Hey all, I've been messing around with the demo for this program, and I must say, it's pretty impressive....As an absolute novice at grading, it can certainly get me the look I'm after without much fuss. Too bad they only have a plugin version for the PC. http://www.filmconvert.com/ The company said they've got hold of a GH2 and will be looking at doing a LUT for it... (can't recall where I read it) I'd love to see Andrew do a full-fledged review and put it though it's paces.... Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
2. Hello,   I have been experiencing a problem every so often with my relatively new GH2 in which I will see this strange red line going across the frame.  Please see the attached image for a visual reference (in this still the line is on the upper third of the image if you are having trouble finding it).   This line moves about and varies in width and position, depending on how the camera moves.  The problem seems to occur out of nowhere, although I haven't seen it enough times to say that for certain, and seems to also go away on it's own.  It hasn't wrecked any shots for me yet, but it's not good and I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem.   I had some work done on the camera recently and I'm wondering if in the process of this job the sensor may have been damaged in some way.  The camera is NOT hacked.    Thanks for your time.
3. http://vimeo.com/64229408   ...my niece, Kinley, is not quite 2.5yrs and my nephew Connor is 7 months.  They were pretty fascinated by the big(gish) lens when they saw it, their extensive experience being photographed so far being mostly camera phones.  Kinley got over it pretty quickly though and was able to ham it up with perfect abandon.     GH2 (patch: Flowmotion) Nikkor 24mm f/2 Century Optics anamorphic 5DtoRGB CS6: PPro + AE ColorGHear
4. Hi!   I´m planning on buying a new lens to my GH2. I was planning on buying the 25mm Vöigthlander 0.95 prime, but now I'm not sure anymore. When the BMPCC is released this summer I'm planing to upgrade.   So the question is (with the 3x crop factor on the BMPCC) should I buy another lens? I´m open for suggestions. Maybe some c-mount lenses instead?    Please i need your advise on this decision.
5. I finally picked up a transfer box from ebay to convert some old 8mm films I have acquired over the years. I used my GH2 and it seems to do a pretty good job. This was the first time I used this particular setup. I had shot a couple Super 8mm films in film school, and we transferred to digital much in the same way. The setup wasn't completely ideal, I did it in my kitchen during the day, so there was a fair amount of ambient light. And then my roommate's dogs started barking during one. There are some under/over exposed parts that I'd like to go back and reshoot to get more detail. These are the raw video files, only converted for uploading. Once I get the workflow set, I'll crop it. I still have another 5 or 6 to upload   http://vimeo.com/63873861   http://vimeo.com/63895169   http://vimeo.com/63987501   EDIT: Not sure why it's not embedding
6. I have been using a Hacked GH2 with Flow Motion 2 the preferred setting...I just got a GH3 and I need some guidance from those who know on how to set-up the two cameras to use in a Multi-Cam edit so that the picture quality, colour, look and feel are similar. Perhaps a different hack for the GH2 would be a better fit with the GH3, I don't know.   Any thoughts?   Creagle
7. Like to share this music video, one shot. Done with Sankor 16C, helios  and GH2. https://vimeo.com/37423237
8. Hi everyone    I´m a young video director from Madrid-spain, (www.MauriDGaliano.com)   I want to share with this great community my passion for  vintage Anamorphic Lenses.   I´ve been reading this forum a lot of times, but is the first time that i write something.   Allow me the honor to share my last Anamorphic video, a Drum cover for the Artist "Deivhook",the best Drummer in Spain.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13zPG1ebHlo     I shoot this video with my basic set: Panasonic GH2 Flowmotion v2.2 + fd50mm 1.8 + Bolex Anamorphot 16/32 1.5x.   The Bolex is the little girl of all my lenses...the "jewel of the crown",   The  rare 1.5x ratio suits perfect for almost everything, and its super-easy to make the double focus with it, in this video theres no flares, but this lens have the best flares  i´ve seen. Flare sooo easy, blue-deeply flares like Panavision C series. Mindblowing.   Now i have a clamp, from VidAtlantic, but im interested in upgrade to Redstan, i´ve seen that redstan have a custom Clamp for the little brother of my lens, the 8/19 1.5x, And im asking myself if he has one custom clamp for my lens.   Someone can give me the contact of Redstan?   I hope that you enjoy the video!   If someone have a question about the lens, ask me!   PD: I already knows that i suck writing in english, sorry!
9. As new. Really good anamorphic. Very sharp!   http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290849706147

Shoot With Me

http://vimeo.com/60513941   Shot for the Vimeo Weekend Challenge. Theme: Point of View   I rigged my good old Canon 5D (Mark 1...) and Panasonic GH2 on a Velbon SPT-1 lens support rig to be able to use both at the same time and to create a variety of POV shots.   Just before I left the door I slapped Driftwood's Moon Trail 5 hack on the GH2. This is my first try so far but the quality looks great I think.   I used a Sony 16GB UHS-1 96mb/s card but that wasn't reliable at all with the hack. Camera crashed after recording for 6 minutes, could save most of the file but lost some footage as well. Also playback didn't work properly. Switched to my 8GB SanDisk UHS-1 95mb/s, that seemed to work fine.   All the video was shot with the Panasonic GH2 and 14mm f/2.5 1080p25 HBR (around 60mbps) f/2.5 1/50s ISO 3200   The Canon 5D was armed with a 50mm f/1.4, settings vary.
11. With a little luck, Goat Man's Hill will be going into pre-production on our next feature in the next couple months.  In all likelihood I'm going to shoot most of it with "Moon Trial 3" and anamorphic.  A good deal of it will be available light and night in urban spaces.  The basis for my finishing pipeline will be After Effects, Film Convert and ColorGHear.     I've started roughing out various recipes for how the footage will flow through the pipeline, mainly dealing with NR and then the right balance of grain to put back in.  At some point I may investigate ColorGHear Pro's grain layers instead of this portion of Film Convert.   http://vimeo.com/60359953     This is a boring test video. If you don't like boring videos testing very specific settings, software combinations or techniques, keep moving.   That said, it does have a cat!   Seriously, there's a lot of excitement re: Driftwood's "Moon Trial 3", especially where 24P is concerned. After doing a snoop on ISO noise between 12500 - 160 I was blown away by how clean ISO640 is with this patch. I wanted to shoot a high contrast, available light scenario to not only play with NR but also different techniques and levels of simulated film grain (via Film Convert). The irony in this is not lost on me, hah-hah.   I output three versions of a pan + dolly. In all three scenarios I'm using Film Convert for my basic "emulsion pass" but with grain turned down to 0% (I knew I'd be applying it later). Each version also uses ColorGHear to give it a slight grade (switching off any cinegamma nodes because this function is provided by Film Convert).   All three versions use the "GHrain Killer" GHear to smooth out the chroma noise. Because this also filters out detail and sharpness in the luminance portion of the image I use the NR on a layer I just intend to use for its color. All three versions also use the technique I standardized on for SICK BOY to enhance small contrast and detail without the false edging you get very quickly with typical sharpening kernels and still rather quickly with the Unsharp Mask tool.   Lens Used: 35mm f/1.4 Nikkor + Century Precision Optics 1.33X Anamorphic   *1st Pass* ...I combine the "grainkilla" smoothed chroma with an original, unfiltered luma and 42% grain over the entire image.   *2nd Pass* ...I leave out the original luma, passing through the filtered luma and then depending on my LCE (local contrast enhancement) pass to re-establish an acceptable level of detail (still enhanced versus the original). The result is sharp edges and the ability to make out tiny textures like on the wall, the material on the chairs, etc. but also exceptionally smooth looking blacks even when I blow out the exposure to see "what's down in there". This version also has a uniform 42% grain applied to the whole frame.   *3rd Pass* ...in this one I do everything I did in the second pass but this time I create a luminance key with a "bell" shaped response that gives me all the mid tones while rolling off both shadow and highlight region and grain is applied through this key (this is based on an article I read interviewing the DP and colorist re: an episode of HOUSE that was shot all on the 5D where they discuss applying grain in this way). This allowed me to bump up the grain to 77% yet the net result doesn't feel as overall noisy as the previous two examples.   Oh, and 4' of dolly track just isn't enough.
12. Hi! The band I made this video for finally released it and I'm very happy, so I wanted to share it with you guys.   It was a lot of work and it's not without its flaws, but considering the crew (three people including me apart from the make-up artist) and the time we had it came out quite decent.   Please tell me what you think!   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhqTsAmPYYs   By the way, I shot it with the Driftwood Apocalypse Now! 6GOP Nebula patch, and the lenses I used were:   · Rokinon 28mm f2.8 · Minolta MD 50mm f1.7 · Minolta MD 135mm f2.8   If you have any questions just ask!
13. Hey guys,     wanted to share my shortfilm "Conversion".   I'm pretty young, so any help or suggestion is highly appreciated!! :)   hope you like it.   https://vimeo.com/58374026   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgEAx9Bfm68
14. Just for the hell of it, filmed myself running in the Texas countryside and put it to a Johnny Cash song.   http://vimeo.com/56426354
15. My newest song. I'll do a proper music video later on. Listen with headphones.   The camera somehow got in an interlaced mode for some of these clips, that or I had some hack settings wrong. I almost threw all these clips out, but I'm glad I didn't. I think it actually adds to the look and feel of the video in a strange way.    http://vimeo.com/58524262
16. I fell in love with this place after my first visit last year Shot on my wee GH2 https://vimeo.com/56885315
17. My newest song. Already up in the Screening Room, but I figured I'd share it here too as it was shot anamorphic.

19. Here's my first short film that I shot back in August. Enjoy (hopefully?). :P   In a world where zombies are the norm, The Humans Are Coming will take a peek into the home of the Williams family, a loving zombie family.  A typical day in the life of the family turns sour when an old friend pays a visit who is infected with the H-Virus.  One family member's secret will put everyone in danger and change the lives of the family forever.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Le2ay3esC4&hd=1   Equipment: - Panasonic GH2 - Voigtlander f/0.95 25mm and Panasonic 14-140mm   Funded by Kickstarter. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/466679651/the-humans-are-coming-short-film?ref=live
20. http://vimeo.com/57817375   (password: baller)   ...I put the password on it so that the seriously, seriously boring footage wouldn't be cluttering up my vimeo.  It's just that I was surprised that a stop this big worked at all with the Century Optics adapter.
21. Hello all I've got my hands on a GH2 and I was planning on shooting some footage of various LCD screens. This will be custom software in use at specific locations so I can't use Camtasia or similar. Whilst running some tests, I've noticed some severe banding on certain screens. All the screens so far have been 60hz. I've shot in PAL 25fps and NTSC 30fps at both 1/50 and 1/60 (and other shutter speeds) but I can't lose the banding. The frequency of the bands changes but no shutter speed loses it completely. All other settings are either neutral or off i.e. standard mode flat and no ExT, no Digital Zoom etc. The same screens shot on my point and shoot Lumix DMC-TZ10 show no banding at all. It seems strange that a budget camera doesn't show banding but the GH2 does regardless of the settings. I believe I understand the sync differences that cause the banding but don't understand why I can't get rid of it on the GH2. Example footage here: GH2 banding: DMC no banding: So my question is, does anyone have experience of successfully shooting LCD screens on a GH2 or other DSLR type camera? Am I expecting too much or perhaps doing something wrong - maybe there's something I haven't tried? Thanks for any advice. Gareth
22. https://vimeo.com/55892502   I posted this over in the screening room, but I wanted to show all the anamorphic guys and gals as well.    Lots of fun and really easy to make this one:)   Trey
23. Why can't I have HD in embedded videos... https://vimeo.com/57319379
24. i shot this last night. used the smc takumar m42 55mm/1.8 with a sankor compact anamorphic. all shot at pretty high iso's, mostly 12800, but some shots were at lower. there's 2k mjpeg, 1080p/24fps and 720p/60fps (@24 fps) all in there, i used driftwood's sedna b matrix/patch, because i grabbed my bag on the way to the pier; i would've preferred to use the canis majoris night patch and 2fps mjpeg, but oh well. no color correction/grading   https://vimeo.com/57121092
25. Just did some lens tests with the GH3 vs GH2 w/ Flow Motion v2.02 hack.  Information below:   GH2 vs GH3 Night Lens Test Panasonic GH2 w/ Flow Motion v2.02 Hack, Vivid -2,-2,-2,-2 Panasonic GH3, Vivid -3,-5,-4,-5 Lenses used: Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm F1.4 Canon FD 50mm F1.2L Canon FD 85mm F1.2L Canon EF 100mm Macro F2.8 Perspective is different even though I used them on the same tripod.  GH2 is 1.86x sensor crop, GH3 is 2x sensor crop.   In very dark situations the GH3 is noticeably brighter, about 2/3 of a stop.  I tried to compensate by making the GH2 1 stop ISO brighter.  But by doing so makes the GH2 have more noise and have "milky" blacks.  Color correction is very difficult with the GH2 even with the hack.  The GH3 does much better in this regard, although detail might be a little lower.   http://youtu.be/KM_6ZKCFuPs   http://youtu.be/6pwNZxfa1uM   http://youtu.be/_UK0Ck7jQbM
