The image is different in my opinion though. Something about the 1DC looks different than C300mkii, IDXii...

I guess with the 1DXii it could be the lack of C-Log, but even the Cx00 lineup has a different looking image, with C-Log.

Do you think it's the full frame aesthetic mixed with c-log? With the right lens, those creamy OOF areas add a totally different texture to the C-Log.

i agree

just for the record, i wasnt suggesting that these cameras all produce the same image

what i wanna see ideally is the color we get from ml raw on ALL canon cams

Even at $5k, you have to ask if it makes sense to forego the features that the 1DX Mkii bring to the table.

Agreed, I still find it expensive compared to the 1Dx2 at $6k.
Only $1k less but loosing the better DR, Dual Pixel, 4k/60p and all the better photo features. I'd take that over C-Log.

14 FPS stills not ground breaking enough for you. 16 FPS in liveview?

I don't think its the full frame aesthetic. It's more to do with how smooth the image resolves. They also look very thick and robust. The main problem I was having with the C100 was the image looking thin (although the color was great).

Each frame is compressed individually with mjpeg, that with c-log could add a smooth heft to the image, but I'm just guessing because I noticed the same thing. I also noticed a weight to the 1dXii image but not that smooth cinematic quality the 1dC has. But don't get me wrong I have liked most things I've seen shot with the 1dXii as well.

The 1DX Mkii seems just as cinematic to my eyes. However, it seems to lean more towards the more modern variety of cinematic which is becoming the new look of cinema. Times change, and it appears Canon is moving ahead with the newer look.

Cinematic is sometimes a subjective thing. The 1dX ii has a beautiful image and that video with the hot girl riding on the back of a motorcycle was very instrumental in bringing me back to Canon... Their colors are just undeniable... In their most basic out of camera looks and when graded. If I were a richer man, I would love to own the 1dX mkii.

Is this deal only going to last a few days?

Good question... It's listed on BH as an instant savings. The price isn't even listed in the Canon USA site. I just bought an XC10 with the "instant savings." According to Canon, it's up on the 31st, but when I received my sales slip from BH it states the instant savings is good until 9/31/16. I have a feeling this is a final price cut to get rid of inventory. Photokina should be an interesting show for Canon.

The Roger Machin reference to the 1DX II "replacing" the 1DC is something we have discussed on here before. It's just an off-the-cuff remark by a Canon regional rep for SA and not Canon's official position. Canon's main rep on the 1DX II, Wasim Ahmad, has stated the exact opposite with regard to the 1DC and 1DX II as "separate lines."

Given that the C500 and 1DC are both massively discounted from their original prices, I suspect those two models are going to be replaced by newer models in the near future. If Canon does announce a 1DC II, it will come after the 1DX II sales have been mostly exhausted. I'm sure it will be nearly identical to the 1DX II, but will add a few features from the 1DC that are intentionally missing.

I would bet far more on a 1DC II with C-Log than the idea of the 1DX II getting C-log out of nowhere. Canon just doesn't work like that. We all know that C-Log is exclusive to the Cinema EOS line and camcorders like the XC10 (which is under the same cinema/video division).

Sorry, but Wasim Ahmad is not Canon's "main rep"... He is in fact not a Rep at all. His title is "Technical Specialist". On the other hand Roger Machin is indeed a Canon Rep. And his official title is "CPS Pro Rep Photo & Video". So he should have a good understanding of where Canon are going with both photo and video. But feel free to discount what the man says if it does not fall inline with your reality.

And IIRC, back when this discussion first came up, many were pointing out that the 1DC was still in production... Lets see how much longer that one last.

Honestly, are you really hoping for a 1DC Mkii? Then be ready with checkbook in hand as the last one had a $15k MSRP. Personally, at that level there are many better options.

When I first mentioned this month's ago many people got upset.  Me, I went out and bought the 1DX Mkii and haven't looked back.

You keep bragging about that camera and I'm going to take it away from you and stick it up your ass and pull the shutter release until it goes 'click click.'

And you will be looking back... with a tear in your eye... for C-log. Ain't never going to happen.

DPR just posted the review and they notice a  "significantly improved dynamic range". Again I've not tried it.

Of course, the point is that I would choose the 1Dx2 over the 1DC anytime especially when the price difference is so "small". 5k for the 1Dc and 6k for the 1Dx which brings 4k/60p, Dual Pixel, better DR according to DPR, etc.
Now if the 1DC gets around 3k, I would reconsider.

DPR is talking about RAW stills. Video DR is completely different story.

See this review:

Basically, 1DX II is noisier in the shadow than 1DC in video mode.

Rep vs. Specialist is just semantic nonsense. Wasim Ahmad has indeed been Canon's main rep when it comes to the 1DX II release. He has been its main spokesman at every major video/photo event since before the release, including NAB 2016. Roger Machin is just a regional Canon rep and nothing more. You can choose to believe whoever you want. The reality is that the 1DX II does not have any prospect for a "firmware upgrade" that adds C-Log or any of the other exclusive 1DC cinema features.

I have no idea how much a hypothetical 1DC II will cost, but, if it improves on the original, it will be worth every penny in my opinion. As it is, the 1DC is a magnificent camera with image quality unmatched by anything out there in the DSLR world. A 1DC II will be a dream camera for many.

I don't understand why you guys are arguing this. 1dc is a cinema camera. The 1dxii is not. Sounds like justifying a purchase to me. Just be careful with how you guys argue these things unless you're using these cameras in actual professional shooting environments. I can tell you from experience that shooting with a dslr in a set environment again kinda sucks. DSLRs were never supposed to be used on set. We just made them work.

Cant argue with that image tho and c log on the 1dc looks better than any of the other C cameras in my opinion.
