There's no temporal element to any of the HDR features in new Sony sensors, it just won't work for high speed imaging.

The 605K e- FWC at base is simply achieved by hexa-gain readout. Period.

IMX490, an 1/1.55" automotive sensor, achieves up to 760Ke- with only 3um photosite.

What exactly is a "hexa-gain readout"?

Sony's new line of professional imaging sensors, Exmor GS, has entered mass production:

This is a new additional to Sony Semicon's current sensor line-up for consumer/professional imaging:

Exmor R (Reverse/BSI)

Exmor RS (BSI + Stacking)

will Exmor GS make its way into Sony A6500, A7sII and A9 successors?

I would assume if it made it into mass production it’s for the production of products mostly likely professional cameras.

EDIT: looks like misty industrial applications.

That press release was from 2015.

A hint: Exmor sensors are used in smartphone cameras, consumer/prosumer DSLR/mirrorless cameras, and cinema cameras.

Do you think it's likely Sony will sell Exmor GS sensors to Panasonic (GH6) and Fujifilm (X-H2)?

No. It's a speed-oriented sensor line-up with the elimination of mechanical shutter mechanism in mind. And it'll likely to be Sony exclusive for a while.

I'm fairly sure X-H2 will move onto the 2.91um gen 43MP Exmor R.

43MP APS-C sensor... I'd never thought I'd see one!

The X-H1 used the X-T2 innards so I would have thought the X-H2 will go for X-T3 sensor at 26MP... after all stills resolution not that useful for video shooters.

I'd like Sony to do a NEX 9... We never got one.. Just some poxy A6xx cameras.

4k 120p sure would be nice!

I'm shooting a lot of 1080 120p now football season has started, and although my vintage 70-210mm F4 and 2X TC probably only have 1080p resolution, it would be nice to get a 4K image to downscale and get proper 1080 output.

? Thank you @androidlad

When do you estimate Sony will ship an APS-C and full-frame mirrorless camera with Exmor GS sensor?

I believe one of the first Exmor GS sensors is 42MP FF IMX651, DR is similar to A9.

13.3 Stops is pretty respectable for a Global Shutter Sensor. I am guessing Sony will have some interesting HDR tricks to ensure both photo and video have multiple frames for improving video and image quality.
