  1. Hi, Few weeks ago, the french dealer Digistore lent me the blackmagic URSA camera together with a set of Canon CN Lenses. We had fun shooting 'Petit Bateau' : The codec was set to 4K RAW, we had Canon CN lenses and my lovely SQN3 mixer connected to the camera. My friend Broad Rush made the sound design of that short experimental film, if you wish to know more about the characters, here are two music videos that I have directed and shot on BMCC :
  2. I received my BM Pocket last week (after buying it in the summer sale and waiting aaaagggges for it). Anyway, I haven't had much time to play with it so this is my first attempt (RAW and ProRes 422 mix): Graded in FCPX (Resolve to convert the RAW) I love the camera already. The image is just so rich and full and happy to be pushed around. The moire bothers me a fair bit, but it's not a deal breaker.

  4. No official prices announced. Estimated between 300 - 400 $.
  5. Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera users now have audio level metering, time remaining indicator and histograms, bringing the cameras’ display functions, into line with 4K and newest URSA models. http://www.newsshooter.com/2014/08/21/blackmagic-design-firmware-1-9-3-finally-offers-audio-level-meters-time-remaining-indicator-and-histograms-to-the-pocket-cinema-camera-and-bmcc/
  6. Here. Remaining time is top on everyone's wish list, very probably it will soon come for the smaller models. As histogram (a nice one!) and audio levels appear through the touchscreen-function 'Head-Up', they might be still missing for the Pocket, but let's be thankful that there are things to come (instead of the theory that BMD abandoned the BMPCC after clearing their storage rooms with the summer special).
  7. Hello! I've finished this music video and I wanted to share it with you all. Shot mostly on the BMCC (Sony FS700 for the slow mo and some GoProHD Hero 3). Edited in FCP 7. CC with Magic Bullet Colorista and Cinegrain.
  8. Hi everybody, 2 Years i'm following Eoshd and only discover the forum now ... So i share with You a series of travelling movie i start to shoot with a blackmagic pocket CC with a pancake 20mm f1,7, This starts in Japan / Tokyo:
  9. Was amused, recently, at some of the posts about Blackmagic ignoring their current users. Looks like laugh is on me. I don't know why they advertise Resolve 11 when you can only download 10. Noticed a new version from yesterday, 10.4.1 and downloaded it. Immediately I could tell there was something not quite right. Slow. Crashed. Wouldn't import BMPCC dngs as a clip. Noticed other bug reports on their forum. SO SUGGEST YOU WAIT UNTIL 10.1.5, or 11. I meant 10.1.4 in title, sorry. Maybe BM is over-extended?
  10. Have been seriously considering this lens for my GH3 and (eventually) the BMPCC - though I can't seem to find any non-nature/event footage to get an idea of how it performs when shooting narrative work... The focus-by-wire and electronic aperture will be a pain for video shooting also... But the 12-35 range is really appealing (esp for the BMPCC). Anyone have any experience with this lens beyond test videos and home movies? Is it possible to create cinematic images with it under the right conditions, or are primes the only way to go? And if so, what would be an ideal prime lens set for the BMPCC (regarding focal length, not brand/model)?
  11. Cheap CFL bulbs are convenient, efficient and economical - but they typically have a lower Colour rendering index compared to Tungsten based lights and other more expensive lighting systems. Just how much of a difference is there? You decide (additional images/stills on my website: http://www.tommajerski.com/critest.html ) Shot on the BMCC 2.5k in Raw mode. Samyang 35mm 1.4 lens with no ND or filters. White balanced perfectly before the same colour grade was applied in Davinci Resolve 10. Debayered to UHD for better youtube viewing quality. For best results, set it to 4k quality and video on a HD monitor. White balanced exactly to the same point before applying a simple Contrast + Saturation grade. Debayered to 4k for best youtube viewing quality: Select 4k Streaming
  12. Hey there, I am relatively new to these discussions; but after having scoured the internet for some answers I have been at a loss, so where better to ask than here??? I have been working for a my organisation for a year now, and my job is essentially being the in-house film-maker, for the past year I have been using my Hacked Lumix GH2 (don't ask me what type of hack it is, I did it in 2012, recording between 88-90mbps with no negative side effects, except that no playback is available until the camera has been turned off and on). I typically shoot in cinema 23.976 fps in 1080p and have a very fluid workflow (I produce about 2 videos a week for the company I work for). Since last month I have been 'upgraded' to the Canon 5D MkIII since the company didn't want me to use my personal gear (for insurance reasons, I travel a lot with the gear). And while there are some downsides in terms of bulkiness of the 5D body compared to the GH2 (and lack of swivel screen) it is a standalone camera and I find the two can't be compared too much: they are both great and stand well on their own depending on the job required. My ultimate question is: now that we're in 2014 and seeing as the GH4 is about to be released, what is the 'next level' in affordable DSLR's (or even dedicated cameras, like the Black Magic)in your opinion? I feel like I have been out of touch with the camera world since I hacked my GH2 in 2012, is this a camera that seems 'future proof' (with the hack) or will it shrivel to the upcoming 4k's?
  13. Hello, New to the anamorphic game, have some questions. Few pics of the Hypergonar HiFi2 on a 7D (BMPCC next up). So far the results have been very nice and love the flares, but we noticed this lens is a bit soft. We've tried adding 1", 2", 3" of space between the camera lens and anamorphic lens hoping to find the "focal point"... didn't notice any difference. Moving on, Stopping down at F5.6 - F11 has increased the sharpness, but not by much. I'm curious if anyone else has a quick fix or has played with the inner glass orientation ? Any info. is good info. :)
  14. Hey Guys! Me and a few colleagues participated in a short film competition here in Germany called "99Fire Films Award". Here is our film: http://www.myvideo.de/Aktion/99fire-films-2014?videoId=9456776 We had 99 hours to produce a film with a length of 99 seconds about a given topic ("Life writes the most moving stories") It would be nice if you vote for us, if you like it! (It's possible to vote 9 times) Feel free to comment/criticize! Thanks! _________________________________________________________________________________________ - shot on BMPCC + Speedbooster(BMPCC edition) + Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 - edited in FCP7 / Adobe Audition - graded in Adobe After Effects

  16. Hey everybody, I put together a Christmas lights compilation video set to the theme song of Pan's Labyrinth. The entire video was shot on the Black Magic Pocket Camera along with a 10mm 1.6 Kern Switar and a 75mm 1.8 Olympus. I hope you all like it:) Trey
  17. Hi everyone, at first sorry if I may sound a bit confusing, english is not my first language, I'm no expert on cameras. Also sorry for making this post too long.   My father recently bought a new camera and gave me his Canon 7D and a Canon 24-105 Lens. I know the 7d is a nice camera for video specially with Magic Lantern, but I was thinking about selling the 7D and get the Blackmagic Cinema Camera.    I think is REALLY important mentioning that I would be selling the 7d here in where I live, and buying the BMCC on US, also the 7D here is worth the same as the BMCC in US so it would be like getting a BMCC "for free".   I know the BMCC has some issues like not being able to delete videos from the camera, see how much space i have left on the ssd, no audio meter.. but I think this will eventually be fixed on a future update.    At first I was considering the EF version so I could use my 24-105 lens without any kind of adaptor, but i read that the crop factor would be an issue on the EF version.    From what I read if I get the MFT version and use a speed booster, I could get the same crop factor as an APS-C sensor, which would be similar to the 7D. Is it possible to use the MFT speed boster and a EF to MFT adaptor so I can use my canon lens on the BMCC MFT while the Metabones EF to MFT speed boster does not come out ?   And also, is it a smart choice to get the BMCC instead of the 7d ?   Once again sorry if I said something wrong, and also for making this long post, but I think is important to make everything claer so I don't regrat my choice later on.   Thank you!
  18. UPDATE FOR SALE HERE, end on this monday the 16th of december 2013 :   http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=111235510675&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649         UPDATE : PRICE DOWN, but NO MORE ! ;)   Cine-NIKKOR 10mm f1.8   For sale !!!    http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=111235510675&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649     You can't miss this opportunity, this is a very good lens for your Blackmagic camera or your Blackmagic pocket camera ! You will have a fast and wide lens !!! This 10mm is a 24mm on BMPCC eq. in FF format !!! And it won't vignetting !!! (see picture number 2) You can also use it on M43 systems (GH1,GH2,GH3,OMD) but you will have vignette, or you can use it in ETC mode to avoid it. There is a filter thread (maybe 40.5mm) so you can use filters on it (like ND variable filter). Weight is 145gr. All metal made.   Here is a test done with it on GH2. You can notice that the minimum focus distance is very short (30cm)   https://vimeo.com/19586547   the lens is in good condition due to its age. Some trace of use on the barrel (7/10), few dust, no oil on the blades, few fungus, damaged coating. The glass is 5/10 (see last picture), but apparently it's not affecting the final image. Aperture rings and focus are very smooth (10/10). Sorry there is no front and rear caps. You will need an adapter from C-mount to your system to use it (not included) -no need to modify the rear barrel, and of course it is focusing up to the infinity.
  19. Good evening guys, I'm searching for a very fast or the fastest lens for the BMPCC. Then fastest I can think of is the Nikon AI 50mm / 55mm f/1.2 in combination with the BMPCC-Speedboster. Do you have another (better) advice? BTW: It's mostly for concert and nighttime shooting and perhaps to get a nice DOP. Thanks a lot! Moe
  20. Hey Guys. I'm absolutely new in anamorphic shooting and I'm just getting a BMPCC (Which means it will be present in about 5 months or so :D) I'm thinking about getting a bit into anamorphic shooting. I like the "look" of it very much, because it simply creates a whole different feeling than a "normal" 16*9 image. So I have a few questions: How should/can I start shooting anamorphic with the BMPCC? What lens / adapter+lens can be used with the Pocket? It should not be too expensive as I'm just beginning and want to get a bit in touch with it. What do I have to think of in terms of workflow? -> During Production and of course especially in Postproduction? I hope these questions do not sound to stupid or naive :D Greetings from germany.
  21. Hello Guys! I have good news! My BMPCC as arrived :)   I just received my firts C-mount for it:   The "Rodriguez" Lens (El Marichi): Kinoptik Tegea 5.7mm T2 (f/1.8)               First test (read the description on vimeo): http://vimeo.com/77128640     Best, JDS
  22. Last week we bought the BMCC MFT stepping up from compressed DSLR dslr filmmaking to the delightfulness of shooting raw. While doing some bmcc research i came across the comparison test 'Some Like It RAW' by Ryan E. Walters. He basically compared the Arri Alexa, BMCC and Red Epic in three short tests: IR filtration, Low-light and overexposure. I found the results quite useful and certainly contributed crossing the threshold and purchasing the bmcc.   Without giving away the results, I asked myself how you guys think about the bmcc image sharpness. Many filmmakers/DP's seem to find the bmcc image a tad too sharp. Personally, i love the out-of-the camera sharpness and prefer to sharpen it slighty myself to give it that 'punchy' image (though not too sharp).   Here are the videos:   http://vimeo.com/60008926   http://vimeo.com/60271810   http://vimeo.com/60870866                                       .
  23. Hello guys, introducing myself with a short shot of the BMC Pocket, just using the 14.140mm Lumix zoom (hard used and few scratched) and a polarizer filter. Ungraded/Graded shots.  Resut was pretty pleasant, despite of few few time to make it. Questions and comments wellcomed, I am not DOP but director/writer, but well, always learning (camera and better english :-)   https://vimeo.com/76969600   Cheers, JF Calero.
