Parfocal lenses

Nether of these articles claim that the 24-105mm is parfocal although they have comments in reply that contradict that

Stills photographers don't really care whether a lens is parfocal or not as they always use AF so I suspect that being parfocal is not a design goal for Canon's still photo zooms & if you have a model that is you should just be grateful.

Just happened across this thread which does a shootout with a bunch of zoom lenses to test their ability to retain focus:

The Canon 24-105 does pretty well, but the Sony kit lens 18-200 seems to come out best (although it isn't constant aperture...).

 

It's not easy this lark is it?
