My cameras and kit

  1. Hi everyone, This is my first real shoot on my new GH3. Report of a very cool snowboard contest in french Alps (Semnoz). Handheld with two prime lenses : Oly 45mm f1.8 and Oly 12mm f2. Edit in Premiere Pro only. Your comments are welcome! I'm a newbie, so I need advices. Thx
  2. I've made the switch to M4/3 2 months ago. So far, couldn't be more happy, but then again I have done nothing but well-lit shoots or with plenty of daylight. But, in a few months I'll be shooting a few wedding videos again. Which means I'll be facing the challenges of shooting in low light. My Canon T3i did a decent job, even though going past 1250 ISO meant macroblocking and all kinds of ugly artifacts. The noise on my G6 is much less obnoxious, but it's still a lot less sensitive to light than my T3i. So, I'm looking for a solution to shoot lowlight and still stay within M4/3. Without having to setup lights (strictly ambient light shooting). From the few tests I've done indoors, the G6 seems to lack that extra bit I need. Is the GH3 the camera to pick for low light shooting ? And is it's sensitivity comparable to the Canon TXi series (read : the 7D sensor) ? Or is it the GM1 I need ? To be clear : lenses aren't the problem (shooting with a 25mm 1.4, 35 1.7 and 50 1.4). Anyone else made the switch from a 7D, T2i or T3i to a GH3 or GM ? Couldn't find any direct comparisons online ... Thanks in advance.
  3. I am hoping to use the GH3 for a run-and-gun doc camera. I would like to use a lens with a long zoom range that also has built in image stabilization. Does anyone have experience or concerns with DX lenses/Metabones Speed Booster for GH3? Can I expect stabilization (VR) to function correctly? Will I run into vignetting problems? I don't use AF for video, but will it function for stills? Will the camera control the aperture, or will the dial on the adapter do that? I'm looking at the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/644744-USA/Nikon_2192_AF_S_DX_NIKKOR_18_200mm.html with Metabones Nikon G to Micro Four Thirds Speed Booster on the GH3. My calculations suggest that this should give a GH3 equivalent of 13-143mm with a 1-stop gain. Thanks! I have been reading EOSHD for a few months now and find it such a good resource. PS: Why not use a Panasonic lens? I have not been happy with panasonic lenses as they seem to have poor behavior when it comes to zooms, which I sometimes want to keep. The 14-140mm has a focus flutter on zooms, and the 12-35mm, which claims a constant aperture of 2.8, actually opens up and closes down in steps while zooming, basically creating an exposure flutter. I have samples on vimeo, but it's down right now. I can post them later if someone wants.

    Along the way

Hi ! I wanted to share with you my video done with a GH3, a D5200, a Dji Phantom 2 drone and a GoPro 3. I hope you dream and travel with me trough these images
  5. Got my SLR Magic Anamorphot set yesterday and ran out the door to get some video. I really like the new SLR Magic Anamorphot. Great solid metal build and heft. Easy to adapt, with threads on the front for diopters. I shot this comparison with the Panasonic LA7200. I wish I had a proper wide like the Panasonic 20mm, but I'll get one soon enough. The widest for the SLR Magic Anamorphot is 20mm MFT, but the Panasonic is 14mm. That is the only real advantage of the LA7200, the wide shots. Otherwise the SLR Magic is just worlds better in terms of usability, size, and the ability to use diopters and ND filters.
  6. Shot a short video with the Lomo Anamorphic 35mm Square Front on the GH3. It's true that the OCT18 version is difficult to work with, so I managed to make it work. The close-ups were shot with hand-held Hoya diopters. The simple rig that I used. ( )

  8. DOP Klaus Merkel and directed by Nikolai Müllerschön For the first time the cameraman worked during this collaboration with Panasonic cameras with up to ten parallel GH3s and thus can shoot each scene simultaneously from a variety of different settings. In this case, the camera man convinced the compactness of the GH3 over classic cinema cameras: "With her settings were realized, which are difficult to implement with traditional film cameras. Scenes inside a car or fancy angles can be on set with the GH3 so easily realized. "Merkel said the editing reserves that the footage (All-Intra 72 Mbps, in mov format) also offered in post-production. "Behind the scenes" is viewable on Youtube also downloadable -173 MBd http://hybridcamerarevolution.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/upcoming-german-film-frauen-women.html
  9. Hi all, I'm a long time user of Canon cameras for both stills and photog. I rented a GH3 this weekend, to check out all the praise regarding this camera. One of the things I found helpful on this site when I was playing around with 5D's is Andrew's 5D III Settings Vault post on the main site, with his Neutral and Faithful settings. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to color match 5D's with GH3's. There will be situations where I will record video in low light and shallow depth of field situations on my 5D, as opposed to using the GH3, but would imagine using the GH3 for everything else, and I wanted to get some advice on the most effective way of matching the cameras. Right now, they look distinctly different, in color, and sharpness. Anyone?
  10. I shot this music video for The Fold using the GH3, and a couple of car exterior shots with the Blackmagic Pocket Camera.   https://vimeo.com/76622768     Lenses: Panasonic 12-35 2.8, Rokinon 35 & 85. Black Pro Mist 1/4 filter on most shots.   I used an Ice Light for a couple of shots where I had no access to power, and it totally screwed me. Check out the motel scene, and  you will notice rolling bands. I later figured out if the intesity of the light wasnt at 100 then it created the bands. For the most part I was totally pleased with the GH3, especially with the 60p.
  11. I'm traveling to NYC end of October.  I'd like to see if there are any Anamorphic shooters in the city.  I'm bringing my GH3 and 5DmkIII, be nice to get some Anamorphic shots of the city.  Let me know thanks!
  12. Model Kyllie music video shot with Canon 5DmkIII RAW and Panasonic GH3. This is my first foray into shooting a music video with slow motion in mind. I also wanted to shoot with Anamorphic lenses and use a Steadicam for movement.  Learned a lot from this shoot, I hope to make the next one much better.   https://vimeo.com/72950991
  13. Created this short Ode to Summer to test my 'new' Trump from Dogschidt Optiks. Flare beast and 1.5 anamorphic bokeh. https://vimeo.com/70412767

  16. Hi!   I'm thinking about buying the "EOSHD Panasonic GH2 Shooter's Guide" but I have a GH3 and not a GH2. Is this going to be a significant problem for me if I buy the guide or is the advice included also applicable to the GH3? I suppose the two cameras are quite similar, but I am quite new in the world of DSLR filmmaking and I do not wish to be confused...   Thanks, anax276

  18. As a result of a slight cash shortage I have decided to sell 2 of my most prized lenses. Yes it hurts ;)   - Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95 (SOLD) - Olympus M.Zuiko 12mm f/2.0   [attachment=562:voigt+olympus.jpg]   Both are extremely sought-after prime lenses for the Micro Four Thirds system. The Olympus is arguably the best wide-angle lens available for the GH2 and GH3, and the Voigtländer's reputation as a beautiful video and photography lens is well-deserved.   Both lenses are in perfect working order, with only a few minor cosmetic bumps. The glass is completely free of scratches, internal dust or fungus.   Lenses are on offer seperately or together with a generous discount ;) PM me for pricing & more photographs if you are interested! Or contact me at jack.versen@gmail.com.

 http://www.ulule.com/womanhattan/   PROJECT SUMMARY:
For 20 years (1993-2013), I got used to go with my girlfriends to New York, and set my love memories on film...
WOMANHATTAN is a film from my point of view as an obsessive director: the obsession of filming my girlfriends in New York, the obsession of magnifying them, the technological obsession of finding the camera shots that best reflected my feelings.
WOMANHATTAN is a trip back in time, before and after 9/11, where I take us to the heart of New York and its urban landscapes, my thoughts on the passing of time, on love and the possibility of being free one day from my obsessions, and living fully the present and my love life. To discover my world here is the teaser :   https://vimeo.com/31303587     And also on facebook :
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Womanhattan/308092392578172 I hope you find this project exciting and unique enough to be a part of it. Thank you! Seb Farges   https://vimeo.com/51028337
  20. Hi all,   Sadly, its time for me to part with my SLR Magic 12mm f/1.6 Hyperprime Micro Four Thirds Lens. I simply haven't had the time to get the use out of this that I would like: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171063978961   My hope is that it goes to a good home :)   Let me know if you have any questions,   Adam
  21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omPfM6nBpt8   A short video of the busy Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok International Airport. In 2012, 56.5 million passengers and 4.03 million tonnes of air cargo passed through Hong Kong. HKIA is connected to about 180 destinations, including 48 in the Mainland, through about 1,000 daily flights by more than 100 airlines.
  22. Ok so I just got my rikinon for my gh3 that i also just got and i started to play around with it but both in picture mode and video mode, it said "NO Lense attached, or record without lense in custome mode",  I herd this sometimes might happen, I checked that its right, put it on and took it off several times, nothing changed,   I got it to work by going to menue options and turning ON the RECORD  WITHOUT LENSE MODE,  now pictures and video work fine, all is good, But I just wondering why it would do that and if anyone have experienced it, I just got both of these products so it is all new. thanks
  23. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZpj0vLtkAI   Panasonic Lumix GH3 with 45 - 200mm   Frame 300% Fast and 40% Slow, edited by Sony Vega 11   The wind at the airport is too strong and my camera is shake a bit.
  24. Considering the other things I also have to (want to?) buy for an upcoming video shoot, the 5D Mark III is a bit of a stretch. So, I'm thinking about the Canon 6d as the main camera on an upcoming shoot.   I have a separate audio set-up and don't do flash or studio flash photography, so those "issues" don't really concern me. The Mark III feels like I'm paying for a lot of AF and high-speed sports type features that I don't really need either.   Really, there are only 2 things that have me concerned: moire and resale.   The moire is really pretty bad with the 6d. But, wait, I watch the "test videos" and the moire is bad on things that really produce bad moire and I'm mostly shooting short clip interview type stuff (I can coach the clothing choices) and then having fun with some of the b-roll and scenic footage, so I would have a lot of control over what I was shooting and I doubt I'm going to just shoot roofs, brick walls and power cables. Not saying this stuff won't be an issue, but, I think I can avoid a lot of it, fix some of it in post or just trash the totally failed footage.   My other fear is resale. I can't lie, part of me was thinking, just buy two GH3 cameras (60p option, high bit-rate record, and generally pretty impressive video) but, the shoot is probably too soon for me to get the GH3 and get to know it and some lenses and I'm pretty familiar with Canon and I have some nice lenses like the 70-200 f2.8. I do have a fear that the 6d has a little bit of the DOA stigma attached to it, the video market may never warm to it and perhaps its resale market may not be quite as robust as a 5D Mark III or even the two GH3 cameras if indeed that camera gets a good rep with indi filmakers. Not a huge deal, but if I stretched for the Mark III, I feel like I could sell it pretty easily if I had to or wanted to go with the GH3 or even BMCC in the future.    For me the 6d would be a pretty solid step-up on the still side and I do take and enjoy taking stills, and a lot of the video I've seen is actually pretty decent as long as the YouTube clip is not titled something like "Check out this crap 6d moire footage!"   Oh and lastly, I assume that at some point, MagicLantern love with come the 6d's way? Does the 6d do the 160/320/640 ISOs out of the box? Also, the ability to use Clean HDMI out to an Atomos, dual card recording and of course this exciting RAW development means that I could get the 5D Mark III and not feel too put out.   I'm still not against getting two GH3 cameras and a few lenses. Again a money stretch, but, they have some pretty nifty video features. If I have to pull a few late nights figuring out how to use them, so be it.   Has anyone faced or made this choice?   Thanks.
  25. I'm sorry for my poor english, but I'll try to explain the best I can. I have noticed a weird problem with RAW timelapse on my GH3. I recently started using RAW images for timelapse because I can recover more detail from underexposed areas in post and get a wider dynamic range. Take a look at this video:   https://vimeo.com/66920197 You can see two timelapse tests that have been done with all manual settings (exposure, white balance, shutter speed and ISO). ISO levels are 125 for the first test and 200 for the outdoor timelapse. The clips marked with "A" are the RAW sequences straight from the camera, the ones marked with "B" have been modified in exposure with Camera RAW. As you can see, there is a noticeable color shift between some pictures: some of them tend to blue/green creating an ugly color flickering. This problem is evident in underexposed areas, especially after increasing exposure, whether I have sunlight or artificial light. I generally use a deflicker plugin for removing aperture flicker in a timelapse, but this solution can't work for color changes like this. This is another timelapse test made in a room with a few light to better demonstrate the issue: [attachment=521:noise color shift.jpg] Picture 1 : RAW files before increasing exposure.   Picture 2:  Exposure increased a bit for all the shots, apparently everything's fine. Picture 3 : Further exposure increase reveals a shot with a much different color. Picture 4 : The blue shot compared to the others.   If you want to replicate the issue: 1) Set all settings manually (WB,ISO,aperture, shutter speed). 2) Make a timelapse in a room with a few light in order to obtain very underexposed images. 3) Shoot at least 50/100 pictures. 4) Check the RAW files and increase exposure even if you can see noticeable banding. Can you see some pictures with an evident color shift in the sequence?   I have tried changing lens, but the problem has still happened. I tried many other software for editing raw files, but the color shift is still there. Sometimes the color shift can affects lot's of RAW photos, sometimes only a few why apparently no precise reason. I tried correcting manually the frames with shifted colors with no success. This is sad because the color flicker ruins the opportunity of using RAW for timelapse on the GH3.
