine to make it work.

Its a bit clunkier than I would like to initially setup but works perfectly once it is.

The question is whether its worth doing the extra work to do a single app that properly integrates their feed.

My current view is that it might not be as it might well work well enough for most people as is (plus I've got a fair bit on at the moment) but I'm going to study it a bit closer.

If nothing else I'll just go with a startup option on 3C to put it in reduced UI mode and a tutorial on how to set everything up so people who've got a Cineye can benefit from it if they want.

As I say, in the way I have it set up in the initial post with the Nucleus Nano wheel its a very nice little setup.

Oh I thought there's some kind of an SDK and you can build your own app, maybe your own monitoring tools for the stream that's coming via wifi.

i have your two other apps already, throw it in the app store for $4.99 and i'll buy it ?

er.. i'm a bit of a one man band, it sounds great but i haven't the foggiest idea of what the nano would cost in addition to whatever your going to flog me. It definitely has potential. you probably need to approach it like selling a Lamborghini rather than selling a ford. Its abit more specialist rather than something everyone has. I'm not against people making money...  but i'd get terribly distraught if you price it like a three letter company that starts with a   r * d .?

edit : i'm about to buy a cheap stepper controller kit for a motorized gopro slider, it will be a few steps below your god like level, but hey arduino's are fun and i like the voltage level, not quite high enough to induce a heart attack ?

Fear not mate, I'm not going to flog you anything :)

I'm just adding functionality in 3C that will glue these things together into one cohesive unit if you need to use them now or add them in the future.

As with all the other updates to 3C it is completely free of charge for existing users.

i'm on the outer loop then,?

i got the impression this was an some kind of hardware thingy that sat between the nano or cineeye, that was an extra cost.

er... i'll show myself out now

Well there is the phone holder that attaches to the Nano controller mount so don't forget to budget the extra £4.99 for that.

i have one already. After andrews video challenge, i bought a phone holder, i thought there was 50-50 chance the next challenge would be a phone challenge ?

I've suggested some time ago in another thread that using the Nucleus Nano with your apps would be a killer setup. Printscreens were done, the copyright claim in on the way.

Kidding, of course, was just a logical path. :)

I think that a tablet could be more useful for live view, a 7" unit could have the parameters in one or two rows and a larger image.
