My cameras and kit

  1. Hi guys, I've bought an Olympus OM10 film camera with a 50mm lens. Because I wanted a zoom lens to use with it I got through ebay a sigma 28-80mm f 3.5-4.5 UC zoom. I have just received the lens and I notice that sometimes half of the focus aim inside the viewer gets darker or black. If I'm not wrong it happend too with 50mm lens but then during my photoshots it never happened again. Does anybody knows why this happen?may it be because the camera had no film inside (I was just trying the lens) or because I was in a poor light environment? Thanks for everything guys!
  2. Recently I got a cat, so now I can make proper test videos :P Panasonic GH4 firmware 1.0 Lens: Minolta MD 28mm f/2.8 + >Petit Cinevision 1.5x anamorphot 4K @ 24 fps (3840x2160) Cinelike V profile, ungraded All shots at f/2.8, 1/50. ISO around 4000. Soundtrack: "Menehune Dance" by James Pants (jamespants.com)
  3. I made my first anamorphic purchase with a Kowa 16-H.  I am waiting for Redstan adapters and I wanted to get  some feedback on which taking lens would be ideal with my setup.   I've heard that anything below 80mm will vignetter due to the Kowa's 2x and the mk III sensor size.   For any mk ii / mk iii owners out there... what taking lenses are you using/recommend for your Kowa 2x?
  4. Hi I am planning on buying Rokinon/Samyang Cine lenses for my dslr, but as I was searching for a place to buy them, I saw a difference between the names of the same lense for example this two : 1) Rokinon 85mm T1.5 AS IF UMC Cine lens 2) Rokinon 85mm T1.5 Cine lens So I searched and I saw that UMC referees to the coating and its seems to be different from the other one. And I don't know what IF stands for tough. So is different? Is the first one better than the other one? I also found a difference in the name between the Samyang ones and the Rokinon ones, which surprises me because they are supposed to be the same lenses, right? 3) Samyang 35mm T1.5 ED AS UMC 4) Rokinon 35mm T1.5 AS UMC So now I am even more confused because I don't know what ED stands for... Please help me out understanding this. Are they actually different? Or are they exactly the same lenses? Thanks :) PS: Sorry if I made a mistake in spelling, english is not my first language.
  5. Hello everyone, We are planning to shoot a very low budget feature film this summer and I have some questions on the camera set we will use and I hope you can help me on some of the following: 1. The 16:9 sensor on the GH2 + a 2x anamorphic adapter produces a final stretched anamorphic aspect of 3.55. Which would result in (1920x1080)*(2)= 3840x1080. Instead of doing the decompression from 2x, I want to interpret the shot as if pixels would be 1.333 or 1.4587. I know it keeps the image still a little deform but I think I like the look. Whats your technical and/or creative take on it? (SEE IMAGES BELOW) 2. We would project it on standard 2k (2048×1080) DCP cinemas and the final cut would fit into it with a 2048x858 (2.39:1) size movie. Am I right? or does it work in another way? 3. I am currently using Sedna AQ1 for max detail against anamorphic softening against big screen projection. Do you think it will hold enough? Would you sharpen in post? Whats you recommend any other hack? Given this 3 points which would be your opinion on this process? Have any of you seen any gh2 anamorphic content projected in 2k dcp? How does it stand? Thanks for your help! P.D. Anyone selling a Kowa 16-h (8z) In order not to be so limited with the 16D in lens minimum mm´s?
  6. My first shot with the new camera and this lens adaptor. I am still learning. Cannon 50mm 22/f 200 ISO San Disk Extreme Pro card - 95MB/s (1) Afternoon light on a hazy day, no filters. Love the camera. Let me know what you think. Thanks, RJett
  7. I'm looking to learn how to fully clean/repair lenses more than simply puffing with a blower and wiping with a cloth... I have a bunch of old P entax SMC lenses that I don't mind pulling apart (two of them have a little fungus) and want to use them to practice repairing old manual primes. Unfortunately I can't find much online, nor any books on the topic. I have even tried to find information on specific lenses (Pentax, Nikkor etc.) but still nothing detailed. So essentially I am asking if anyone knows of books/websites etc. here I might be able to learn anything related to pulling lenses apart, cleaning/repairing them, and putting them back together again (all stages being vital!). I understand that this is as much a science as a skill, with precision and math being vital... but surely the talented folks repairing lenses haven't all learnt through apprenticeship? I've been pulling apart and re-assembling things since I was a kid (to various degrees of success), and sooner or later I'm just going to dive in... so please educate me before I make a mess!

  12. UNTITLED BELGIAN FILM NOIR Following an earlier posting about a teaser I shot anamorphic on LA7200, I've now launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance the missing part of the production budget - principal photography to start this coming summer. It's bloody, noir, full of intrigue, and still missing a title. Check it out for yourself on www.bloody-title.com And help make it happen! Thanks for reading, Jo
  13. Hello everyone, These are just some random snaps cut together using the DSO Trump FF58 with a 1.5X oval aperture inside, combined with the iscorama 1.5X anamorhic. Simulating the bokeh of a 2X anamorphic.. Anyways I thought some of the shots looked pretty good an wanted to share. Pretty cool being able to shoot this on a D800 and not go to wide like 3.25:1 Password is buds
  14. Hey, I randomly came across this on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Xume-72mm-Camera-Lens-Filter-Adapter-Ring-holder-Pro-kit-Kenko-Hoya-B-W-fit-/171066254292?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27d457e3d4 Sounds like it would be great for faster Diopter changes. Few of my concerns (besides a hundred bucks for magnets) are possible vignetting? I know I get some vignetting when I stack diopters on my isco 36, full frame. Anyone have any experiences with these?
  15. Not sure if this was posted anywhere, but great test footage of the GH4 4K + Sankor 2x Anamorphic from Martin Wallgren:
  16. The EosHD Anamorphic guide persuaded me to buy this lens so i see only fitting to post this here. So im auctioning off this Kowa Bell & Howell 2x anamorphic lens. If anybody is interested see the ebay listing below. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261379409543?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649#shpCntId Any questions are welcom. Thank you
  17. I want to use a zoom with my anamorphic attachment but don't know where to start looking, I need it to be cheap, vintage, and obviously the front filters can't turn when zooming or focusing the lens any recommendations?
  18. Hi everyone! This is a pretty old Canon FD lens that has been living in a loft for a while. Could you please have a look at the linked image and videos to see if you think these 'marks' are scratches or if it's actual lens fungus. The marks don't look particularly web-like. Video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B91VnX2oD4NdZFd4WlNlUGF1S1U/edit?usp=sharing Video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B91VnX2oD4NdeEdOOG5pQ0pOTHM/edit?usp=sharing Image: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B91VnX2oD4NdUnVBSGVtRTNKY1U/edit?usp=sharing Thanks Daniel
  19. Hi! I have this anamorphic lens but I can't really know what it is exactly. Who can tell? It's exactly similar to a Kowa/Sankor/Singer 16D (and the "72mm Front Filter Ring" works on it), but it's only written on "Japan 2X anamorphic lens for BELL & HOWELL". Is it better or cheaper than the others Kowa/Sankor/Singer? My other question is: would it need an achromat or is it good enough to work "nude"? (I would like to try an "okina achromatic close up +0.4" with this anamo and have maybe a sharper image.) Would it work inevitably better with an Okina, or not? Thanks a lot!
  20. Ok so I've been using cineplus cinema picture style along side ive Lotus picture style both being a Kodak vision2 kind of in camera grade. I usually tweak them a bit in post but for the most part they are very good and quite cheap honestly but that's not what I wanted to talk about. What do you guys think about grading footage to look like 35 or 16mm film? I'm not talking necessarily "the film look" but I mean making footage actually look as if it was shot on film. What techniques do you use? Any type of workflow/grains you recommend? Is it overrated to go for this look and how often do you do this kind of grade?
  21. Hey guys! So, I'm selling my last remaining anamorphics, and just keeping the two I like the most. The ones that are going away are pretty good, and rare too, one could say. They're all in great shape, no dents, dust, scratches or fungus. -- UPDATED 05/16/2014 Thanks everyone, all lenses have been sold and I've only kept the Iscorama. Should look for a 2x stretch dual focus setup after a while, but right now I'm just glad people were so honest with buying the lenses I had. :)
  22. Simple, all-in-one lens kit for S35 and M43 sensors, I've shot many fun projects with this sharp and agreeable little setup. It's for sale now for anyone interested. Moving to SLR Magic Anamorphot soon. Let me know if you have any questions, thanks for looking! Click here for eBay auction, demo video in description.
  23. hi there! I read the following on the slr magic website from the slr magic website: "The adapter has a 77mm front filter thread and a native 62mm rear thread with a 58mm, 52mm, 49mm adapter rings provided. As such it is only suitable for lenses which have a front element size of 50mm or less." source: http://www.slrmagic.co.uk/slr-magic-anamorphot-133x-50-anamorphic-adapter.html 50mm or less? so if I wanna use that anamophot with a full frame e.g. 5d III there wouldn't be any proper lenses ...! as far as I remember Andrew Reid did a test with the canon pancake and that's 52 mm ... I'm confused. Can anyone help me?
  24. A Day at the Zoo with a Kowa Prominar 16-D in front of a Nikon (e) 50mm f/1.8 using the Redstan clamp.
  25. A trailer for an upcoming feature film I wrote and co-directed. We shot the movie on a C300 using the 16/32/1.5x Bolex Moller anamorphic adapter lens. Many thanks to the people on this forum for helping me figure out the logistics of this during pre-production! YouTube Link
