Version 1.20 firmware on the Z6 II / Z7 II notes from Nikon -

https://www.eoshd.com/news/nikon-z6-ii-firmware-update-fix-for-eoshd-z-log-and-custom-picture-profiles-in-4k-60p/

It officially contains a fix for Z-LOG in 4K/60p and 50p where frame flickering / white frame corruption was occurring at these higher frame rates.

You can now use the custom profile again in all modes!

Very interested in your Z log for the new Z6 ll... the interanl is 8 bit... with your Z LOG, does internal change to 10 bit? Thank you so very much,

No it remains 8bit. The hardware is only capable of 10bit to an external recorder.

Hi,

while shooting a film with the new Z6ii and Z7ii we stumble across the problem with the dropped frame while shooting in 4k 60fps and using Z-log for both of the cameras. We found an easy solution to it to repair the footage but putting a "Posterize Time" effect on it in Premiere Pro but still, it is a bummer and we couldn't see any updates about it back in May.  I recently found an eoshd update from April about this here: https://www.eoshd.com/news/nikon-z6-ii-firmware-update-fix-for-eoshd-z-log-and-custom-picture-profiles-in-4k-60p/ but it doesn't show this issue while buying the Z-log on the official page.

All other formats and fps work fine with the new models except for the 4K 60fps!

So guys, be careful, we almost did an entire shoot of 2 weeks with this error. Every second frame looks something like this:

2 weeks with the error without realising?

A quick 10 second test clip would have revealed it.

Also you should always make sure your cameras are running the latest firmware update.

If Nikon's engineers accidentally broke their own custom picture profile support on two new camera releases, I am not responsible for that. It was up to them to put it right, and eventually they did so.

Not very good though is it Nikon?

Phone their customer support line and make your voice heard so they are able to put out more reliable tools.

Unfortunately, those were loaned cameras so we expected those cameras would be ready and updated.  There was no chance to test them as it was a very remote shooting location. Never doing a shoot without proper testing next time haha!

We had no idea about the firmware option though.

Gonna be in contact with Nikon about this.

Yeah I had no idea they broke it for it was like that for a good few months!

Good point about loan cameras, you are reliant on the rental house updating them then.

Anyway hope you enjoy the profiles once they started working again.

I have added a note about compatibility to the Z-LOG purchase page to the effect of "Z6 II and Z7 II are supported only with latest firmware update". I'll also upload the docs and instructions in the guide that come with it.

Cheers!
