My cameras and kit

  1. Hello this is my first post in this anamorphic forum. I've read the book, brought the lens and now want to share and learn from other anamorphic shooters. So if you would indulge me please watch my first and only video I made using a Sankor 16c + Hellios 44 with Vid-Atlantic VClamp. Also please check out the attached photo taken today which I really like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoQ9_hE4XZg&sns=em I love the result but my anamorphic setup takes much too much time, trail & error, it getting anything usable. One the trick that I've found very effect is the mount the VClamp to a uv filter so the Sankor has a flat surface to be clamped onto.
  2. I am selling another one of my compact Moeller rigs. This unit is freshly serviced and performs to factory specification. It has a Cyan coating.   See photo below of a similar lens I sold recently (right click for big sizes)   - Moeller 32/2x CinemaScope Anamorphot - Custom Lens Support for 15mm Rods/Rails - Sigma Achromat Diopter 58mm - Coupling Ring for 52mm   This is a professionally serviced lens and has NATO MIL SPEC Helicoid grease assuring you of smooth focussing whether you are shooting in the Alps or Cococabana beach. The lens is free of internal dust, fungus and haze. Focus range is 5 feet to Infinity and using the achromat can get you closer to 2 feet.   There is some paint loss on the high ridges of the focus ring and minor very faint cleaning marks which don't show in the footage.   You can use any type of lens with this rig - classic manual, auto focus, rotating front element lenses and even plastic kit lenses. The support, once set up, will guarantee no slanted videos.   The aluminium locking clamps are spring loaded, solid brass retention ring and heavy duty marine grade stainless steel cap hex bolt offers you the best quality.   Price is £465.00 plus shipping. Returns are 14 days at buyers shipping cost.   Contact me at the website below for a shipping quote to your area. or visit the ebay listing   http://www.ebay.com/itm/130951632142?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_5280wt_1140
  3. Hi All, I just finished a big review of the Flare Factory 58 lenses from Dog Schidt Optics. You can read the full review here http://www.robbannister.com/blog/   The mandatory cat test was shot with the Neutral FF58 and the iscorama and the other video with the Amber FF58 is not with the anamorphic because I had sent it off for the close focus mod. Though the Amber version pairs really well with the iscorama and you can see a small sample of that at the end with the car.   https://vimeo.com/67975230   https://vimeo.com/69262934   straight out of the camera no CC, password: radioactive https://vimeo.com/68393006
  4. I know its like beating a dead horse. Long shot, but looking to see if i can find a proper +0.4 diopter for the Panasonic LA7200. Not finding much of anything so figured id post see if anyone either has one to sell or knows some good spots to look. Thanks!

  6. Im in Japan right now and hunting for anamorphic lenses. Havent found any for a good price until today. Two anamorphic lenses which Ive never heard before.   Cornie Anamorphic 16 Hokushin Anamorphic-16     Its about 90$ for the first one and 130$ for the second lens. Is it worth the money? What adaptors can I use to get it working on my Canon 7D?   The guy who owns the camera shop has limited english skills and didnt even know he had anamorphic lenses and what they are used for. I found them in the shop by accident.   The second lens appear to be promising, Ive been searching the web for more info and reviews about it but cant  find anything. Thats why im asking you guys, the best anamorphic forum on the web for help!   Best Regards Denko
  7. Hi all, I've been hesitating forever of even thinking about starting the long process of collecting lenses, due to the inertia that the neverending onslaught of new technology brings. There are so many promising directions this whole world could go, from the super-16 BMPC to the full-frame Canon 5D Mark III RAW, so my current thinking is that it's most sensible to go with the largest coverage format (full frame) and collect lenses from there, and then if the market settles anywhere (super 35, full frame, APS-C), you won't have obsolete glass lying around. I'm looking for as many people as possible to poke holes in the intuition or offer different plans as my current one:   I've been thinking lately about collecting Nikon AI-S lenses, since they are the final (and presumably, best?) generation of Nikon manual focus glass.   Some advantages as I see it are: adaptibility to the largest range of lens mounts long-focus throw age-related image character je ne sais quoi good build quality relatively cheap relatively compact Nikon quality (perceived? Is Canon just as good/better? Does Canon have an equivalent AI-S-era option that would work on current Canons?) Nikon-optimization, as I prefer Nikon for stills work Cheap adapters can control aperture, as opposed to Canon mount Fast   Some disadvantages that I would imagine: Breathing and every other problem inherent in stills-optimized/non-cine lenses Difficulty finding cheap super wide options that would translate to normal lenses on much smaller sensors (Super 16, M43, BMCC, 1") Futility of collecting for BMPC when you end up settling on a 5DIII and have all these useless super-wides   I'm sure a lot of people on here have thought a lot harder than I have about this quandry, or have skin in the game already, so if anyone has some personal experience or insight on how the filmmaking community is currently addressing this issue, please contribute any and all wisdom! What are general lens collection strategies to maximize utility and minimize cost? Is it presumed that lenses will hold value, so you can just sell them off with minimal long-term losses? Are there lenses that better meet ones needs? Would Canon make more sense, since a follow focus will allow for long focus throws anyway? Are there cheaper options (Contax (Zeiss), for example?)   One caveat:   I shoot stills as well. Is it ridiculous to think that shooting manual focus on all my various stills cameras (NEX-7, GH2, frequent Nikon rentals) is possible, and that I'd need to invest in a second set of AF stills camera (obviously this is a nuanced question, as different photography genres have different needs, but my work does include street photography).

  9. Now I realize this probabl isn't the best idea just wondering what everyone's opinion on it was. I was thinking for a better lens flare removing the multicoating on my cheaper canon lens. I found this tutorial although I'm a bit dubious as to how well it would work. http://www.ehow.com/how_7830132_replace-multicoating-camera-lens.html Just using clean wipes? Can it really be that easy?
  10. I have just won a Soligor CD 8/500mm mirror lens, the rare smaller one to put behind Big Bob (see pic below). Big Bob has a rear optic of 80mm and the Soligor is 72mm so all should be OK, when it arrives.   As you know mirror lenses produce interesting aperture reflections which are round but have a hollow center because of the central mirror. (those of you may remember the Capt Scarlet & the Mysterons, a puppet show on UK TV)   Anyway, I have been thinking about what the aperture reflections will look like and indeed what the bokeh will look like when it is anamorphosed.   It may be  1 oval outside with an oval hollow 2 oval outside  with a circular hollow 3 something else   What do you think?   Also what will happen to the flares? They may be 4 horizontal continuous lines as usual 5 horizontal broken lines     I have a box of virtual cigars for the winners :P
  11. As a result of a slight cash shortage I have decided to sell 2 of my most prized lenses. Yes it hurts ;)   - Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95 (SOLD) - Olympus M.Zuiko 12mm f/2.0   [attachment=562:voigt+olympus.jpg]   Both are extremely sought-after prime lenses for the Micro Four Thirds system. The Olympus is arguably the best wide-angle lens available for the GH2 and GH3, and the Voigtländer's reputation as a beautiful video and photography lens is well-deserved.   Both lenses are in perfect working order, with only a few minor cosmetic bumps. The glass is completely free of scratches, internal dust or fungus.   Lenses are on offer seperately or together with a generous discount ;) PM me for pricing & more photographs if you are interested! Or contact me at jack.versen@gmail.com.
  12. Hey guys,   Made up my mind to sell some of my gear. 13. Hey all! First post here. I fairly recently got into anamorphic shooting. Since a young age, I wanted to be able to recreate the anamorphic footage. I used to use the magic bullet filter and crop my footage which looking back was really quite horrible and stupid. I bought a sun anamorphic lens off ebay for relatively cheap and am so happy! I made  short little film earlier out in the sun. It's of nothing really, just testing out equipment. I think it gives of nice results, although I find it hard to keep focus. Hope to use it on a project at somepoint.   https://vimeo.com/69722698

 http://www.ulule.com/womanhattan/   PROJECT SUMMARY:
For 20 years (1993-2013), I got used to go with my girlfriends to New York, and set my love memories on film...
WOMANHATTAN is a film from my point of view as an obsessive director: the obsession of filming my girlfriends in New York, the obsession of magnifying them, the technological obsession of finding the camera shots that best reflected my feelings.
WOMANHATTAN is a trip back in time, before and after 9/11, where I take us to the heart of New York and its urban landscapes, my thoughts on the passing of time, on love and the possibility of being free one day from my obsessions, and living fully the present and my love life. To discover my world here is the teaser :   https://vimeo.com/31303587     And also on facebook :
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Womanhattan/308092392578172 I hope you find this project exciting and unique enough to be a part of it. Thank you! Seb Farges   https://vimeo.com/51028337
  15. Hey guys,   This might have come up before, but I seem to be having a strange phenomenon while using any thrid party taking lens with my Iscorama pre 36.  The stock nikkon 2.8 fixed lens that came with the Isco doesn't display these "icicle" like artifacts from flaring. This happens with my Nikkon 50mm  f1.4, and my Helios 58mm 44-2m, and also some weird transparent vignetting happens with the iris blades on both.  I was wondering if anyone knows why this is happening, and or have a possible solution for it.     The picture below is with my Nikkon 50mm f1.4, very simular to the results of the helios.

  17. EMKE Hawaii recording new music in the studio!  I tagged along and tested shooting Anamorphic with my Canon 5DMKIII.  Using the different aspect ratios, I used 4:3 1600x1200.  This is perfect for my Sankor 2x Anamorphic Projection lens.  I then used After Effects to make the image fit 1080P.  Music is their original song "Open Eyes" acoustic version.   Canon 5DMKIII w Magic Lantern RAW June 3rd Build Lexar 64GB 1000x CF Card After Effects to Premiere Pro Canon 100mm Macro Sankor 2x Anamorphic Projection Lens   https://vimeo.com/68611134
  18. What are the honest odds of getting an iscorama 54 non multi coated anywhere at all. Just gotta get lucky? Theres one multicoated one on ebay.   Also wondering if anybody had a picture comparison of the multicoated vs non multicoated?
  19. I am selling a mint AG-LA7200, 1.33 anamorphic. Can send photo's on request. Almost never been used. Just bought it myself but also was lucky to run into a nice iscorama 54 last week. (no, not from this forum) I am not looking for making any money on the lens Euro 1050,- (i even can show you the invoice) is what i payed (call me stupid  :P ) for it so if you think its worth it i can re-sell for that same price. Think this Panny will get dusty sitting on my desk and that would be a real shame
  20. Ok, so after receiving my adaptor a few weeks ago... I've created an unscientific review of the Lens Turbo for Canon FD on my nex 7 http://themartist.com/lens-turbo-canon-fd-review/   If you don't feel like reading the review, the bottom line is I am happy with it... even though It appears that those with more pixel peeping prowess are confirming that its inferior to the speedbooster. I still see many advantages using it for stills,  but I'm sure that the benefits may be even more useful for video purposes. This bring me to two main questions.   1. If there are any specific shots, or methods you'd like me to test either stills or video on the Lens Turbo - please let me know and I'll do my best. I have a canon fd 50mm 1.4 and 20mm 2.8 for the lens turbo.    2. What positive/negative impact will the speedbooster or lens turbo have on going the anamorphic route? What type of setup would be best, and how would one be able to have a nice compact (ish) setup to match the Nex's diminutive benefits. The dream is having an affordable small full-frame in the nex that is easy to travel with and may shoot some awesome anamorphic footage.    Appreciate any input or questions from either Andrew or the rest of you guys.
  21. Hello Everybody, i'm new here as new to anamorphic shooting and almost shooting in general, I made this vid during holidays with my son and girlfriend in a friends house in ardeche in france, just to have a trace of it. http://player.vimeo.com/video/66394467   Don't go to hard on me, i know these are "trees and shit" :), but that is all i got to shoot. I would like some advices as i'm really liking to shoot stuff, i made some motion design before and my job is to create websites, but i would like to try to make some music vids (with an idea of course not just shooting random stuff). So go on with questions and comments i'm ready arms spread wide open !      As for the technical part, it was shot on a GH3 with "eclatant" profile so i suppose it's vivid in english, way too sharp... Looks weird and camcoder like to me, stupidly i just forgot to go back on my personalised "flat" setting as i gave the camera to my girlfriend to make some photos and she told me they looked "sad and flat :)". I used a canon FD 50 f1.4. The timelapses are made with the well known stock 14.140. The supercinelux is a pain to focus on such small screen like the one on the gh3, and more when it's all streched, so i was thinking to get a external screen or a loupe with a anamorphic function. You'll see some flare porn, i really like the flares from this lens. It's very sharp when focused properly, and as i see it's works really nice from 2 or 3 meters. So i think that's all. Hope to hear lot's of critics :), i'm happy to finally be on this forum. See you soon bye!
  22. Hello there, Anyone knows, have tested or seen tests of an anamorphic resolution (1440x1080) on the 5D mk2 for use with a 2x adapter? What I´ve read so far is that 5d wont go bigger than 1880x840 but what about other resolutions considering anamorphics. From what you´ve seen so far, would you recommend switching back to the mk2 from a hacked gh2 in terms of image quality, colors, low light etc...? Thanks
  23. Hey guys I'm new here.   I recently came upon a Helios 44-2 58mm prime lens and have been very impressed with it's unique character, image quality and sharpness even wide open, especially for the very reasonable price of £4 uk sterling, and it's de-clicked preset type aperture is ideal.   I'd like to complement it with a couple more vintage primes, one around 85mm and the other around 28mm.  I shoot a lot of HD DSLR professionally and often find myself in poorly lit, indoor "rock up and shoot" situations, so the priority for me is to have glass that is fast and stays relatively sharp when wide or close to wide open. The flatter the better in terms of contrast and saturation and flare is a positive in my book.   I currently have a cheap cosina 28mm f2.8 which is average in every respect, and have nothing longer than the Helios other than slower zooms. I know fast and sharp generally means £££££££ and I cannot currently afford quality brand new primes.  I prefer older lenses anyway as I hate not having a manual aperture ring, so I was hoping you guys might have come across a few little vintage gems that might float my boat, preferably under the £150 mark.   I've seen some very nice images from the Jupiter-9 85mm, quite similar in character to the Helios, and they're right on the money, but most reviews suggest that they get very soft when opened up and I'm concerned that I wouldn't get good use out of it for this reason.    Can anybody help me out in my quest for the holy grail in bargain vintage glass?   Cheers dudes.
  24. Like to share this short film which is part of a larger project. Shot with GH3, slrmagic 35mm and Kowa 8Z. https://vimeo.com/65543988
