My cameras and kit

1. Hello everybody I'm selling my hardly used AGC disable cable form dslrcable.com I'm in europe, buyer pays the price. Feel free to make me an offer, as I know it hasnt got much value but still maybe someone needs one instead of it laying around my house. Thanks
2. https://vimeo.com/18743558   After completing a few fesitvals, we've made this short film public now. It was shot a couple of years ago all on 550D. That was before I used Magic Lantern, mosaic filter, knew half of what I do now!    We're still pretty happy with it now, though we're also confident of doing better on the next one.   It was also way before Black Mirror ;)
3. Hello fellow lens gurus, I've been looking to buy some kind of start lens, to what will hopefully soon be my anamorphic lens collection. I tired to buy a set of oct-19 lomos over the summer but was endlessly outbid. I'm a canon 5dmk3 and canon l series glass owner, and have wanted to adapt or better yet, actually own anamorphic primes that work on a full frame sensor without dual focusing or piggybacking lens together. I found this on eBay today but don't know much about this lens other than its a later isco and is multi coated. The nice thing seems to be that it already is equipt with and canon lens mount, but I'm not sure if this 50mm lens will cover the full frame sensor on the 5d3. http://www.ebay.com/itm/130864721991?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Take a look and let me know your thoughts before I consider plopping down 2gs. Thanks for your help as always guys!!
4. Hi,    I've just finished my 1Dc review, if you're interested, read it here: http://carousel.hu/1Dc/   Also there are some files you can download and grade.   thanks
5. Hi, just wanted to start a topic about using 3rd party lenses with the Metabones Speed Booster.  Their website warns about the possibility of some lenses having protruding rear elements that could scratch the adapter or short out the electrical connections.   I don't yet own any EF lenses, so I'm currently using a Rainbow Imaging Nikon to EF adapter.  The lenses I've tried with this are:   - 50mm f/1.8 pancake (all manual)   - 24mm f/2 AIS (all manual)   Camera is a Sony NEX-5n.   After my first day of trials, this combo works fine.  My caveats so far:   - The Nikon adapter tends to stick to the lens, requiring a manual depress of the delicate release lever in order to unscrew it from the lens.  So I'm just buying another Rainbow Imaging adapter and plan on leaving it on the lens all the time.   - The lens focuses a bit past infinity.   Other than that, I'm really enjoying the Speed Booster and see no image degradation.  Will be posting sample videos soon.   Anyone else tried other lenses?
6. I shot my videos using a T3i and I'm editing my clips using Magic Bullet Looks. I have a waterfall cip and I would like to reverse the flow of water so that it appears to be flowing backwards, then foward in a type of loop. Its a moving shoot (camera tilts downwards) so I'm thinking that I need to isolate the water in order for this effect to happen? Can anyone advise me on how to go about doing this?
7. https://vimeo.com/58725919   Got our set of CP2 ... hope you like the video ....
8. Hey there! Just finished up a short film for a local "make a film in a week" competition, and thought I'd share it. It won Best Director, was nominated for Best Drama, and was shot entirely on the Canon 5D MKIII with Zeiss ZF.2 glass. Let me know what you think! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XB5EBZa1qeU
9. Well after working with the new Canon 5D Mark iii a few times this weekend I have to say for me, its a hell of a lot better hands down then any other Canon DSLR, except for the 1DX because I have not had the time with that camera to really tell. I have to wonder though about the HDMI out update that is coming. I'm now looking at buying a 5D3 soon but would like to know what you guys think this upgrade will bring. One other thing is why is in April, could we see maybe the new 7D with the same function at the same time. Will we see 60p added? Will the HDMI add more detail, I know most of you will say no but maybe Canon will add some code that will allow more detail in clean recording off the HDMI.  So if any of you care to read this is what I think of the 5D Mark 3. Im an action sports photographer and also now starting digital cinema work. I own just Canon DSLR and GoPros but I have buddy's who own other cameras and I have used them. They include the RED Scarlet and Epic, Sony FS700, Nikion D800, Canon C300, and Canon 1DX. Let me state this also off the bat, I don't believe we need 4K right now but it is coming and will be the main thing in 5 years time. Canon is going to have to step it up if they want to fight with other cameras. So first is the big fact that I was worried about, Detail. Well we all know it lacks in detail but can be sharpened up in Post to look cleaner, the clips I shot I did this on and it works great. Also I shot 1080 30p and 720 60p both in ALL-I Codec. On my 17 inch laptop the clips look fine and most people loved em. When then sharpened and put on a 65 inch LCD. I thought wow. That looks clean when sitting about 7 feet away. So really this isnt a problem to me. The RED and Sony FS700 are better no doubt but really not huge to me ( of course 4K is nuts on the RED) Also for the people out there that are comparing this to a T2i and saying its the same in good light, well kinda but once you go into post and sharpen it and color and finish. The 5D for me kills the 7D and t2i. Next would be the Camera it self, Its built like a tank in my mind. I have no problem putting it in the dirt and shooting motocross or Off Road Racing. Its feels great in the hand when shooting photos which I wont go into detail but the photos are amazing and has huge upgrades, this is the main reason for me to buy it. The focus and ISO is just wow. When shooting this weekend we had an LCD viewfinder and a 5 inch HD Screen on a DSLR Cage. Both are good but depends on you and what you are doing. The HDMI out at the current stage helps alot with focusing. For me I loved the Camera in a Cage with Screen on top that you can move around. We even said if the HDMI out is great we can get a Black Magic Shuttle and just mount it on the Cage in this set-up and then run the HDMI out to the screen and still have a small set-up for moving around.  So one other thing I want to say is that everyone is saying why get a 5D when you can get a Black Magic Cinema Camera. I'm not saying anything bad but for me the 5D is better, also I see alot of people saying its great for 3 grand, too bad its just like a RED at 3 grand. In order to get one really going it will take 6 to 8 grand in my mind to make one work. I've also seen the footage and yes while its RAW and amazing to some. I dont have time to edit RAW for every project we do and I don't have the storage for the Uncompressed. Now if Black Magic can buy Cineform or make a compressed RAW , add 60p , and fix the firmware with what much of Philip Bloom said, then I can see my self getting one.  So all in all, I love the new 5D. Its light powerful and a great film making tool when you need to run around and carry all your stuff in a back pack or travel light. The images after grading are great. Here are the full settings we used most of the time so you can get a idea. 1080 or 720 ALL-I, all 720 was upscaled to 1080p CineStyle Pic Style Our shutter was faster then most at about 1/200 or around there.  Iso was about 100 160 most of the time for film.  If you have any questions just let me know. If you disagree I would love to hear why just to get a different view on a subject.
10. https://vimeo.com/55892502   I posted this over in the screening room, but I wanted to show all the anamorphic guys and gals as well.    Lots of fun and really easy to make this one:)   Trey
11. Just did some lens tests with the GH3 vs GH2 w/ Flow Motion v2.02 hack.  Information below:   GH2 vs GH3 Night Lens Test Panasonic GH2 w/ Flow Motion v2.02 Hack, Vivid -2,-2,-2,-2 Panasonic GH3, Vivid -3,-5,-4,-5 Lenses used: Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm F1.4 Canon FD 50mm F1.2L Canon FD 85mm F1.2L Canon EF 100mm Macro F2.8 Perspective is different even though I used them on the same tripod.  GH2 is 1.86x sensor crop, GH3 is 2x sensor crop.   In very dark situations the GH3 is noticeably brighter, about 2/3 of a stop.  I tried to compensate by making the GH2 1 stop ISO brighter.  But by doing so makes the GH2 have more noise and have "milky" blacks.  Color correction is very difficult with the GH2 even with the hack.  The GH3 does much better in this regard, although detail might be a little lower.   http://youtu.be/KM_6ZKCFuPs   http://youtu.be/6pwNZxfa1uM   http://youtu.be/_UK0Ck7jQbM
12. On top of my low light high ISO tests I also tested my Sankor Anamorphic 2x lens.  One thing I really learned is that anamorphics need to be focused at a specific distance to get the desired effect.  Of course I only realize this after I do this, so I'll try and do another test later.  Focus is very difficult, next time I'll bring an external monitor.  The 100mm Macro surprisingly was the most difficult to focus.  I think it has a much shallower depth of field than either of the FD 1.2L lenses.   http://youtu.be/U5Oh-IBFZyY   http://youtu.be/eL0HesvFrPc   http://youtu.be/zEk-7OEkVAU   http://youtu.be/ZaRwD_L0n-g   Out of all these tests it's clear that there are limitations with both cameras.  Here are some notes:   - EX TELE mode is much improved on the GH3.  There is more detail and less noise, although it is still very noisy.  Not sure I can call it "grain" but if you really need to use it you can.  But I would still go with a prime over EX TELE mode, even if it is a great lens like the Leica 25mm.  GH2 clearly is bad in EX TELE mode, worse in very low light - Detail is excellent for both cameras.  I still think the GH2 has more but only by a little.  Again focusing is critical. - GH3 clearly has more dynamic range and retains more details especially in the shadows.  The last video you can see more tiles in the shadows at the left of the image. - GH3 can shoot more flat and retain more color detail too.  The last video I upped the saturation to 150% to match the GH2.  You can't go far at all with the GH2, it is so baked into the codec. - GH3 is 2/3 of a stop brighter at high ISOs.  However the codec isn't great for low light.  I think the 50Mbits IPB is better than the 72Mbits All-I for low light.  Just the noise grain is better and easier to remove.  In bright conditions they are about the same.   I prefer the GH3 over the GH2 for usability and for the image.  I'll still use my GH2s because they are still very stellar cameras.  But I think there are many improvements in the GH3 that overall make it a better camera.

14. My question is about mixing footage specifically from Sony to Panasonic (or secondly Canon) cameras. In my experience each company has a color profile, and within a brand cameras tend to match decently out of the box.   I am a Sony owner of an NX5U video camera and have had experience mixing footage with Canon videocameras and DSLRs.  The colors do not match perfectly,  but for my wedding clients it is passable.    Does anyone have knowledge of how well pana + sony might mix? I'm wondering specifically how well the Sony NX5U might match with a panasoinc GH2/3 (used as a b-cam)?   I'm considering purchasing either a Sony NEX series (NEX 6) or a GH2/3.  But I don't want to have to color correct all my footage to match with my workhorse NX5U.   Thanks, .David
15. Hey Guys, I know a lot of talk has gone to the bigger cameras like the Canon C series, but for those working with the DSLRs still, here's a new tool we've been helping Technicolor polish that was originally previewed at NAB. https://www.technicolorcinestyle.com/ We did extensive testing with the software on a couple of our videos, and those videos are the first ones to be posted as examples on their gallery (both the Dance Party and wedding demo)! https://www.technico...yler-community/ Check out our blog post at: http://www.onyxcinem...on-technicolor/ The use of the software follows a different paradigm from other coloring plugins that has its roots in the higher end productions. I believe that any camera that can shoot with a similar logarithmic curve can apply this tool. Such as the GoPro with protune and the Canon C series. A blog video detailing the use of the picture style and software together in practical usage is coming soon!

I have films both opening and closing the shorts programme here tomorrow in Brick Lane, London, which is a great honor. At 5pm my short film Ceramic (two films set to music, all shot using FS700 slow motion) is showing, then to close the night my short with Thom Haig, SoMe https://vimeo.com/21926626 will be playing. http://www.zerofilmfest.com/london It'll be a great chance to meet film makers, see some awesome work and drink mescal Hopefully see some of you there! 17. Andrew's guide is absolutely fantastic. I got my hands on this huge Kollmorgen-Kosaka 298 before I bought the EOSHD Anamorphic guide, and I had to frankenstein a way to make it work; this is what i ended up with, and it works decent. The front of the M42 Yashica Yashinon / Vivitar lens matches within 1-2 mm the back diameter of the Kollmorgen anamorphic lens, so I can use full zoom range with no corner artifacts. 18. Hi all, i just came back from a trip in Japan and made this short clip about Tokyo, it was my first use of timelapse in a video and i tried to make the most of it when possible. http://vimeo.com/51719933 Hope you like it and thanks for watching !
19. I'm looking into purchasing a set of lomo primes in oct-18 mount. I noticed that to directly mount the lens to a canon camera you have to buy either a oct-18 to oct-19 adaptor, and then an oct-19 to EF. They also make oct-18 to pl, and then pl to EF. Anyways, with either of these adaptor setups, I noticed that the oct-18 versions of the lomo anamorphic primes rear lens barrel rotates when focusing. Does anyone have any insight or experience using or converting oct-18 lomo anamorphic primes to any kind of canon EF setup???? And if so how does the focus work, or ways around it??? Any help is greatly appreciated!!
20. http://blogs.zeiss.com/photo/en/?p=2860 For those with money to burn (or the rental houses), new high-end Zeiss primes for Canon and Nikon. These resemble the Hasselblad medium-format lenses in size and construction. Pretty spectacular things!
21. Yes I'm a lens geek: http://photorumors.com/2012/09/14/samyang-10mm-12-8-ed-as-umc-cs-lens/#more-31872 If it beats the Tokina 11-16 for IQ or price significantly it's interesting... otherwise... But you may find it interesting as an option for BMD camera...
