Sent that piece of crap back. Wonder when i'll get banned from BH and Adorama. I've never seen quality vary so much in a Canon product, even the G7x, powershots etc haven't had this lack of QC. I never checked the camera, made in China?

Last week I picked up and EOS R and it have a ERR 070 message on it that would not go away no matter what I tried.  Ended up taking it back and swapping out for a working model.  It was really strange coming from canon.  The swapped model has been flawless.

I've run a few test with the it now and compared it to the BMPCC 4K, C100 MK2, XC10 and the 5D Mark 3 using magic lantern crop mode.
Lens = Canon 50mm f/1.8 stm
ISO = 400
f-stop = 2.8
C100 = EOS Cinema Standard Profile
EOS R/5D Color Profiles = Netural
XC10 = Customized Standard Profile
Pocket 4K = UDH Prores with Video Profile/ f2.8/500 ISO

My findings say that the HD cropped modes on the 5D and the EOSR match the image quality coming from the C100 MK2 in detail.  The non cropped mode is business as usual with canon but the cropped mode produces a great HD image.  The XC10 HD image can match the C100 and the EOS R crop mode but only a few cases (well lit interiors or day time exteriors).  The same goes for the 4K images between the cameras.

Surpassingly counter to what ALL the "YouTubers" have been saying about the EOS R in 4k being soft I have found that not to be the case.  I was able to produce a nearly identify image match between it and the Pocket 4k by tweaking a few setting in a custom neutral profile. Sharpness set to 4 and contrast set to 0.  Also a work on rolling shutter.  It's definitely there.  With wide angle lenses like the Tokina 11-16 it's not much of a problem.  It becomes a much bigger problem when you have tighter focal lengths on a a subject.  I've very pleased with the performance from the EOS R so far.

So what is wrong with the Tokina 11-16 on the EOS R? That CA is terrible. Just like mine on my M50. I thought it must have been damaged somehow without noticing. But now seeing you have similar results with your EOS R while the Pocket looks fine, I wonder if this could be camera related...

Hasn't the Tokina 11-16 always been huge with CA? I remember seeing CA on the 7d with that thing.

But look at the difference between the Pocket and the EOS R. Is that all corrected by the Cam? Or in post?

I cant remember seeing that much CA on my older Cameras (but they were HD only). These days I find the 11-16 almost unusable when shooting against a light source...

Looks like he has been trying to copy Kolder lol

to be fair he made that film to promote their transition course so it's pretty much on point.

I think with the lastest firmware update and the price drop, this camera has arrived at its sweet spot. I feel much more comfortable recommending it to people at this price point.

and you gotta love that autofocus with 50mm f1.2

that show has been with RF 50mm f1,2 ? Or EF adapted ?

that's the ef version, you could tell by the distinct lens flare. That lens used to be horrible with continuous autofocus. With the latest update it's brilliant.

RF is too rich for my blood

@xzobinx Is there a difference in AF speed between the EOSR + 5DMKIV?  I had the 50mm 1.2 and sold it because it was slow to AF and very soft.

I can't answer that since I have never shot with a 5dmk4. The 50mm f1.2 is softer than most lens and there is no other way around it.

As for AF, It used to be a hit or miss when I used with canon 80d and earlier firmware of eosr. After the update to eye AF, all my footage from bridal shot is spot on without exception.

Almost got the EOS R for the AF. Seen some good deals on used ones for $1500 or less. Still couldn't justify it when the XT3 can be had used now for $1000 with 10 bit no crop 4k.

I don't see the point of getting a used XT3 atm. The current cashback from fujifilm in Australia is just so good that I want to get one just to satisfy my GAS.

How good is the AF on fuji? I bought the R since I need a gimbal cam to pair with my p4k but xt3 has always been interesting.

I am very cheap that's why haha.

I've found the auto focus to be very usable. Its not Sony like though. I would love if it had object tracking. It seems to stay locked on wherever you have the focus box, but if its a moving subject it can be hard to keep it there.

Eye AF works well but sometimes it randomly hunts especially if you need it locked in place for a good while(for example speeches) I tend to switch it off for things like that.
