  1. Hey guys, Just wanted to share with you a trailer for the short documentary I've been working on, about the amazing journey that our everyday object travel on in order to get to us. All the footage was shot in China this winter on my 5d mark III with Magic Lantern. I'd love to hear what you think, and if you are interested in supporting this project through it's next phase, (landscapes!) then please also check out the kickstarter below, I hope you enjoy the teaser! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1487414135/made-in-china
  2. So I run a small film company, Lightworks Films, and we have done a few reviews on the Canon 5d Mark III and the C100 (here is one of my reviews). I am really interested in purchasing a Sony a7s, and to my eyes (online) the camera looks better than the C100 - can anyone with both cameras comment? Or anyone who has used both? I am specifically referring to resolution - not 4k, but how well the a7s resolves 1080 compared to the c100 at 1080. Thanks for your thoughts!
  3. Hello everyone I'm wanting to film a short Sci-Fi film for one of my Uni projects and I'm wanting to use an Anamorphic lens to get a more cinematic feel. I'll be using Canon DSLR's, in particular, the 60D, 7D and maybe a 5D if I can get my hands on one. But until now, I've had no experience whatsoever with using, buying etc. an Anamorphic DSLR lens. I've been looking at what Vid-Atlantic with their Anamorph Filters, but from what I can gather, that doesn't give a true Anamorphic look to the film. Another issue I'm worried about is learning how to properly use an anamorphic lens as when I've watched various videos of people using them, there's vignetting and focussing issues. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on what I should do/buy? Thanks for all your help
  4. Hey guys, I'm a newbie but I promise this won't be my first and only post. I am an avid member of indietalk and figured I'd join the forum here to experience this side of the DSLR forum world. I shot this entirely on a 550D with a Tamron 10-22mm f/3.5 lens and a 40mm f/2.8 lens. This is my first production (written, directed, shot and edited), so I'd love some feedback about the image quality and story (and anything else that might be relevant). So without further adieu, here is: Solidarity vimeo.com/95930200
  5. So I made my first ever (fiction) short. I used a Canon T31/600D and a Tamron 17-50 2.8 Lens. Would love to know what ya'll think. Thanks
  6. Here's some vacation footage that I turned into a semi-narrative. My friend composed an original score.
  7. Hello Everyone! I'm selling a Canon 50mm 0.95 lens that recently came into my possession. The is a vintage lens and has a few minor signs of age, but in general is in excellent condition. It has very recently been cleaned, re-calibrated and refit with a 6 bit leica M mount by DAG camera, so the glass is in very, very good condition (only used for a few test shots since cleaning). Asking price is $3000 US (shipping included, will ship anywhere). Anyone interested please let me know! Pictures: http://postimg.org/gallery/8ox7gaoa/7e7472ed/ As for me, I am a long time EOSHD reader and GH2 user. You can find my youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/user/Dogen/videos I am also looking to sell a nearly mint Voigtlander 17.5mm 0.95 for micro four thirds. Asking price is $900 US--I apologize for not having any pictures at this point. Thanks for the interest and happy shooting!
  8. Hi, I am in photo and video since a few years and I had a lot of cameras : fuji XE1, XPRO1, canon 5D2, ... Since a few months I have nothing, and I watch the market which is changing a lot and want to invest in a system for a long time (lenses, accessories, ...) because I am tired to change everything each time. I am gonna give you what I shoot, and then my pros/cons for each and then you can tell me your point of view ? So I shoot 50% stills (Mostly landscapes and portraits). Exemples of shots : http://500px.com/loup_f What I basically need as lense is a or 16-35 (full frame) for landscapes and a 85mm for portrait for exemple. And 50% videos. My videos are only travel videos. When I go somewhere, I shoot and make a video of the trip. For exemple, my last trip in California : As you can see, I do a lot of timelapses (with the same lens as the landscape stills one) and basic shoot of people and streets (for exemple the 16-35 at 35mm would be fine, or with a 50mm). I also do paragliging and sports, so here it's a bit special. I use the gopro but wouldn't mind using the body in the air (lens with IS necessary here). Also, I like to spend time on edit. So I like the RAW possibilites. Now about the cameras: I just purchased a 5D mark III used. I made a good deal (200eur under normal used price) and I have it with the 24-70 that I don't like (not wide enough, not long enough, not fast enough (2.8) so I prefer primes^^). If I invest for the 5DIII I am going to buy : a sturdy carbon tripod, a glidecam, the new 16-35mm f4 IS just released (for landscapes and video), and a cheap 85mm 1.8 for portraits, ND filters, canon flash and so on. So as you see I don't want to buy all of this and then have to sell everything in 6 months because A7S is much better ... My dilema is : Should I keep 5DIII invest in what I said or just use it with the 24-70 2 months and then sell it and go for A7S ? My pros and cons : 5DIII pros: -RAW for video : big pro for me -Cheap lenses used (yes not the new 16-35 which will be 1199 like the sony one) but for exemple 270 for the 85mm. -pro body, resistant, nice to handle -price and value: got it for 1800 used / A7S is gonna be 2500 because no available used. Not a new body so value is going down slowly now. 5DIII cons: Big and heavy for travel No cool slowmotion (FHD 60fps and 120 fps like A7S, I use a lot slowmo) Dynamic range A7S pros: size - wheight : big pro for me slow motion : big pro for me DR for landscapes : way better than 5D here A7S cons: New body so pay full price and value is going down quickly No Raw video Lenses price : they are new only, the 85mm will be like 1500usd ... So a bit shitty. Conclusion For photo they are both fine (slight edge for A7S with DR for landscapes and timelapses) For video 5DIII has raw advantage and A7S has slowmo ( I don't use external 4K) A7S has size advantage and 5DIII has price advantage (due to the fact I got it used, and lens used as well) For future, for the moment I trust more in investing canon system (for exemple when 5D4 is out I get it and keep the rest) as Sony is changing system all the time like crazy. But I might be wrong. Sometimes I tell myself I should just get the sony RX100 III (slow mo, 24-70 5 axis IS, ...) such a convenient camera. But I am affraid it is only a "compromise" and will be frustrated by results (lack of bokeh, dynamic range for timelapses, no ultra wide angle...) So according to my conclusion and use what do you think ? Thanks for reading
  9. Hi guys. So let's say in theory if Metabones brought out a EF lens mount specifically for the GH4 with electronics, which I'm about to buy), and we lived in this universe.... I'm going to make the move from TV documentary editing/shooting into directing short films, more commercials, more music videos/ and a step up to a documentary DV director. That sort of thing. I'm planning on getting the GH4, with a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 as my first lens, as it is by all accounts a very high quality lens and would fit me perfectly for most situations. So... do I buy the GH4 with a speed booster with a nikon mount, and a nikon mount Sigma? Or do I wait for a possible soon to be released metabones speedbooster for the GH4, EF mount with electronics etc and a canon mount Sigma? I'd like your (much more knowledgable about DSLR's) guys opinions?! If I got the GH4, with a speed booster, which glass is the wise to invest in? I don't have a lot of money to spend on lenses in the near future, so I'd rather cheap quality glass in general. Canon/Nikon mounts? Which one in general is cheaper for a high level of quality? Which is just the best in general for someone like me? Who wants to start shooting low budget short films and features? Also what's the actual benefit of a EF mount with proper electronics? Does it just mean that I could use the autofocus feature on the GH4 with the Canon lenses? Any other benefits? Would it mean that lenses with image stabilisation would work on the canon lenses while on the GH4, and an imaginary speed booster which would allow such a thing?
  10. I just secured an Iscorama 36 and I want to be able to mount it to rails so I can swap cameras and lenses easily, as well as use a follow focus. I have a vid-atlantic adapter to mount on the back that makes it a 52mm rear thread. But I don't want to screw it onto taking lenses. I'd rather just mount it on rails, makes everything easier. I was thinking of using lens collars like I do with 2x adapters, but the 52mm barrel size is quite small and I'd have to make a spacer of some kind. Any ideas are very welcome thank you!

  14. Greetings, I've run into an issue with remotely controlling the video on a Canon DSLR (5D2 and 7D) while maintaining EOS Utility. I need 150+ft range and USB drops off after ~30ft. I've tried USB to ethernet adapters since I was told ethernet doesn't drop off, but that hasn't worked yet - I was later told you would beed a network router for this to work? Does anyone know of a solution for wired control of a Canon DSLR so that the control through EOS utility is still functional. I have solutions for wirelessly triggering video with a pocketwizard setup, but I lose two very critical things; exposure control control and media download. The concept is to have a camera rigged in a location where repeated visits isn't an option - so exposure control and media download are key. I've read that the Canon wireless transmitters will also maintain the functionality of the EOS Utility - does anyone have experience with that? What do folks with these RC helicopters do for remote control of video? Probably a much bigger budget than I have... Thanks in advance for suggestions and advice. -Ronan
  15. very good riding and good filming and editing. check it out!
  16. Hello folks, here is my latest slide-show work, showing dancers of 13th PLESOKAZ - international dance festival, annually maintained in Pozega / Croatia. I used aprox. 900 pictures (post production killed me ) in order to show power of Canon 1Dx. Thank you all for watching

  18. I was hoping someone on this forum might be able to let me know what I have come across here. I have acquired what appear to be some pretty neat Canon Cinema lenses. I have been unable to find any information about them online. I was wondering whether they are of any use or value. The models are as follows: Canon J15X8.5B T1.8 Zoom Canon J5X19.5B T1.6 Macro Zoom They seem to be outfitted with PL mounts and are fully manual aside from the removable servo zoom box. These are HUGE and quite heavy. Any input would be fantastic. Thank you! I would attach some photos but I am limited as a new user on the forum. I also opened a thread on dvxuser if you want to check out what they look like. Much thanks! Cheers.

    A7S the Killer

I, like everyone else saw the Sony A7S videos, and was completely blown away. While it is superb strategy for Sony to COMPLETELY handicap the camera, despite its insane potential. I believe Sony will introduce this sensor in its 'F' range as well as 'FS' range of cameras, which will see its full potential. While the GH4 sensor is nowhere in the league of the A7S's, Panasonic has not purposely handicap its potential to 1/10th, to make way for its professional range, which is both respectable, as well as sensible. Right now, the A7S is something that could have killed the entire 'C' range of Canon (C100, C300 and C500), as well as many other cameras which use the small form factor. I am quite unsure of why this ridiculously unfriendly anti-workflow monster has been created. I think Sony needs to seriously re-consider undoing the handicaps.
  20. I am using canon 60D.but i am getting noise in daylight i am pretty much worried because my fellows shoot great videos with it and mine is giving this noise in daylight.i am usin 75-300 canon ,18-55 canon. and 50mm canon but noise is more in 50mm and 18-55 ,75-300 gives less of it.i shot samples while using 3 of these lenses and i found that when i screw in the cpl filter noise gets worst.please help me. settings are 200iso,fstop 5,and shutter double to that of frame rate
  21. Finally finished my short film project "Separate Flow". Waiting for the right anamorphic and I think the SLR Magic Anamorphot was it. Very practical to use on location, it worked really well for this project. Debated long and hard on using either the GH3 or 5DmkIII RAW. In the end I went with shooting RAW even though I had a lot of problems, including the camera shutting down at one point. But it's the flexibility of RAW in post that won out in the end. In the future I will use AF with the GH3/4 since it's more usable, especially when using a steadicam.
  22. Hi everyone! This is a pretty old Canon FD lens that has been living in a loft for a while. Could you please have a look at the linked image and videos to see if you think these 'marks' are scratches or if it's actual lens fungus. The marks don't look particularly web-like. 23. Greetings friends, Several months back I purchased a Canon 5d Mark III for video and photography. I was debating between that and the GH3 and had chosen it for fear that the GH3 would give me too much of a "soccer mom video" feel to my videos. Since ML I have loved what everyone has been producing with it but have yet to dive in myself since I'm pretty much an amateur enthusiast, though I am willing to learn if it is not obnoxiously time intensive. With the announcement of the GH4 with 4K video I was contemplating selling my 5D and taking the cash to purchase a new GH4 assuming the video surpasses the GH3 and is close to 5D raw. My internal thoughts are as follows for pro/con: 5D raw pro: 1. full-frame 2. raw quality 3. lowlight capabilities 5D raw con: 1. extensive workflow that demands intensive computing and time 2. Komputerbay errors when recording with fear of missing content GH4 pro (unknown obviously to full extent): 1. simple workflow for high quality 4K 2. high quality video without massive need for space like raw (assumption) GH4 con (unkown obviously to full extent): 1. lowlight capabilities still show artifacts and noise like GH3 What are your thoughts? The BMPCC would be a great option too but the fact that it doesn't take pictures make it less desirable to someone who would like to create great videos and take excellent stills. I am looking to finance an iMac 27" and research the best configuration and an affordable external storage workflow to correspond with either the ML Raw if I keep my 5D or the replacement camera (GH4 etc) Any and all comments/observations/advice is greatly appreciated in advance!!
  24. Hi everyone, I just wanted to share with you a quick ISO test I did yesterday with a 5d2, a gx7 and the kind owner of the gx7 :). Knowing the gh4 sensor will be similar to the gx7 one I think what follows is promising Before you ask I don't know why there is so much difference in the exposure: maybe different lens transmission or different factory sensitivity calibration. Viewing this test in the monitor surprised me so much I wanted to reshot everything, convinced that I had done something wrong. Please download the original file, I leave you to the judgement https://vimeo.com/90203597
  25. Hi I'm a completely new to the dslr video world but I'd like to get started. Checking out the reviews online and what fits what I'm willing to spend I think I narrowed it down to the Canon 70D or the Nikon D5300 I just plan on getting a body and then purchasing a sigma 18-35mm 1.8f lens and a good shotgun mic. I've been waffling back and forth as to which one to get. The 70D is a better all-around camera and a class above the D5300 in it's , touch screen UI, better build quality, weather resistant, quieter, autofocus that's actually somewhat usable, good low-light performance, better live view simulation and controls, better features for still photography. The D5300 however has some nice advantages as far as video goes, slightly better low light performance, virtually no moire, better dynamic range, headphone jack to monitor audio, and ability to output uncompressed HDMI, and from videos I've seen the image quality does look slightly better especially when filming people the D5300 shows the subjects skin texture & pores a lot clearer compared to 70D where it's a bit blurred How in the world do I choose? I would love to eventually get a Blackmagic 4k camera down the road if I can get good enough to make some money with this, not sure if that would have a bearing on what camera and lenses to get now. Thanks for any input.
