I'm letting the camera off the hook here.

The fault is with the shooter.

He was using ridiculous shutter speeds like 1/250 or 1/1400 with no regard to ND filters. 180 degrees should be 1/48 for 24p.

That is going to heavily reduce the cinematic look unless his shots are locked down - but he was shooting tons of motion so you really notice.

The guy also needs a proper handheld rig. It felt like the camera was given to a monkey on several cups of coffee who had been accidentally let lose inside a car and on a race track. So much jittery framing going on.

The gradation and tonal range was lumpy and his contrast was poor, mainly due to LOG and not grading it properly... But I have to say that is partly down to the camera as well, not giving that smooth transition between tones and again it all looks very 8 bit now I am use to 12bit raw for my $3000 :)

4K and a large full frame sensor are a kind of magic.

The rest of the camera is your standard Canon DSLR fare. It has moire too.

ZERO motion blur. I blame Private Ryan... But that's personal taste. I really have to dig to find any footage of any camera that has a smooth motion blur to it. They all have the "stuttery" look. ..and some people just manage to take $15,000 cinema cameras and make them look as video as possible, lol.

Supposedly shot with Canon lenses. Theses lenses have a certain look. Other lenses may or may not give a different look??? Also, it was graded in a certain style. It does have a filmic feel to it. It'll be interesting to see more footage as it becomes available once the camera is officially released.

I'm sure most of you have seen this:

Definitely has a special look.... Not excatly filmic, but not video either.

to be honest, with the production values on this piece you could get equal results from any current dslr with 1080 capability. this aint 3-4 guys playing with a hdslr, this is a full commercial budget short that cost probably as much as a 30 minute bbc drama. looks nice though

I swear Canon should stop giving "cinema" cameras to photographers to shoot video. Seriously, that video is indeed a monkey on caffeine! And WTH with those shutter speeds? I think we're done with the super short DOF, but in those shots? And no stabilization? Damn shaky shots making me sick. No wonder Canon is going down. How about getting real cinematographers behind the camera instead of photogs?? Forget LaForet, the guy is a one off. No photog can compare to real cinematographer.

It appears the 1DC is expected to be available for December 26, 2012.  Boxing Day.

Why the doesn't Canon at 10 bit?

Price lowered to $11999 on the BH photo webpage.  It was originally $12999.

Should read:

Why doesn't give at least 10 bit instead of 8 bit?
