I am curious why you think it would be more of a 'perfect' Magic Lantern raw video candidate than the 5D Mark IV or 80D or even EOS M6.

There's nothing even unique about the 77D, even within the Canon range.

I can't speak for them but Magic Lantern would probably prefer to crack the 5D Mark IV before touching the most uninspired, basic, boring camera on the planet.

77D is practically the same camera as the 80D. I am shocked it even exists.

The "5 axis stabilisation" is a con... it is the same old lens IS plus a digital crop, which softens the image even more.

I can think of a million other cameras that are more interesting from a technology point of view.

It's not even that cheap!

The video samples look more than just a con to me.

Smooth and jitter free. The softness would be negated by the raw of ML.

DPAF is the big one though... be it the 77D or 80D.... not everyone can afford the 5Div

Get a 70D then

Already has DPAF and Magic Lantern raw.

As of nearly 2 years ago.

I'd rather they cracked the EOS M5 or M6 anyway, as the mirrorless form factor is better suited to video.

I've been patiently waiting for the price of the 70D to drop, so I can do just that... hopefully the release of the 77D will help it to drop.

The M6 is interesting because I believe it isn't based on the Powershot like the M5, M3 and M10 before it... so that one may just be possible.

Doesn't the XC10 have the same software based IS? If so, I have yet to use a better IS.

Another generally boring Canon release, but could this be a turned into a beast by the ML team?

DPAF, 5 axis stablisation, decent low light, better DR

I guess the issue is whether the buffer/SD is fast enough to write a usable resolution in raw.

Digital stabilization 1080p, wow so exciting (for us)

Of course you care, Digital stabilization reduces FOV - crops the frame and also hearts sharpness. On sensor IBIS does not suffer from this. In editing software, you can at least decide how strong you want this affect. And when you shoot 4K (which the XC10 has) with stabilization to get 1080p, you are getting much sharper results you can only dream of when using this 77D.

The camera might be using some gyro data that simply is not possible if you do it in post. I'm not a tech head, so put simply... I really do not care. If I am getting a stable image, with amazing AF and good quality 1080p, like on other ML raw cams, I couldn't care less.

ps the XC10 only has full IS in 1080p anyway.

Like i said... i seriously don't care if there is a small crop, as long as it works. It's an s35 sensor... a small crop is hardly life changing.

A small crop on the xc10 is much more serious due to the small sensor... yet i still dont care... because it works!

The g85 cant have magic lantern... so no point thinking about it in terms of my original post
