Yes, of course!

First of all I want to state that I have no big experience with weddings -I married in my local town hall!- I have done just a few and I am a pro sight/audio technician since 1999 but honestly I am not at all very fond, and experienced, on such events, but I have been to a few weddings in England and Ireland, again there were a bit different (Catholics), definitely more booze in the Emerald Isle, and I have shot some here, just last year.

The whole thing lasts probably a few days;

there is a party a day before the wedding, and the wedding lasts from early in the noon (bride/groom preparations and various other shooting), then go to church and the ceremony lasts some time (depends on the priest, really), then you go to a different place were is the big party. Here, the party is consists of different parts, one of the part is traditional Greek music, this specific part - which is very important, especially for parents and grand parents - is being shot entirely and can last a few hours, depending of lot of different factors (how much energy the older generations have, if the couple is more traditional than not, etc etc), after in a while there is mixed music program, and later on, there is the younger's people party. In between there is the couple entrance, there is no speech but the couple goes from table to table and share wishes with ALL the people (some weddings have whole villages invited!). Then, after all these, and usually on an island, there is an after party, usually swimming on a beach bar. After most people are completely exhausted, we go and do some additional shooting of the place, some landmarks, and other stuff. We also try to add some interviews or some words, or else the whole thing is just a video clip, and I mostly work in documentaries, so I would like to add this aspect to these things.

For a "big", relatively good paid wedding on an island ( I am not talking about money, as most people from Portland, or Stockholm will laugh of what we earn for that amount of job!) we go early in Friday, start working slightly, do some drone footage, then the party, at night charge batteries, footage on hard drives and backup, next day in the noon we go to the bride and groom (different places, it is the custom) then church/ceremony, then the party, usually the after party (which starts early in the morning) but it doesn't always happen (thankfully!) and then some various shots, as I mentioned above. Between those, we are trying to add interviews, the footage, back up, and we are leaving Monday. One of the worst things, is if all these places are very far apart, that is a logistics nightmare, as

The usual output is the trailer, a 30min movie of the whole thing, the whole ceremony (2-3 cameras) and a big portion of the dances, certainly all the traditional part.

P.S Had some great time in Manchester when in England. Still have friends there.

Sounds busier than shooting a movie. Please tell me you charge at least £2,000 plus expenses...

Every job is different, movies are the top (again, not a market here, mostly doing shorts), but it definitely is busy, and very stressful! I am sure in other countries will be even worse, rich weddings in India probably??!! In general it is not my forte, for various reasons.

Hmm...We want to go there (we are doing 2-4 persons per good wedding, so the money have to be split in a lot of different directions), eventually, I will do more this summer, already booked a few and a famous athlete, but the market is very small, and everyone that can afford "a" camera (literally, a -whatever- device that can record video!) is doing weddings right now in Greece, also, because no one is giving receipts, I have huge difficulties competing with these people, also, hordes of people are doing weddings in the weddings as a second job, I know a carpenter, a lot of police officers, journalists, sound men, house wives and a lot of completely irrelevant people!

Some people I know from here are going everywhere in Europe to shoot weddings, as it is cheaper to pay someone from here - including flights, than rent someone in UK, or Germany, or Austria.

Kisaha   you are taking these fine people through a fairy ride.... You sound like you are the only film maker having trouble making ends meet and taking care of the business end of things.. Everybody is after you and your job while all the sony's  you have used were made out of chocolate......  Olivier was kind enough to share some stills and some technical details about what he shot and base his opinions on that..

Tone down the histrionics , most of us are here to share and learn from our betters, not insult everybody in sight while blaming everybody including the local butcher, the milkmaid, the security forces and the men in black for loss of income....

@josdr nice words, doesn't change my reality though.

I do not expect someone with no clue about the world, have anything interesting to say about cameras, while I expressed vastly my experiences to the community you chose to just personally attack someone you don't know.

Learn some facts before you open your gutter.

Unemployment rate in Greece is 23.10% 15th worst in the world (Lesotho, Palestine, Angola are just under Greece, to get the point) and second in youth unemployment just under South Africa with 45.20%

http://www.tradingeconomics.com/greece/unemployment-rate

A lot of hundred of thousands of young scientists have migrate abroad (most of my friends are all over the world, the numbers vary from 300.000-500.000, which is a huge number for such a small country), that is called "Brain Drain", read about the situation, if you care at all

http://www.ijbhtnet.com/journals/Vol_4_No_2_March_2014/14.pdf

Black money in Greece is equal to 9-10% of the GDP of the country, and because of the high taxation is growing every month, more companies prefer to go bankrupt (244712 business and 824670 work places lost during 2008-2015 on a 10-11 million country) and work illegally than pay Scandinavian taxes with no real benefits (the health system is going bankrupt, hospitals have no basic medicine and Greek doctors migrate for work, 4000 doctors ONLY in Germany), while some Greeks have 800billions on un taxed money is Switzerland, I assure you, I have none, of those.

http://www.keeptalkinggreece.com/2016/04/25/greeces-private-sector-244712-businesses-closed-and-842670-work-places-lost-during-2008-2015/

http://greece.greekreporter.com/2015/03/15/die-welt-the-greek-govt-ignored-800-bln-in-black-money-transferred-to-swiss-banks/

in general, the situation is called by some politicians and scientists as "financial genocide". Just do your research.

edit (just to be barely on topic): and yeah, I used the cameras and I didn't like them, why to say otherwise? I am not getting paid by Sony, and if I would, I would still speak my mind.

Apart from citing worthless wikipedia grade  stuff which do not really concern this forum  and reams of your "professional" sob story how about stop attacking people?

You have already done it thrice now and back-pedalled twice in this thread.. Instead of having a discussion of the a6500, you are constantly polluting this thread and some  others  with fantasy stories that seem to be a cross between Gulliver's travels and drunk on retsina stories, blaming everybody and everything for a tough market.

It is tough for everybody, you have a huge holiday market, find ways to tap it.  If you are not good with the business side of things try to educate yourself in that regard...  I will nevertheless give you a slight pass on that one since your countrymen have voted for  a communist government with some real hardcore stalinists in power.. Such idiots are not conducive to free enterprise .. Nevertheless this detracts from the original purpose of this thread.

Citing cherry picked links with irrelevant facts to 8-bit s-log derived footage from an a6500 and its suitability to grade,  manifests a huge chasm in understanding the purpose in replying relevantly to a thread.. And therein lies the true problem, where you believe that  whoever disagrees with you is clueless, and should be educated by you ,while you are not too busy fighting off imaginary destitute doctors moonlighting with Alexa's and Cooke lenses trying to steal the share of "your"  video market...

Seriously, I do not understand where this aggression is coming from, maybe you have some complexes with Greece, or Stalinists (you know nothing about Greek politics, this government passed extreme neo-liberal laws that the socialists/conservatives/multi party governments couldn't before).

1) I was asked about the Greek weddings, and replied, the story was ending there, until you came to save the integrity of the forum (or Sony, didn't understand)

2) didn't attack anyone, and I asked from Paul to excuse me, if the first sentence I ever wrote was offensive to him

3) just suggested my experiences of the a6500 being not appropriate for A camera as a wedding day, and the person we exchanged posts agreed that his friends using this cam as B/C or gimbal cam, and that is exactly what I said

4) my issues with this camera (and the a6300), are stated by the op on the CON segment of his original post, and I just add some facts.

5) in my UK University we were using our sources to our academic writings and Wikipedia wasn't the most preferable source, so I am trying to avoid it, while the only thing you do is some exercises in your creative writing course and try to use impressive words to cover the lack of facts and knowledge.

I don't know you, do not remember any of your posts, do not care, you are not going to play any role in my life.

Community: Sorry for the last couple of posts, the mod can delete them, if delete this person's attack too.

Let's move on, fellas. Nothing really extraordinary to see here. People simply diverge their opinions on each other. That's life! : )

Back to topic, a6500 would be my second choice to follow GH5, only because XT2 ruled out IBIS.

Pity that RS, though. 8-bit doesn't help either, even though 4:2:2 output can solve many problems, banding included.

:-)

Ahh he is a Nikon man at heart. :glasses:  Who hasn't had a Nikon in their life that is older, and a soft spot in your heart for them. My very first Real camera was a Nikkormat when I was in the Navy @ 19 years old. Bought it used in a pawn shop in Key West, Florida for 65 bucks lens and all I think was the price. Christ that was like Only 50 years ago. Jesus!!!

Money is a bless of this world, except when people really suffer about it.

Heck we all suffer about it, that we don't have enough of it.

If I had a ton of money I would be down in the Keys drinking Corona's and fondling my Arri Alexa XL. I would not be any better as a filmmaker because of the camera, and that I would probably be too drunk all the time to use it very well anyway.  :frown:

Oh and on a grim antidote. I have it in my will that when I die I am going to be cremated and my ashes thrown off the back of a boat, buried at sea in a sense, in Key Largo, my favorite place on earth other than maybe Naples, Italy.  A old sailor thingy.

Some people just hate Sony.

I dunno why, I don't find them any different to any brand.      They will do some things well and others not so great.

My CURRENT favourite camera is a Sony.     When it dies, its replacement could be from Lego for all I know (hopefully in a few years yet).

Yeah I have had 3 Sony A7 series cameras, mostly as photo cameras, and I loved them. Sony is doing all of us a favor for going for the throat on their cameras. I even had a old A100 Sony. It was pretty awesome back in the day except for noise above ISO 400 then.  :grimace: But every camera sucked with noise back then.

Funnily enough, Sony was the last maker I have used (lately anyway) and my first Sony camera was the biggest piece of crap and the worst camera I have ever owned by a long way.      I won a thousand dollars on a horse race more than ten years ago and digital was newish still so went and got a Cybershot something or other and it was garbage.     Was actually ok for a short period but had a bad sensor and all sorts of issues.

I didn't look at any Sony cameras after that until the A7 series came out and the two I have had have been the BEST cameras (for me) that I have had and especially the A7s.    If it had of been another company that made the first FF affordable to me mirrorless cameras that could adapt lots of lenses, I still would have got them (just happened to be Sony).

I have come to see things written about Sony that just doesn't match my experience.    EG ergonomics, colours, skin tone, menu access and even AF in some instances.
