Chris Mann Posted January 25, 2012 Share Posted January 25, 2012 A Zoom H4N is still going to be more versatile as it has XLR inputs and phantom power allowing you to use proper professional microphones. The Rode VMHD only has a mini jack socket which limits you to consumer mics. If you want to place a self-contained recorder close to the action, check out the Zoom H1, which costs about £80.
