Mounting 4.5" filters

So, I came across a big lot of 4.5" filters, including a few close ups, and bought them, since they're huge, but now I cant figure a safe, decent way to mount them in front of a lens!

 

Anyone has experience with this? Maybe fitting them to threaded rings?

Depending on how thick they are, you could have them cut professionally so that they fit into a 4x4 mattebox.

try a Cokin Z Pro system and force them into the holder

Matteboxes have 4.5" round holders (like the OConnor O-Box with a stepdown ring on the bellows).

 

You can also get screw-on step-up rings from your lens filter size to a 4.5" Round Filter Holder (usually two separate pieces that screw together and there's just enough room for the filter to sit inside).

 

I've still got dozens of 4.5" filters left over from a package I bought with my first ARRI 35mm camera, including some really old-style filters (like a Harrison Fog 5 filter... don't see using that any time soon!)

Get a mattebox that can take them, cutting them down would be a shame, diopters especially. Some folks really struggle to get diopters big enough to get the job done without vignetting.

I absolutely don't plan cutting them! hahaha!

Didn't want a mattebox either, since it's a huge piece of gear. I'll try to find some threaded adapters, or make one.
