hello I wish to buy a cheap rig it's my first one I saw those models I'm looking at the specs/images wich is it the most balanced in your opinion?

I will mount my canon 7D on top of it, with my canon 50mm f1.8. I use to shoot at max aperture or close so I will need to use my left hand to focus very often (important detail).

I'm a little bit oriented over option 3, but I'm scared because I like to get close to peolple when I shoot and I'm scared that having a rig could make them feel unconfortable. what do you think about it? how to handle this problem? thx

if you have some tips suggestion ovre other products or even balanced diy projects let me know please! thx a lot! :)

EOSHD Pro Color 5 for Sony cameras EOSHD Z LOG for Nikon CamerasEOSHD C-LOG and Film Profiles for All Canon DSLRs

I had the 2nd one. I used few times with my GH4, but I sold it since it was not really well balanced.

At the end I've bought this one that is very good and cheap if you consider you have a good follow focus, a cage etc...:

If you need less things there is also this one:

Hope that helps... :)

Yeah, don't think that's really going to make you all that happy. I think some proper entry level rigs are e.g.:

Maybe something like this from Kamerar: http://kamerar.com/collections/rigs-stabilizer/products/socom-video-shoulder-rig

Or Ginirigs... http://www.ginirigs.net/product-category/dslr-rigs/

Then there's Proaim/Camtree (Cinecity)... https://www.proaim.com/camera-rigs-supports/camera-cages-shoulder-rigs/for-dslr-mirrorless-video-camera.html

Or just do something modular you put together yourself. Get a cage or base. A raiser with rod support. A rod displacer. Some rods obviously. Handles. All sturdy but lightweight metal or carbon. A shoulder pad. Magic arm. Movofilms has some decent stuff. Smallrig of course.

If you really have no budget... well, maybe hit the casino to atleast double it? :tounge_wink: And then something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Filmcity-Shoulder-Support-Mount-Carbon-Fiber-Rig-Stabilizer-fr-DSLR-Camera-Movie-/122152704355

13:20 he uses a $20 shoulder mount that works.

It seems quite a few online reviewers like to kit out that inexpensive plastic shoulder rig. I've got the same rig, but it's sold under the name of Beike here in Vietnam. Although it is all plastic, it is very durable. I still find it doesn't give enough support, so I may try out the Kamerar eyepiece this afternoon to see if that extra contact point helps.

most of these have the camera in front of you so you should get something that has a way to use counterweights on the other side of your shoulder if you will be shooting for long periods of time. Making it heavier this way will not only help balance it making it more comfortable but it will also steady the shots since dslrs are so light.

Forgot to mention you can have 2 hands free.

CowboyStudio Shoulder Support Pad for Video Camcorder Camera DV / DC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036NMQ7S/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_InSaybC0567QA

If you're not going to spend mega bucks then I think this is by far the best option.

Yup, definitely do the cowboy studios rig.  It's very nice being able to let go of both hands, and the thing just works.  It's got some quirks too, for example, your breathing can affect it more than a traditional shoulder rig because of the front pad that rests pretty low on your torso.

Having said that, you can't do better in the cheap range, and the thing is indestructible and folds up nice and small - can throw it in a backpack.

You should just make one from PVC from home depot. Google PVC shoulder rig and you will find tones of tutorials and examples and you can come up with your own design.

Personally I feel like you should either go super cheap eg. PVC from home depot or high end expensive stuff. I rarely fall in the middle

It would take a lot more work and same if not more money if he doesn't have any tools, than the cowboy studios one. :D

No tools required. ~$10 worth of piping and fittings and $5 for black duct tape.

nvm your right you need a drill and drill bit I forgot about the screw mount part.

I always take my tools for granted lol.

Having said that I am sure you could find someone who has a shop/drill you could use.

  • 3 weeks later...

hi! my final choice is between the two rigs shown in the images below. which one do you suggest me to get?

1) basic cowboy studio style shoulder rig.

2) this one is an upgrade with hand grip. it costs about 12 euro more than the first one. my question is does it worth the money?

I don't think the plastic grip is worth the extra money. You can find a handle with 1/4 thread made out of metal for about $10USD.

thx for help how do you suggest to mount it?

I have found handles such as those ones did you meant ones like its?
