3. Hi all, my first post here. I finished putting together this little test. It's been fun, testing out my lenses, shoulder rig, monopod and also editing and playing with the sound. I've been using my Canon 7D for four years now, only for stills. Lenses used: Vivitar 70-210 f/3.5 (heavy lens on the shoulder rig!), Nikon 75-150 f/3.5 (lovely lens!), Nikon 55 Micro f/2.8, Olympus Zuiko 50 f/1.4 (perhaps a couple of shots with the OM Zuiko 28 f/3.8, don't remember...). Hope you'll like it!

 7. Hi there,   I am currently working on a research project for my final year in university where I study film production.   The paper is called "The Evolution of the Cinema Camera" and will discuss the technological advancements within the cameras through the decades. In particular though it will focus on the move from 35mm film to digital.   For the project I have been talking to various D.O.P's and also camera companies such a Panavision, Arri and RED, and getting their opinions on the change from 35mm to digital.    However, with digital now the primary choice for shooting a film, companies such as Canon began creating DSLR's with video shooting capability and with that came a new type of film making. It is this type I wish to speak with you all about today.   I want to know your opinions on DSLR film making and how you think it stands up to industry standard digital cameras. Do you think the market is being flooded by films shot on a DSLR that have no real quality to them or do you think DSLR film making has opened the doors to people being able to do what they want and create their film?   Why do you think people went from film to digital? Was it because it is cheaper and faster to work with or something else?   If you had the choice to work with either format which would you pick? Film or digital?   What do you think is next for the film making world? Digital cameras are now shooting extreme resolutions such as the RED Epic being able to shoot in 5K and 3D is beginning to show the world it is not just a fad as more and more films are now being shot in it and not just post-converted. What do you think the next big 'thing' will be?   I also created a poll which you are welcome to do if you wish? It simply asks the question, "Which do you prefer? Film or digital?" and then gives you the option to pick which. The link for this is below:   http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=515b2863e4b0ecbcda3739ce   Feel free to comment and share this post, the more opinions I gather the better. Also if you have experience in working in both film and digital and would like to be part of the project itself then please get in touch and I will arrange an interview with you.   Thanks guys!   Dan.
 8. Hi!   Can someone confirm if the image quality recorded OUT TO MXF is the SAME or not when using these two different modes?   - Only MXF internalrecording to CF (1920x1080 8-bit 4:2:2)   - 2K priority mode enabled, 1920x1080 output selected AND recording to MXF internally to CF.   I am obligued to activate 2K priority in order to have the 2x MON outputs enabled (not active on "only MXF), but read somewhere that the resulting MXF signal recorded internally is derived from the 2K/HD output, whereas if using the "only MXF"mode, the signal bypass one process (Sensor->MXF vs Sensor>2K/HD>MXF).   Is that right?   Thanks Luis
 9. Many people find that a 2x (3.55:1) aspect ratio is just too narrow for their liking. The good news is that if you are using a 2x lens and you have a DP4 monitor, you can compose and shoot in 1.5x. This allows us to enjoy all the benefits of 2x glass (greater availability, lower prices, more dramatically stretched bokeh) with none of the headache. Here's how to do it:

Choose a Preset number so that you don't have to make these adjustments every time (just scroll back to the Preset).
Under the Advanced Menu, go to Scale and select 2.35:1.
Go to Custom Scale and input the following values:

HSTART: 706

HSIZE: 94

VSTART: 500

VSIZE: 600
Now you are set to monitor in 1.5x. I have created an Apple Compressor setting that I just drag-and-drop onto incoming footage that squeezes AND crops the footage to 1.5x before I even begin my edit. It helps keep my render time down and I don't even have to deal with the trimmed footage area if I don't want to. These values may also work on the DP6, but I haven't tried it.
