  1. Hey Guys! Me and a few colleagues participated in a short film competition here in Germany called "99Fire Films Award". Here is our film: http://www.myvideo.de/Aktion/99fire-films-2014?videoId=9456776 We had 99 hours to produce a film with a length of 99 seconds about a given topic ("Life writes the most moving stories") It would be nice if you vote for us, if you like it! (It's possible to vote 9 times) Feel free to comment/criticize! Thanks! _________________________________________________________________________________________ - shot on BMPCC + Speedbooster(BMPCC edition) + Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 - edited in FCP7 / Adobe Audition - graded in Adobe After Effects
  2. Hey everybody, I put together a Christmas lights compilation video set to the theme song of Pan's Labyrinth. The entire video was shot on the Black Magic Pocket Camera along with a 10mm 1.6 Kern Switar and a 75mm 1.8 Olympus. I hope you all like it:) Trey
  3. Good evening guys, I'm searching for a very fast or the fastest lens for the BMPCC. Then fastest I can think of is the Nikon AI 50mm / 55mm f/1.2 in combination with the BMPCC-Speedboster. Do you have another (better) advice? BTW: It's mostly for concert and nighttime shooting and perhaps to get a nice DOP. Thanks a lot! Moe
  4. Hey Guys. I'm absolutely new in anamorphic shooting and I'm just getting a BMPCC (Which means it will be present in about 5 months or so :D) I'm thinking about getting a bit into anamorphic shooting. I like the "look" of it very much, because it simply creates a whole different feeling than a "normal" 16*9 image. So I have a few questions: How should/can I start shooting anamorphic with the BMPCC? What lens / adapter+lens can be used with the Pocket? It should not be too expensive as I'm just beginning and want to get a bit in touch with it. What do I have to think of in terms of workflow? -> During Production and of course especially in Postproduction? I hope these questions do not sound to stupid or naive :D Greetings from germany.
  5. UPDATE FOR SALE HERE, end on this monday the 16th of december 2013 :   http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=111235510675&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649         UPDATE : PRICE DOWN, but NO MORE ! ;)   Cine-NIKKOR 10mm f1.8   For sale !!!    http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=111235510675&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649     You can't miss this opportunity, this is a very good lens for your Blackmagic camera or your Blackmagic pocket camera ! You will have a fast and wide lens !!! This 10mm is a 24mm on BMPCC eq. in FF format !!! And it won't vignetting !!! (see picture number 2) You can also use it on M43 systems (GH1,GH2,GH3,OMD) but you will have vignette, or you can use it in ETC mode to avoid it. There is a filter thread (maybe 40.5mm) so you can use filters on it (like ND variable filter). Weight is 145gr. All metal made.   Here is a test done with it on GH2. You can notice that the minimum focus distance is very short (30cm)   https://vimeo.com/19586547   the lens is in good condition due to its age. Some trace of use on the barrel (7/10), few dust, no oil on the blades, few fungus, damaged coating. The glass is 5/10 (see last picture), but apparently it's not affecting the final image. Aperture rings and focus are very smooth (10/10). Sorry there is no front and rear caps. You will need an adapter from C-mount to your system to use it (not included) -no need to modify the rear barrel, and of course it is focusing up to the infinity.
  6. Hi everyone, at first sorry if I may sound a bit confusing, english is not my first language, I'm no expert on cameras. Also sorry for making this post too long.   My father recently bought a new camera and gave me his Canon 7D and a Canon 24-105 Lens. I know the 7d is a nice camera for video specially with Magic Lantern, but I was thinking about selling the 7D and get the Blackmagic Cinema Camera.    I think is REALLY important mentioning that I would be selling the 7d here in where I live, and buying the BMCC on US, also the 7D here is worth the same as the BMCC in US so it would be like getting a BMCC "for free".   I know the BMCC has some issues like not being able to delete videos from the camera, see how much space i have left on the ssd, no audio meter.. but I think this will eventually be fixed on a future update.    At first I was considering the EF version so I could use my 24-105 lens without any kind of adaptor, but i read that the crop factor would be an issue on the EF version.    From what I read if I get the MFT version and use a speed booster, I could get the same crop factor as an APS-C sensor, which would be similar to the 7D. Is it possible to use the MFT speed boster and a EF to MFT adaptor so I can use my canon lens on the BMCC MFT while the Metabones EF to MFT speed boster does not come out ?   And also, is it a smart choice to get the BMCC instead of the 7d ?   Once again sorry if I said something wrong, and also for making this long post, but I think is important to make everything claer so I don't regrat my choice later on.   Thank you!
  7. Hello Guys! I have good news! My BMPCC as arrived :)   I just received my firts C-mount for it:   The "Rodriguez" Lens (El Marichi): Kinoptik Tegea 5.7mm T2 (f/1.8)               First test (read the description on vimeo): http://vimeo.com/77128640     Best, JDS
  8. Hello guys, introducing myself with a short shot of the BMC Pocket, just using the 14.140mm Lumix zoom (hard used and few scratched) and a polarizer filter. Ungraded/Graded shots.  Resut was pretty pleasant, despite of few few time to make it. Questions and comments wellcomed, I am not DOP but director/writer, but well, always learning (camera and better english :-)   https://vimeo.com/76969600   Cheers, JF Calero.

  10. Hello, everyone. Perhaps this may seem like a silly question, but I could not find the answer anywhere! After we record in RAW on the Blackmagic, can we playback the clips on the camera lcd? It seems like a no brainer, but I have never held one and was a bit preoccupied because of the playback troubles on the 5D3 ML RAW.
  11. Last week we bought the BMCC MFT stepping up from compressed DSLR dslr filmmaking to the delightfulness of shooting raw. While doing some bmcc research i came across the comparison test 'Some Like It RAW' by Ryan E. Walters. He basically compared the Arri Alexa, BMCC and Red Epic in three short tests: IR filtration, Low-light and overexposure. I found the results quite useful and certainly contributed crossing the threshold and purchasing the bmcc.   Without giving away the results, I asked myself how you guys think about the bmcc image sharpness. Many filmmakers/DP's seem to find the bmcc image a tad too sharp. Personally, i love the out-of-the camera sharpness and prefer to sharpen it slighty myself to give it that 'punchy' image (though not too sharp).   Here are the videos:   http://vimeo.com/60008926   http://vimeo.com/60271810   http://vimeo.com/60870866                                       .
  12. Hi.    I am looking for advice on a project. As I have limited green screen expereince, I want to make sure i get it right. I'm much more an 'on-location' kind of guy!   I've just been assigned a music video project using green screen and the Blackmagic Pocket Camera. Its a mickey take on Japanese infomercials.   The screen is painted 18FT wide, and we will be shooting around 8FT before the wall.   I have in my ownership 3 Dedolights and 2 Kino Flo Divas 401s. I know I will require more lights to light the screen (as my owned lights will be mostly lighting the actors), and I was thinking of mounting some Kino Flo 4 banks on C-stands high. The studio location has no lighting grid at the top.    The Pocket will always be on a tripod, filming wides, mids and close-ups of the products/adverts the Japanese people are 'selling.' Got the Panny 12-35mm and 35-100mm, the SLR Magic 12mm and loads of Canon FDs.   Does anybody want to give me any advice about this and the use of the Pocket camera? It would be much appreciated. I'm certain I'm doing everything right, just want to make sure I have everything in tow.    Thanks.
  13. This is a little 2 minutes short film we shot with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. It is our first major field test of the camera and we weren't disapointed at all. We shot with a Canon 50mm 1.8 & SLR Magic 25mm 0.95. Coming from a DSLR background, I was really surprised how well he dynamic range really held up. We shot ProRes for everything except the opening and closing shots which we shot RAW. We used one bounce card but the rest was available light.    It's titled: "Le Rire". As you can probably tell by the heavy-handed french music, we were aiming for the feel of a pixar-esque short. Hope you enjoy!    http://youtu.be/icVmrZWD77A   As far as post production goes I edited in Premiere and mixed audio in Audition. Color correction/grade with Colorista II. A light pass of film grain was added via an "editwithlight" filmscan overlay thingy.     Thoughts? We love feedback!    Thanks, Luke Starring: Madeline Pickens & Jared Locke Written, Directed and Edited: Luke Covert Director of Photography: Myles  Extras: Michael Good Production Assistant: Allie Amstutz Le Rire is french for "Laughter"
  14. Hello~   I was getting scared off by all the white orb issues with the upcoming pocket cam, so I went ahead and decided to buy the BMCC 2.5k cam in MFT mount.  I went home to do some tests and discovered that I was getting the very same white orbs effects that people had been reporting with the pocket cam.  I figured it was a fluke, but I exchanged mine for a new one today only to find that the second one was having the same problem as well.  I haven't heard any other BMCC MFT owners complain about this, but I wanted to reach out to see if anyone else was having the issue.  I've attatched some screen shots of footage I shot with both cameras, so you can see the issue.  All footage was shot in Pro res, 200 ASA, with the SLR Magic 25mm .95 hyperprime.     Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.  Andrew, I know you own this lens and the BMCC MFT, have you ever had issues with this combo before?   Thanks.    ~Tom   [attachment=651:orbs6.jpg][attachment=652:orbs5.jpg][attachment=653:orbs2.jpg][attachment=654:orbs1.jpg][attachment=655:orb3.jpg]
  15. With this recent price drop in BMCC, buying a 2.5K camera seems relevant again. Especially since it has one extra stop of dynamic range over the 4K version, and with the metabones speedbooster it actually has similar form factor regarding the DOF. And It could be a great B cam once you decide to get a 4K version (or if finances are low, get a pocket version as a B cam for 2.5K) Now my question is, would I need to buy a metoabones speedbooster for each of my lens types as I have contax yashica, Leica, Nikon, EF, etc... (which would be extremely expensive), or could I only get the EF to MFT version (once it comes out) and use the C/Y, Leica, etc... to EF adapter? Thanks a lot for your responses.
  16. Hi all - for those who want to see the new Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4y0qPHVYkwU If you have any questions about the lens/camera/settings, etc. feel free to let me know. Thanks, -Aaron
  17. Does anyone know if it's possible to create a good "recipe" for converting BMCC raw video to something similar to what the BMCC camera would create when it outputs Film Log ProRes - preferably using Adobe Camera Raw and After Effects? (I'll be using Resolve at some point, but I'm waiting for the new MacPro's to upgrade, and my 2012 Pre-Retina MacBook Pro can't handle Resolve).   To be more clear: I'd like to shoot RAW, but immediately batch convert to something that closely resembles what I would get if I had shot ProRes422 Film Log.     Is there such a recipe?  Or does the BMCC apply something more like a changeable algorithm to create it's ProRes Log?   So... what kind of curve, saturation, highlight control, shadow control, sharpening, noise reduction, etc... would you be best to use if you were willing to do a batch convert and then grade the ProRes afterward?  There may not be a "one-click" solution but my current workflow is brutally slow.   Thanks for any help anyone can be,   -Aaron
  18. People of the world. Have you been able to locate a Pocket Cinema Camera or Blackmagic 4K Production Model? Has your dealer been weeping on your shoulder recently? Do you know something we don't?   :)   This is the place for all Blackmagic camera related shipping news.
  19. Hey Andrew,     I saw your post about working with premiere/ae with the bmcc and noticed you said you are using a macbook with an SSD as the main drive.     I just got my BMCC and havent been able to really use it at all because my macbook keeps crapping on itself everytime I try to do anything with the dng files or resolve. I have the same exact laptop as you I believe: Apple 2011 Macbook Pro 17' i7 8GB RAM.   I've been trying to do as much research as I can about installing an SSD as the main drive and switching the optical drive out of my computer in order to place my current 750gb HDD where I can save files to and actually have space to put stuff in. (I have plenty of external hard drives too, but it's nice to have space on your computer as well) The SSD I am very close to purchasing is the Samsung 840 Pro Series 256gb, which is supposed to be VERY, VERY fast.     The only thing stoppnig me from going through with it is the "cloning" process. I know I will have to put my OS (lion) on the ssd, but I am very confused about what I should do with all my applications (adobe cs6, divinci resolve, lightroom, film convert, etc, etc), and all the plugins I use like magic bullet, video copilot stuff, twixtor etc, along with everything else that is on my HDD right now. The reason I'm confused is because some people have told me that even though all that stuff will be saved on the HDD, I will have to go back and reinstall all the applications I use, onto the SSD. In short, I am just COMPLETELY lost about what I actually need to put on the SSD and how.     I have asked many different BMD and apple reps and have called nearby computer service stores and have gotten different answers from each of them. So I hope I can finally get an answer I trust from you since you have actually done the upgrade to the same computer I have, and have had great results with it, especially with your BMCC.   Thanks so much,   Omar A.
  20. Have been seriously considering this lens for my GH3 and (eventually) the BMPCC - though I can't seem to find any non-nature/event footage to get an idea of how it performs when shooting narrative work... The focus-by-wire and electronic aperture will be a pain for video shooting also... But the 12-35 range is really appealing (esp for the BMPCC). Anyone have any experience with this lens beyond test videos and home movies? Is it possible to create cinematic images with it under the right conditions, or are primes the only way to go? And if so, what would be an ideal prime lens set for the BMPCC (regarding focal length, not brand/model)?
  21. Some of the cons pointed out for Blackmagic Camera come from the point of view of casual DSLR shooting, not compared to other cinema cameras, which is what it's intended to compete with in a more budget-conscious manner. This was my thinking when pre-ordering the new Quad HD model.   A practical example:   The other day we were shooting an internal film for a client on Alexa Plus 4:3. Hey, if they can afford it...   The camera weighs 7KG (15lbs), that's just the body. Then you hang a Cooke prime on the front, a pair of Anton Bauers on the back and that's up to 10kg (22lbs) or so. Swap that for an Angeniuex or Arri Allura zoom for exmaple and you're up to 13KG (28lbs). That's before rigging, which needs to be heavy duty enough to hold such weight. As does your tripod.   We ate through eight big batteries in one day shoot, and they are bloody big expensive batteries. Also it wasn't really a full day in shoot terms. For day two we went to a an external tethered battery that was like a massive block of lead, so you have a person carrying that behind.   Does it look beautiful? Hell yeah! But it's not very easy...   The 4K (or Quad HD) BMD has an S35 sensor (it's actually smaller than S35 as most would think of it, but not enough to bother with, and not much more than the F55)  and you should be able to power it for a long time off of a chunky V-lok on a rig. You can then downscale the image in post or in camera to HD. You lose a few stops to the Alexa, but you can buy it for the price of a few days Alexa hire and use it every day til you know it like the back of your hand and you fill up your hard drive. And you can actually run and gun relatively stealthily due to global shutter and light weight. Seeing what could be done with the previous model of cinema camera actually made me think it wouldn't cut to bad with the Arri either.   Compared to picking up a 550D and shooting a friend or the trees outside, sure, Blackmagic cameras seem annoying, but compared to setting up a cinema camera? All the evidence so far from their previous camera suggests you'll get a long way to the wonderful look for less money, weight and hassle. Same for the pocket version, even if you have to rig it for batteries for some projects, I mean look at it, it's the size of a f***ing phone!   If you want to make narrative drama or blocked-out promo that is an amazing thought... you don't need to budget in a load of camera hire... just buy one of these, and that's all your films for the next three years sorted.   Now the new Red may have 6K, but I can't remember looking at a film shot on the old Red and thinking "oh that's not very detailed", quite the opposite, so it's quite excessive right now, and the cost is so high.   Let's just hope the new Cinema Cameras turn up in good time with no issues, after last year's debacle, all of those who have pre-ordered are rather nervous. There's quite a bit riding on these two models...   Now I just have to have a good idea... I knew there was a catch... ;)
  22. In this interview: http://vimeo.com/63892665#at=0   ... Petty says, that due to debayering the image of the Pocket BMCC was 'not so sharp as that of the 2,5k camera, but close'. He also talks about the idea to wrap DNGs as Quicktime files in order to facilitate playback (okay, I see Andrew wrote about this a week ago, I lost that then).   The interviewer made a short film with the BMCC and compared the camera to the 5D, this is his channel.
  23. I'm trying to figure out theoretically what the widest lens I can use with the new Blackmagic Pocket camera AND a Bolex 8/19/1.5 anamorphot. Would the Voigtlander 17.5mm work? How about the 24? (EDIT: meant the 25) Thanks for any input.
