Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless talk hots up

Internal is 8bit 4.2.0 so not so good for C-LOG (did anyone else notice the horrendous banding in the skies on the video?) but at least it's 10bit ( and presumably 4.2.2) on the HDMI out. The variable ND filter is going to be a big plus feature and even at $400 it's not that expensive when you consider that good Vario ND's work out more than that if you need more than one for a set of lenses.

You got to remember though that the early eos cinema cameras were 8 bit and clog was fine for them. Being 4k will be an advantage in this respect too. I don't see too much of an issue. It's not like you have to do a lot of grading like with the sony's to get a half decent image.

OK sorry have not read all the pages. But is there also a crop in 1080p? or is that full frame?

As there is a crop in 4K, do you think metabones will build a speedbooster for this?

I am hoping ML can crack this camera to unleash its full potential. Too bad the cameras is only 12 stops of DR. Seems quite low this day and age.

ML isn't cracking anymore cameras, ML said Canon threatened to sue if they released any more builds.

Six year-old non-confirmed rumor from an unidentified source. Also, no mention of ML saying Canon threatened to sue. No comment at all from ML in the links you provided. ?

Supposedly, ML wanted to crack the 1DC but Canon threatened them and then never released FW to the public... you had to send it in for updates, I think. And without a public firmware, ML cannot perform a firmware dump and port a camera.

But Canon never sued them and ML has cracked plenty of cameras since then.

The reason they didn't crack it is because there never was a public firmware update. So they don't know where to begin.

The threatening part is just rumors so far.

Probably the reason why the 5Div isn't cracked. Have to send it in to get C-log.

Anyone do the math on the crop factor? it's looking way more than 1.6x

EOS R: 6720/3840=1.75

5D4: 6720/4096=1.64

Just to let you know, there are many ways ML can obtain a firmware dump without any public update.
