Look at this Nikon patent and weep...

If they go ahead with this product, they could really wipe Sony off the mirrorless map.

Also there's a 36mm F1.2!

But with lenses like these what price are they aiming at with the new mirrorless system?! $6000?!

It depends I guess on how good it is.      The Mitakon 50 f0.95 for Sony E mount is under $1000 but manual focus and after the initial interest seems to have not all that much discussion though that might be because of how many good to great normal lenses are available for E mount FF.

Im willing to wager that the reason is because its all manual. Out there, away from video forums you will have a really hard time finding people that would settle for a full manual lens. Even for f0.95.
Almost no one would buy such an expensive lens in the first place.
And hardly anybody would buy any lens no matter the cost.

So the little niche thats gonna go full manual... where talking a very select few.

There's def a niche market for manual focus in photography, look at the Zeiss all the way through to the Otus. Not to mention Leica. I think the 50mm 1.2 Nikon manual focus is still in production, too, obviously due to interest. (How any mofo can focus without live-view/Zacuto z-finder etc is another story.)

Exactly this. A very select few.

(Regarding focus without peaking and such crap. Practice makes perfect.)

I loved Nikon and want them to come back, but the more I shoot with m43 and smaller sensors I can't just stop loving the deeper DOF at similar light gathering. Not having paper-thin-pupils-focused-crap-the-subject-moved-f*ck! DOF is enjoyable at least. with a FF 50 at 0.9 they better get an AF-C eye tracking system better than a T-800 on a good day. The lens will be an eye catcher (heh) and sure people will love it but I'm doubting if it's not going to be a little of a marketing ploy, that's even if they release it.

Edit to say that I hate reviewing photos and find tip of the nose -then- eyebrow portraits... And screaming freeze! doesn't help :D
