Apart from S1, GoT was not mastered in HDR.

You are right, I think all seasons was edited in HDR and converted in SDR for broadcasting. Probably the blueray with HDR will be distributed later. I remember that for first seasons probably Alexa at 2.6K was used so not in 4K or more.

Actually, she wanted to do that in Mereen as well, but her advisors stopped her. If she had made the statement she wanted to make, she would not have had all of the trouble with the Sons of the Harpy afterward. What she should have done is made an example of the elite (which is what she wanted to do) and put the fear of god into them. Instead, she listen to Tyrion and tried to accommodate and co-opt them, which they saw as weakness and an opening to be exploited. Which is precisely what they did. You cannot be kind to your enemies until they KNOW they have been crushed. Otherwise they see your grace as a second shot at power. Then you have to put them down even more harshly, making the point you should have made in the first place.

SPOILERS!!

Varys gone in the first 10minutes. Cersei, the biggest and meanest conspirator and cynic of that universe, suddenly became just a fool and was waiting a miracle..The Dothrakis and Unsullied were the ones taken the heaviest losses when fighting the dead, suddenly they are thriving again?what are they?clones?Euron killed one dragon with a few ships, but now with all the Iron Fleet and the biggest and most fortified city can't even scratch one. All the fortifications and preparations of years destroyed in 5 minutes of film time. We didn't even see the famous Golden Company to even lift their spears! Euron appeared in front of the King's slayer, Jaime Lanister, talking some nonsense?! Euron..what a waste of character..Why the Hound had to die again? And so many other questions..

The massacre was interesting though, and the Arya scenes. Human nature at its best..

Let's see what happens next week..

SPOILER :                  Samwell Tarly killed more people than the Golden Company.

They really lost me when they started to write by themselves without following the book anymore. I felt it like a cards castle collapse : everything was rushed, unlikely, too easy. I couldn't enjoy the episodes anymore, as I was constantly obsess by the non-stop mess. Season 7 was, to me, really painful to watch, given all the things that had been built since episode 1 some years ago.
But these season is really really worse. 8 seasons that are supposed to lead to next Sunday episode that, given what we've got since 5 weeks, should be utterly disappointing.

Can't wait to pass to something else, like the next season of Dark (awesome German serie) or The Expanse...

... and still wait for the next book of George RR ?

I am a big fun of the Expanse too! But last season was suspect at points, this 4th season can make or brake it, make it classic or just a very good sci fi one.

Dark was very good also, not excellent but liked it better than Stranger Things.

One series I never expected to like but enjoyed for its first seasons (last ones are a tier down) is Brooklyn Nine Nine. Good and fun 20 minutes!

The Deuce is very good also.

I don't know what you are on about?

Are we watching the same show?

You are literally complaining that the show is "killing off some of the main characters, in an instant...." which this show is infamous for.... Did you forget about Ned Stark, Robert Stark, Geoffrey, etc....????

This I have to agree with.... but don't think too much into it... assume that the northerners had the numbers to facilitate the attack. You have to be a damn fool, King or Queen, to go attack a fortified castle AND you are outnumbered.... Tyrion as an advisor would have said its a fools errand.

 I agree and disagree...

But Euron's kill was by surprise... they didn't expect the attack and the dragon got killed because of it... ask yourself, this... both dragons were present when Euron killed the first dragon, how did he miss the opportunity to kill the second dragon as well?

I think, when you have that element of surprise... it gives you that advantage, if you point that spear forward, but the target is behind you - how long to readjust and re-aim before being able to hit the target?

I am wondering that too..

This episode so far, has the lowest ratings in the history of GOT both by critics amd viewers, right now is at 47% and it can goower, while the lowest ever was the "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken" with 54%

https://www.wired.co.uk/article/game-of-thrones-season-8-episode-5-review-the-bells

..most of the professional critics have written millions of words already of how terrible the writing has been.

The issue I have with Expanse is that it is not realistic about how life in space would be. It depicts a vast underclass of exploited low class ignorant people as being the population of these off Earth settlements when in reality these sorts of communities would be the exact opposite because of the level of technology needed to survive. Colonies on other planets are not going to be populated by a bunch of homeless people, it is ridiculous. It is far more likely that the reverse would happen, off world settlements would be elites while what was left over will remain on earth (precisely because they are largely useless).

The dragon also came out of the sun, which is the correct tactic to use when attacking from the air, because it blinds whoever is firing back.

As for the rest of the ballista, those sorts of weapons were very accurate but they took time to aim. While they might be able to rotate relatively quickly, elevation would be much more of a problem. They would be virtually useless against a moving target except through sheer luck.

There was also poor deployment of troops. Why position most of your best troops between the enemy army and your castle walls? That is just begging for them to be broken up and massacred. They had no forward defensive positions at all!

The attacking force was no better. The had no siege weapons. There were no trebuchets or siege towers, or even ladders.....how on earth did they expect to get into the city. Not to mention they camped their army right under the city walls, where they would have been in range of the cities artillery.....what a bunch of idiots.

Considering that Cersei had greater forces at her disposal, and Daenerys had a dragon, what on earth possessed her to adopt a strategy of concentrating her forces in a small area and hunkering down in the city? Her forces should have ventured out and taken the strategic positions at places like the twins, followed by proactive attacks on the weakened northern armies as soon as they could reach them. By doing what she did she gave up all ground to the enemy, which could then be used for resupply and replenishment of fighting men as local lords see who is occupying their lands and switch sides. They just had to wait her out and she would be guaranteed to lose. You don't win by retreating to your bunker. That is just a bonkers strategy considering that she had superior numbers of fresh troops at the start of the episode.

But The Expanse not only depicts "a vast underclass of exploited low class ignorant people". It also talks about Mars, a highly technologically advanced civilization, that once dreamed of transforming Mars into a Earthy like place. We can also see research stations etc. We even see what you describe, or sort of, with the biggest ship ever made, built to send people colonize distant unknown worlds. ; this one was not built to be loaded with "useless" people .

"Belters" or colonies as you describe, are, as I see it, only workforce. They live a shit life at the end of the solar system in order to exploit the resources for the others. I don't see them a "settlement", in the way, as you said, the elites could make. I'm not sure that in reality, the elites would hasten to leave a life on Earth to live in mostly "hard to imagine life" places as we can see in the serie.

I'll soon start the books, and I can't wait to see how the show differs from it !

The script writing is leagues ahead of GOT!

Earth solved the overpopulation problem sending people to space, first in the Mars colony, then the outer belt, but there are political issues in earth as well, it is not the gardem of Eden it used to be, it is not the Star Trek utopia but a deeply flawed place, but the best there is in this system.

The first 2 seasons were truly exceptional. 3 was good, some over simplifications (or the exact opposite!) at times but it really hold its narrative. It made sense in the end.

Has anyone watched the Nightflyers? George R. R. Martin Material, and in HDR, but is pushing behind in my To Watch list, every week for half a year now!

What a dissapointment the Star Trek re-boot is so far. Just another super humans product. The movies and the series just not worthy of the Star Trek name. I have recently finished watching all the TV series, again, so I am 100% sure..

You will not have people like that in space, because it is too expensive and consumes too many resources. This idea of floating slums drifting around space is absurd. It would be cheaper to ship those underclass folk back to earth and release them into the wilds of the prairies to fend for themselves without the huge overhead it would require in space. The people who would live in space environments would be very educated and skilled, they would have to be to survive.

They have been past that. OUR next steps will be with very well educated and skilled astronauts, in the Expanse's world, there are hundrends of years ahead of that. There are generations of people born on Ceres and the other colonies, with bodies changed by gravity and the conditions there.

Even now scientists are trying to find viable ways to bring exotic metals from space, it is already a thing!

I haven't watched the show, but the idea of slums in space isn't an absurd idea.

I'm sure the poor were probably rich going into space, and then lost it all in the stock market and became homeless in space ?

It is an absurd idea. The cost of maintaining someone is space is enormous compared to maintaining them in a place like Earth. Not cost in money (which would be a lot anyway, but that is not the main impediment) but the cost in resources.

It is comparable to the notion that people who are sent to work on oil rigs and then subsequently lose their jobs would just be left there to form a homeless community on the oil rig. That would just not happen.

It is a thing in science fiction. Unfortunately the energy costs in getting to space, then out to something like an asteroid, then back again is enormous and would simply be uneconomical. Lifting even something small, such as a satellite, into orbit costs tens of millions of dollars just for the fuel. It requires even more to leave earth orbit. Then there is the question of getting back, and that is a lot harder than going out. Anything like that is not going to be cheap, and it will be cheaper to just mine that stuff of earth.

Carl Sagan would have never been your friend!

I thought that it is common knowledge that the future of mankind is in space.

But to our point:

"It is estimated that some asteroids could contain all the platinum obtained from landmines in all of history and have a market price of hundreds of billions of dollars.

In fact, it is presumed that some contain iron, nickel or cobalt in sufficient quantity to cover the needs of the Earth for 3,000 years."

Google, Elon Musk, Amazon Bazos are the few that race for the space minerals already. They all loved and are inspired by Sagan..

I love it when the masses exhibit uncontrolled and undectated common sense, today GOT, tomorrow world peace! ✌ ❤ ✌
