  1. Testing the sharpness of the Rokinon Cine 85mm with Lens Turbo on the Pansonic GH4
  2. Hi my dear anamorphic friends ! here is a "Scarface's like" wedding :) and my brother's wedding :) all this was shot in GH4 4K and 1080p 96fps happy end of the summer ! :)
  3. Hello, I am selling my beloved 2X anamorphic lens, the Kowa 8Z. If you have any questions please ask. Excellent condition! Money Back guarantee. Will miss it. Selling it because of money needs. Worlwide shipping. Can ship as a gift. http://www.ebay.es/itm/Kowa-Prominar-8Z-16H-Anamorphic-Lens-Vid-Atlantic-front-and-rear-Lens-Clamps-/291193973300?
  4. I've been looking for a suitable zoom lens to work behind an anamorphic. I stumbled upon the Olympus Pen-F 50-90 F3.5, which seems to have the right kind of DNA. Its a half frame lens so is suitable for mirrorless APSC and below. Its relatively fast, not too far away from the F2.8 pro standard and has a front optic about 40mm diameter and of course has a nice range of 50-90mm at constant F3.5 https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=olympus+50-90+f3.5&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=no-hU9L-DPSB7Qbds4CICA&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAg&biw=1057&bih=524 I don't know if its par focal If anyone knows this lens I would appreciate details, and if you have used it behind an anamorphic please report your findings.
  5. Hi all, I'm moving from the BMCC MFT to the Sony A7s. The BMCC all rigged up is just too much for me as a one man band, too heavy and too many pieces to put together and keep track on. The pay off (the image) is worth it, but I feel it's limiting me creatively in a bad way. I also want to get back into still photography (Never had full frame before, this should be interesting). That's also why I'm getting rid of my Nikon AI(s) primes. I want zooms. Not because they're better, but more convenient, I got more of a "on the go in available light" kind of style. Nikon mount is great with adapters thanks to a click-less aperture control, but it would be nice to have autofocus as well (apparently that's a no go with Nikon according to my googling and forum reading skills), but everything Canon leaves a bad taste in my mouth (well.. not really, I'm just as skeptical as any other DSLR shooter who started out on Canon and saw them staying behind on purpose). I haven't found a good affordable alternative to Metabones yet. Likewise with native Sony FE mount. Full frame also use all of the glass, so I'm being more careful about the quality in the edges this time, nothing I had to worry about before, really. For 1080 video I guess it's alright, not really noticeable, but when taking stills and maybe later 4K video... What is acceptable? Not asking for perfection, I got more of a "on the go in available light" kind of style. I really like to film/photograph people in their surroundings. Sláinte!
  6. Hey guys. Another short i shot. GH4 Anamorphic. M42 mount taking lenses and a 70's Vivitar zoom. Another model 1 on 1. 70's vibes and shooting. the 2k pro-res looks awesome, one day vimeo should get there shit together!
  7. Hello everyone, i just got an Iscorama (pre-36) and tested it with several taking lenses, it seems that the focus is a bit crooked, means sharpness goes a bit from left down to right up - did any of you ever noticed such an issue or heard about something like this?? Thanks for your replies in advance! best regards Fisimatenten

  9. Hello! I recently picked up a GH3 and am wondering what lens setup to purchase. I have done some research and am thinking about these two options. 1. Metabones Speedbooster with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 II (Nikon Mount) as I had the old Sigma 30mm 1.4 on my 550D and loved it! 2. Voigtlander 25mm f0.95 and the SLR Magic 12mm f1.6. Would love to know what you guys think! Thanks :)
  10. Hello! I bough this Dylaiscope Junior 16 anamorphic projector lens from ebay last week for $51, I was very surprised No one ever out bid me. Optically it is in pretty good shape, some minor cosmetic scratches on the body. The main problem I have with it is the focus ring is fairly difficult to turn. I basically need to take it off the mount to set focus everytime because Im afraid I will put unneccesary stress on the lens and mount attached to the camera. I was just wondering if anyone has any experince or knowledge about lubricating lenses. I already know it is generally not a good idea for a non profession to take apart an anamorphic lens since all the elements need to stay perfectly alligned, but I was wondering if anyone knows the function of the 3 screws towards the back of the lens seen in the picture. I can sorta see a bar inside the lens that they seem to be holding. I have taken apart old Canon fd mount lenses before and reassembled with no issue but Im sure this is a bit more difficult. What would happen if I were to loosen those screws? It seems to me that this lens has probably been sitting somewhere for a very long time and the original lubricant has become less oily or something. I removed the face plate of the lens with all the writing on it and removed some of the grease and found it was a greenish shade, which I read from other forums is a type of grease known for sticking over time, not sure if it is the same grease used throughout the lens though. From what Ive read Dyaliscope lenses are of pretty good quality but havent been able to really find much about them. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.
  11. I'm looking for reviews and comparisons of quality and functionality among the many different brands of 2x squeeze anamorphic lenses on the market. I am aware of the LOMO, Kowa Prominar / Kowa Bell & Howell etc... that are listed in the 'Anamorphic Shooters Guide' but was wonering from your experience and research what brand of 2x lens is the best value for money. Thanks.

  14. Earlier in anamorphic forum I asked advice for export options for my first anamorphic material shot with GH4. So here is the result from my shooting: After encoding to Vimeo, material looks a bit darker. Don't know why. Exported master file isn't as dark. Maybe it is because the h.264 encoding? Please comment and share if you like, thanks! :)

  16. Hello to everyone, I've been looking for a small anamorphic adapter for a long long time from now, and finally, I got mine. I've been hesitating about which one to take : the search of the perfect adapter that would suit all my needs.. for a reasonnable price ofc.. (Yeah, I know..) Anyway I'm so happy to tell you that I "may" have found it : The Yashica Scope, 1.5x adapter anamorphic for 8mm ! (Well let's make the things clear, I was looking for a tiny, compact, and light weight adapter, to be paired to some old school c-mount lenses on a BMPCC, I don't claim to have found an awesome setup that'll work for every scenarios ! :) ) I've just received it, that's why I'll only share my first feelings in this post, but later when I'll have time to dig more in the subject I'll come back to this. I still need a proper way to attach it to my taking lens. I gave up on step-down ring because I plan to use it most of the time on my Angenieux C-mount lenses which filter thread is 39mm... The Yashica is 30mm.. And I can't find any 39 to 30mm ring. If anyone has any info about a ring that would work, let me know ! ^_^ Anyway, the best way seems to be a custom clamp, still have to work on that... Here are some screenshots : All of these screenshots have been shot with my Angenieux 25mm f/0.95 at fast aperture (even at 0.95 for the indoor shot) with a +1 diopter from Schneider. Above f2.8 with the Angenieux 25mm, you can notice a little of vignetting on the edges, but It doesn't bother me too much, since I doesn't use the whole image, I prefer to crop in order to get a 2.35 or even a 2.10 aspect ratio. 2.66 is way too wide for most of my tastes ! :P And whatever, I'm mostly after the oval bokeh, flares and the overall look of anamorphic depth of field. So I'm good with that.. And It cleans the edges which seem to be pretty blurry on the Yashica. (By the way, above 25mm I haven't seen any vignetting with my c-mount lenses) So, have you ever experienced this anamorphic lens, what would you recommend to me in order to use it the best way possible ? See you later and have a nice day/night to all. (Oh and I apologize for my pretty weak english !) :P
  17. Hello to everyone, My name is Mario Gorlas, i was born in hungary 1978 and live and work now for 20 years in germany. This is my first post at eoshd (i love this portal, thanks and my honor to Andrew Reid) and direct a "for sale" post. I know it's not the best idea, don't beat me, please and let me explain. I'm a guest in this forum for a long time and reading topics here a several times per week and especially i follow the works of Andrew Reid and Seb Farges. The problem was/is i never learnd english in school, since the last two years i'm teaching myself, but i'm ashamed for my bad english grammar and had big fear for bad critics, excuse me, please! We are a little filmteam of one woman and three guys. We're filming first of all weddings and also music clips and commercials. Our equipment was three Panasonic GH2, two Canon 5d MK2 and one Black Magic camera with several taking lenses, for example Voigtlander, Canon FD 50 and 85mm and this amazing anamorphic lenses. We starting to work with this anamorphic lenses in 2012, first a lttle scene here, a little scene there. Then more and more clients see our samples and want this look for there own film/clip, this 70's 80's look, they grown up with. We've produced amazing, wonderful looking videos, looking like big 70's and 80's cinematic movies, i love this optic. We've worked in november 2013 for german television on a documentary and we have now the opportunity to go on work with this television channel!! Buuut, there is a requirement, we must invest in Arri systems....ouch! You all know that this cameras are very expensive, and so must sell my anamorphic set with big big bigger tears in my eyes!!! Our cameras are all sold for fair prices except the ana's, it is no market here in germany, it seems like here is only a handfull people who worked with. For examples click the dropbox links below the pictures, there are screenshots out of quick test videos. This videos are realy quick tests, hold the ana with my hand in front of the taking lens. The camera was the badest thing i have for videos, a canon t3i 600d with kit lens 18-55mm (only for ebay photos), cause all other cameras are sold, all other equipment for these cameras are sold, all clamps for the anas are sold with the cams. With the right cam and taking lens you can get amazing qualitiy. I can't show any video cause there are copyright problems with the clients, the videos are not my own, please bear with me, you can find a lot of videos at vimeo and other video portals. The pictures are straight out of the cam, don't wondering about some pictures/scene/focus adjustment, i try to show you with some pictures how this ana look feels, how sharp is it in the edges, dof, light etc. Some of the Isco 1.5 screenshots are not correct de-squeeze. We used it when the focused object is moving in deepths or when the camera is moving (for example steadycam shots), zoom shots. Never in long shots/wide shots cause it's not the sharpest for this shots. It's the perfect allround ana for closeups and migrange shots. I payed over 1000$ in a time you can't get one, that is to much. - in very very good condition, the rear glass look like it's never be touched - smooth focus, one focus system (Isco patent) - front glass has little mini ?scratches/cleaning traces? i never try to polish away cause you don't see it on video and it has an effect on lightspots at night scenes and let it looked like a dreamy scene, i often use this effect in my products - no fungus, no dust - focus without diopter min 0,5 meter - with all equipment you see on the photos - very light - complete solid metal Iscomorphot 16/2x for 1190 $ http:// Click the dropbox link for picture gallery https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dp51e6yohacl1nx/LK6_XPs4ye We used this lens for midrange, long/wide and steadycam shots, very very sharp, wonderful amazing look!! 18. I'd like to set up a post where people can talk about their experiences having their anamorphic lenses serviced and repaired. I have very limited knowledge and (fortunately) no experience with an actual repair so far, but please contribute if you have something that you can share here. Many of these lenses are very old and might need some work! In no particular order: GENERAL ANAMORPHIC LENS REPAIR Super 16 Inc (New York) - Bernie O'Doherty repairs and services anamorphic lenses. From Bernie: "A maladjustment of 1/64th to 1/32nd of a degree can mean the difference between a sharp image and one that needs a close-down to f4/5.6 to provide a decent image. And customers seem to accept lower image quality where anamorphic lenses are concerned. Of course, some lenses have imperfect design features which prevent optimum image quality, but, in general, after a good optimizing, most lenses, even anamorphic, benefit from such a servicing." Focus Optics (California) - They may service other anamorphic lenses. When I emailed them, I got a one-line reply that said something like, "Yes, we service anamorphic lenses". Which ones, I am not sure of. Abel Cine Tech (New York, Chicago, Los Angeles) - I came across a forum in which they offered their services when someone asked about a problem Kowa. ISCORAMA REPAIRFocal Point Lens (Colorado) - John Van Stelten was the official one-man Isco projection lens repair service in the United States up until they were absorbed by Schneider a few years back. He has worked on lots of Iscoramas. He is one of the few lens repair specialists that I have talked who offers lens polishing and re-coating. It's not cheap and it can be risky, but in some cases, this process successfully removes any trace of scratches, coating issues, and fungus that has etched into a lens element. He also has an autocollimator, which is essential for re-callibrating lenses after they have been taken apart. Nippon Photo Clinic Service (New York) - They are listed in the Wikipedia article on Iscorama as being a repair show that can service Iscoramas. They can probably service Kowa and Bell & Howell as well. I need to give them a call to confirm (they are closed for the weekend). LOMO REPAIROlex Camera Services (Ukraine) - I have emailed back and forth with Olexandr quite a bit with questions about my Lomo square front. He is very knowledgeable. I have not yet had to employ his services, but Ed Lee of the Lomo Anamorphic User blog has, and he's given Olexandr high marks. I wish that Olexandr accepted PayPal! Super 16 Inc (New York) - Services Lomo anamorphic lenses. See mention above for more info. RafCamera (Belarus) - Rafael can install PL mounts and geared rings on Lomos. Focus Optics (California) - They service Round Front and BAS model Lomos.
  19. Hi guys. So let's say in theory if Metabones brought out a EF lens mount specifically for the GH4 with electronics, which I'm about to buy), and we lived in this universe.... I'm going to make the move from TV documentary editing/shooting into directing short films, more commercials, more music videos/ and a step up to a documentary DV director. That sort of thing. I'm planning on getting the GH4, with a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 as my first lens, as it is by all accounts a very high quality lens and would fit me perfectly for most situations. So... do I buy the GH4 with a speed booster with a nikon mount, and a nikon mount Sigma? Or do I wait for a possible soon to be released metabones speedbooster for the GH4, EF mount with electronics etc and a canon mount Sigma? I'd like your (much more knowledgable about DSLR's) guys opinions?! If I got the GH4, with a speed booster, which glass is the wise to invest in? I don't have a lot of money to spend on lenses in the near future, so I'd rather cheap quality glass in general. Canon/Nikon mounts? Which one in general is cheaper for a high level of quality? Which is just the best in general for someone like me? Who wants to start shooting low budget short films and features? Also what's the actual benefit of a EF mount with proper electronics? Does it just mean that I could use the autofocus feature on the GH4 with the Canon lenses? Any other benefits? Would it mean that lenses with image stabilisation would work on the canon lenses while on the GH4, and an imaginary speed booster which would allow such a thing?

  21. Honoring My Father is the story behind Keith Kadoyama attending the Lantern Floating Ceremony every year. The Lantern Floating Ceremony honors our loved ones who have passed away. Keith honors his father Mitsuo Kadoyama, and he tells his story. Thanks to my good friend Keith for doing this. I conceived of the idea when I saw the announcement just 2 days before, and I'm glad he was up for the challenge. I shot all of this myself, so it was a lot of hard work! 22. Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get some insight, feedback, reviews, attempts etc at finding or modding a follow focus for older anamorphic lenses where the front element moves in and out like the Iscorama and Lomo roundfront lenses. Ive been leaning towards a lanparte follow focus and trying to join 2 of the smaller gears so hopefully the larger gear on the lens will just travel from one to the other. suggested by Mr Gale :) Anyone else have any experience on this. Is it even an issue....People have to have a solution for the Lomos at least. The Iscorama is tapered which puts friction FF's out of the question. Thanks everyone Rob B
  23. I just secured an Iscorama 36 and I want to be able to mount it to rails so I can swap cameras and lenses easily, as well as use a follow focus. I have a vid-atlantic adapter to mount on the back that makes it a 52mm rear thread. But I don't want to screw it onto taking lenses. I'd rather just mount it on rails, makes everything easier. I was thinking of using lens collars like I do with 2x adapters, but the 52mm barrel size is quite small and I'd have to make a spacer of some kind. Any ideas are very welcome thank you!
