  1. Hello everyone, here is a quick and non scientific comparison between the Iscorama 1.33X very rare version (taht I have just for this past week end) and my baby hypergonar 1.75X.     <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/61788864" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe> <p><a href="http://vimeo.com/61788864" Iscorama 36 non MC 1.33X version Pentax Takumar 55mm f2 Pentax mount   VS    baby Berthiot Hypergonar   1.75X version   Contax Zeiss Planar 45mm f2 Contax G mount   on GH3 natural mode 1080 50P light craft ND variable filter Tokina 0.5 diopter
  2. Hello fellow lens gurus, I've been looking to buy some kind of start lens, to what will hopefully soon be my anamorphic lens collection. I tired to buy a set of oct-19 lomos over the summer but was endlessly outbid. I'm a canon 5dmk3 and canon l series glass owner, and have wanted to adapt or better yet, actually own anamorphic primes that work on a full frame sensor without dual focusing or piggybacking lens together. I found this on eBay today but don't know much about this lens other than its a later isco and is multi coated. The nice thing seems to be that it already is equipt with and canon lens mount, but I'm not sure if this 50mm lens will cover the full frame sensor on the 5d3. http://www.ebay.com/itm/130864721991?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Take a look and let me know your thoughts before I consider plopping down 2gs. Thanks for your help as always guys!!

  5. I am new to the anamorphic arena - and I have some questions regarding workflow for you experienced and professional anamorphic guru's.    Firstly, here's the gear I'm using:   Canon 5D Mark 3 Canon 85mm 1.2 II ISCO 1.75x   Editing with Final Cut Pro 7   My first question is:    Aspect Ratio:  What is the correct aspect ratio for a 1.75x ISCO.  I'm confused as to how to calculate 16:9 with a 1.75x zoom... does this mean that my aspect ratio is 2.35:1?    My second question: What is the proper workflow in order to edit anamorphic footage in fcp?  For example, once I've exported the H.264 footage recorded at 1080i24p into FCP, how do I squeeze the footage in order to use all the precious pixels at 16:9 with a 1.75x zoom?   My third question: Focusing.  Is it normal to not be able to focus my prime lens (manually) when the ISCO is attached?  It seems that I have to remove the ISCO lens in order to adjust focus.  Maybe there's something I'm missing with regards to the electronic mechanisms of the camera/lens that don't work with the ISCO?    I have more questions, but these would be incredibly helpful if someone can help me with these questions.    Thank you in advance!
  6. Hi everyone    I´m a young video director from Madrid-spain, (www.MauriDGaliano.com)   I want to share with this great community my passion for  vintage Anamorphic Lenses.   I´ve been reading this forum a lot of times, but is the first time that i write something.   Allow me the honor to share my last Anamorphic video, a Drum cover for the Artist "Deivhook",the best Drummer in Spain.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13zPG1ebHlo     I shoot this video with my basic set: Panasonic GH2 Flowmotion v2.2 + fd50mm 1.8 + Bolex Anamorphot 16/32 1.5x.   The Bolex is the little girl of all my lenses...the "jewel of the crown",   The  rare 1.5x ratio suits perfect for almost everything, and its super-easy to make the double focus with it, in this video theres no flares, but this lens have the best flares  i´ve seen. Flare sooo easy, blue-deeply flares like Panavision C series. Mindblowing.   Now i have a clamp, from VidAtlantic, but im interested in upgrade to Redstan, i´ve seen that redstan have a custom Clamp for the little brother of my lens, the 8/19 1.5x, And im asking myself if he has one custom clamp for my lens.   Someone can give me the contact of Redstan?   I hope that you enjoy the video!   If someone have a question about the lens, ask me!   PD: I already knows that i suck writing in english, sorry!
  7. Hey there! Also posted this here to get others opinions on my situation!   I'm Matej, a filmmaker from Slovenia, and I am slowly trying to get into the anamorphic video shooting, since I love the classic cinema look, that can be achieved. But since no one in Slovenia is actually shooting anamorphicly, it is almost impossible to find any anamorphic lens here in Slovenia. Somehow, luckily, a friend of mine, who collects vintage lenses, happens to have some anamorphic lens which he is willing to sell some of them to me. Now here is the main situation: He has some rathenowers 48/2x and 80/2x, and the 2 versions of Isco Gottingen Anamorphotic 2x kiptars, one with the focus ring and 2 of the versions without one.   One without: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sicovdplas/ One with it: http://cameramate.com/images/s_15909.jpg   I am now asking for advice, which one of the 2 versions would be easier to use with a DSLR (in my case 600D and a 7D)? I suspect, that the focusless version is easier, because I can just focus with my lens, if I get a couple of close up filters.   Another problem is that the 2 focusless versions have lots of dust in the lens itself so I'm wondering if that is a huge dealbreaker or can it be cleaned?   Cheers!
  8. As new. Really good anamorphic. Very sharp!   http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290849706147
  9. Hello to you all,   another issue with the anaorphic lenses. I am a newbie to these stuff. I recently bought an anamorphic lens (Meopta Anagon 2x80) in order to practice for my forthcoming shooting. The issue that I am facing is that when I shoot between 1m-2,5m the picture is blur and completely useles. The problem seems to dissapear when I shoot 3m and beyond. Please advice any solution and why that happens. For your info, before anamorphic I use a prime 58mm f1,4.
  10. With a little luck, Goat Man's Hill will be going into pre-production on our next feature in the next couple months.  In all likelihood I'm going to shoot most of it with "Moon Trial 3" and anamorphic.  A good deal of it will be available light and night in urban spaces.  The basis for my finishing pipeline will be After Effects, Film Convert and ColorGHear.     I've started roughing out various recipes for how the footage will flow through the pipeline, mainly dealing with NR and then the right balance of grain to put back in.  At some point I may investigate ColorGHear Pro's grain layers instead of this portion of Film Convert.   http://vimeo.com/60359953     This is a boring test video. If you don't like boring videos testing very specific settings, software combinations or techniques, keep moving.   That said, it does have a cat!   Seriously, there's a lot of excitement re: Driftwood's "Moon Trial 3", especially where 24P is concerned. After doing a snoop on ISO noise between 12500 - 160 I was blown away by how clean ISO640 is with this patch. I wanted to shoot a high contrast, available light scenario to not only play with NR but also different techniques and levels of simulated film grain (via Film Convert). The irony in this is not lost on me, hah-hah.   I output three versions of a pan + dolly. In all three scenarios I'm using Film Convert for my basic "emulsion pass" but with grain turned down to 0% (I knew I'd be applying it later). Each version also uses ColorGHear to give it a slight grade (switching off any cinegamma nodes because this function is provided by Film Convert).   All three versions use the "GHrain Killer" GHear to smooth out the chroma noise. Because this also filters out detail and sharpness in the luminance portion of the image I use the NR on a layer I just intend to use for its color. All three versions also use the technique I standardized on for SICK BOY to enhance small contrast and detail without the false edging you get very quickly with typical sharpening kernels and still rather quickly with the Unsharp Mask tool.   Lens Used: 35mm f/1.4 Nikkor + Century Precision Optics 1.33X Anamorphic   *1st Pass* ...I combine the "grainkilla" smoothed chroma with an original, unfiltered luma and 42% grain over the entire image.   *2nd Pass* ...I leave out the original luma, passing through the filtered luma and then depending on my LCE (local contrast enhancement) pass to re-establish an acceptable level of detail (still enhanced versus the original). The result is sharp edges and the ability to make out tiny textures like on the wall, the material on the chairs, etc. but also exceptionally smooth looking blacks even when I blow out the exposure to see "what's down in there". This version also has a uniform 42% grain applied to the whole frame.   *3rd Pass* ...in this one I do everything I did in the second pass but this time I create a luminance key with a "bell" shaped response that gives me all the mid tones while rolling off both shadow and highlight region and grain is applied through this key (this is based on an article I read interviewing the DP and colorist re: an episode of HOUSE that was shot all on the 5D where they discuss applying grain in this way). This allowed me to bump up the grain to 77% yet the net result doesn't feel as overall noisy as the previous two examples.   Oh, and 4' of dolly track just isn't enough.
  11. Hi guys , today we did quick test  with Nikon D5200 , Samyang 85mm f/1.4 and Carl Zeiss Anamorphot 63x2 . Unfortunately after few minutes  we had some issue with SD card . https://vimeo.com/59931000
  12.   My question is : with that kind of result, do I need a GH3 and mainly an Iscorama 36 ? I'm not so sure now for the Isco ;) Could it be better with the 0.4 achromatic diopter ? Please tell me your opinion :)   https://vimeo.com/59844561   GH1 hacked 720P 50 baby Berthiot Hypergonar anamorphic lens 1.75X Planar 45mm f/2  Hartbley Super-Rotator tilt and shift 80mm f/2.8 lens Tokina 0.5 diopter Light Craft variable ND filter   Premiere pro CS6 light CC (levels)   Maybe the ultimate combo for the baby Hypergonar anamorphic lens : the Planar 45mm f/2. As least for me. I've found for a reasonable price this Planar lens that I used to have few years ago on my Contax G1 rangefinder. I had great memories on that lens and sold it a few years ago for money reasons. Here it backs, for 200€. Popular Photography magazine said in 1994 that it is the sharpest lens ever made. Effectively this lens is very sharp, also at f/2. So I decide to test it with my (new, again) baby Berthiot Hypergonar 1.75X anamorphic lens, a very small and light (51,7 grams !!!!). For the close up I used my new Tokina 0.5 diopter. I just watched the export of this movie on my TV and I'm very pleased of the result, no vignetting, no distortion, and very sharp result to my opinion, with the Tokina in the close shot, and without in the wide shot. The very firsts shots (with the blurry corners) have been taken with a tilt and shift lens, the Hartblei Super-Rotator 80mm f/2.8 (Nikon mount). It is miraculously working with the baby Hypergonar, small vignetting when the lens is tilting, because it's a 80mm... It's hard to use because it was for me the very first time shooting with a tilt and shift lens. I surely have to practice, that's why I edited just few shots.    All this was shot with my old hacked GH1 in 720P. I've received few days ago the new GH3. I will do test with this combo soon. But the GH1 is still in the race !    music : Masked Ball (Jocelyn Pook) from Eye's Wide Shut soundtrack.
  13. Bought kowa 16-s on ebay and faced the situation, that there is not so much info on this lens over internet. So, my first tests. Shot in technicolor cinestyle.   http://vimeo.com/58606594
  14. I have this old anamorphic lens. I don't know nothing about it! On front it sais: Totalvision serie IV Titres Can somebody help me and tell me how good it is, is it valueable, sharp...?   Thank you!
  15. You maybe know I have sold my baby Hypergonar in a combo with Voigtlander 40mm...    Now I have a new anamorphic set I have to introduce to you :    Carl Zeiss Planar 45mm f/2 (some people say the best 35mm lens ever made) + my new baby Hypergonar (sorry guys, I swear I don't have an "baby Hypergonar tree") + Tokina 0.5 diopter   I've shot some clip today and the result are really promising ! Movie soon, stay tune :)   and the cherry on the cake... A friend of mine loan me a 80mm f2.8 Hartbley Super Rotator Tilt Shift lens... I try quickly the baby hypergonar on it and it seems to work, without vignetting in the TS operations ! I will do some video tomorrow :)     Hartbley Super Rotator Tilt Shift lens 80mm f2.8 (left) + Contax G Carl Zeiss Planar 45mm f2 with baby Hypergonar Berthiot + Tokina 0.5 diopter anamorphic lens 1.75X (right)   Hartbley Super Rotator Tilt Shift lens 80mm f2.8 with baby Hypergonar Berthiot anamorphic lens 1.75X + Tokina 0.5 diopter anamorphic  (left) + Contax G Carl Zeiss Planar 45mm f2 (right)   Hartbley Super Rotator Tilt Shift lens 80mm f2.8 with baby Hypergonar Berthiot anamorphic lens 1.75X + Tokina 0.5 diopter anamorphic (left) + Contax G Carl Zeiss Planar 45mm f2 (right)   Hartbley Super Rotator Tilt Shift lens 80mm f2.8 with baby Hypergonar Berthiot anamorphic lens 1.75X + Tokina 0.5 diopter anamorphic (left) + Contax G Carl Zeiss Planar 45mm f2 (right)   Contax G Carl Zeiss Planar 45mm f2 with baby Hypergonar Berthiot + Tokina 0.5 diopter anamorphic lens 1.75X
  16. Hi!    I wanted to try to learn to shoot with anamorphic lenses.    I have Andrew´s guide, but i´m not sure what to do in post with the footage?   I got a Sankor 16F attached with a clamp to a Canon 50mm 1.4 FD on a GH2.   Do i need to do anything on the camera before i start shooting? I use Final Cut Pro X in post, but im not sure how to handle the anamorphic footage?   Can any of you experts out there point me in the right direction?   Thanks.
  17. Hello all.     I was curious if anyone has tested the Bolex 8/19/1.5X Anamorphot with a Canon 5D mark III.  Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've only found evidence of the lens paired with the GH2, 7D and BMCC.  Many thanks in advance for any help on this topic.
  18. ###SOLD### to a member of EOSHD community ;)         UPDATE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I'm about to put again for sale my baby Berthiot Hypergonar on Ebay tomorrow, but before I'm proposing it here, so you can have at this price, without bid on it :   700€ for the baby Berthiot Hypergonard, the one I'm using for all the movies you can see below   1100€ for the all anamorphic set I'm talking about below   Please PM, don't mis this opportunity !!!!!!!   Tomorrow it will be too late !   Shipping cost with insurance : 20€   Seb Farges         For sale anamorphic set baby Berthiot Hypergonar 1.75X + Voigtlander Classic 40mm f1.4   http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110998900533#ht_1370wt_1341   This is a huge opportunity to have the legendary baby Hypergonar, a very rare tiny anamorphic lens, only 52 grams (!!!), who gives beautiful cinemascope images with the Voigtlander. You are ready to shoot in stunning cinemascope image on your micro 4/3 camera !!!!   The set is composed of :   1- baby  Berthiot Hypergonar 1.75X anamorphic lens 2- Voigtlander Classic 40mm F1.4 pancake lens in M mount   3- M mount to Micro 4/3 adapter 4- F clamp 52mm thread + 2 spacers with 52mm thread + replacing additional spacer for using the Hypergonar on other lens than the Voigtlander, with 52mm thread 5- step up ring 43mm-52mm (to go from Voigtlander to the clamp) 6- 39mm neutral filter (screwed on a 39mm filter without glass scotch taped on the Hypergonar)   7- step up ring 39mm-52mm 8- L.C.W ND variable filter 52mm 9- Diopter 52mm filter Nikon +0.7   As you can see in this set, you are ready to shoot, the variable ND filter allowed you to shoot at 1/50 in video, with the diopter you can focus around 70 cm (2,3 feet) and without, it depends of the aperture you will choose, but let say between 1 meter (3.2 feet) and 3 meters (9.8 feet) to infinity. There is also an additional spacer (that replace the two two other spacers) then you can use the anamorphic on other lens with 52mm thread. The Hypergonar works from (some of) 35mm lenses, then up, without vignetting. No vignetting with the Voigtlander 40mm, very slight vignetting at closed aperture (f11, f16).   All my films are in this album : https://vimeo.com/album/1834786   examples in the album below :   on the Voigtlander 40mm f1.4: https://vimeo.com/42652326 https://vimeo.com/43152755   on the Fujian : https://vimeo.com/31015180 https://vimeo.com/29881958   on the SLR Cine 0.95 : https://vimeo.com/41526220   on the Canon FD : https://vimeo.com/39510554   and here is two exclusive movies :    password : lac https://vimeo.com/50931963   password : 501 https://vimeo.com/49723682   The Voigtlander is a very good 40mm pancake lens, it's like new. With the 43mm-52mm step up ring included, you can use it alone with 52mm filters.   The Hypergonar begin to be sharp from f2.8, very good at f4 and perfect at f5.6. With the diopter you can shoot at f1.4 with sharp result. It's in good condition due to its age. Very tiny dust, no haze. I'm filming with the baby Hypergonar for month now, and I can tell you this is such a good lens. You can watch all the test I've done with it in the link bellow. As you can see I've tried it on several lenses (Fujian 35mm f1.6, Canon FD 50mm f1.8, Holga Lomo f8, SLR Magic Cine lens 50mm f0.95 and Voigtlander 40mm f1.4) and the combination with the Voigtlander is the ultimate set for me. 1.75X squeeze is also perfect, wider than the common 1.5X, and not to much wider than the 2X anamorphic lens. I apply 57,14% scale in Adobe Premiere.   The baby Hypergonar gives very beautiful anamorphic flares and stretched bokeh.   A useful comment from Alan about this Berthiot 1.75X anamorphic lens : "you have the smallest hypergonar lens ever made and one of the last designs of the great french man. Professor Henri Chrétien signed over the rights to his fantastical optical invention Hypergonar to Twentieth Century-Fox in 1952,he was legally bound not to develop commercial scope lens or work with any other studios. or sell the optics commercially. This beauty was the only tiny amateur cinemascope lens he could legally make and could only be sold in france and her colonies  it was made for amateur standard 8mm film cameras. his friends at the Société technique d'Optique et de Photographie (s.t.o.p). At first said it was impossible to scale a cinemascope lens down to this size, and make a usable system. Chrétien went too work and made this tiny gem a beauty. A work of genius. In the late 70s early 80s a supply of spare lens where found and and added too fuji single 8 plastic pocket size film cameras many of these lens would have been thrown in the dustbin in the late 1980s with the standard 8 and single 8 cameras, with the rise rise of video : ( so are now quite rare. i am glad the lens has gone home too france : )" "Me too ! :)"   You won't regret that perfect anamorphic lens for your micro 4/3 camera (Panasonic GH1, GH2, GH3, Olympus….). It worth any penny !!!!
  19. Hello! I'm searching for the Iscorama focusable anamorphic 1.5x adapter. Is anyone have any suggestion now? Also I like Bolex Moller 16\35 1.5x. Wait for your answers! Thanks!
  20. Hi.  I thought folks might be interested in a quick test I did with my new 1d-c and a 8mm baby hypergonar in NYC's Times Square.  See: https://vimeo.com/57974707
  21. I have started doing documentary work in China, which requires a small form factor. This is why I am reluctantly parting with my rather nice anamorphic set.    The total price for all components together is £1300, excluding shipping. While the price is negotiable please note that I am only selling the whole set, not the individual components.    Panasonic AG-LA 7200 (£700); in mint condition. For serious buyers I am happy to provide a link to two password protected anamorphic videos which I shot with this set on the GH2 in May 2012.   I have attached the Cinetactics Matteblox Anamorphic (£150) onto the AG-LA 7200, it is rock solid and includes the lens shade, carrying case and carabiner.   I have used velcro to fit a Panasonic 138mm filter retainer (£50) into the Cinetactics Matteblox. Those familiar with diopter size issues will know that this amazing size is unique and very hard to come by.    It is fairly easy to fit one of the three Tiffen 138mm +0,5, +1, +2 diopters (£400 for all three) into the Panasonic 138mm filter retainer.   If I do not find a buyer by the end of December 2012 the whole set will go on offer on ebay in January 2013.    Contact: a_fulda@yahoo.com
  22. Recorded with Baush & Lomb and Isco Kiptar adapters, maybe some of you will find this useful. Had to split in 2 volumes because of a limit of 10 files per pack at Videohive, the second is still on queue for approval.   http://videohive.net/item/real-anamorphic-flares-vol1/3771634?ref=SkinnyOldMan   Cheers
  23. https://vimeo.com/55892502   I posted this over in the screening room, but I wanted to show all the anamorphic guys and gals as well.    Lots of fun and really easy to make this one:)   Trey
  24. Seb Farges has been posting videos shot with this lens for quite a while now. I thought that it was impressive so I picked one up for myself. I believe that it may be the smallest anamorphic lens in the world. It is TINY. It's an interesting little beast (completely different from it's grandfather, the Hi-Fi 2) but I think that the footage has a nice, soft look to it! The Baby Hypergonar seems to work best in broad daylight between f8 and f16, but with the +0.4 achromat attached, I can take it all the way down to f1.8 on my Konica AR 40mm and still have pretty sharp results (and a five-foot rackable range that expands as I stop down). I should mention that there is no focus ring. You just shoot through the anamorphic. The lens vignettes very slightly on a 35mm lens (MFT), and the image bends at the sides ala wide angle a little much for my taste. At 40mm, I think that it looks good. And of course, 50mm works well too. Someone recommended trying it with a Nikkor 55mm Micro, which I did, but I was not impressed -- the extended barrel of that lens makes for a great place to conceal a tiny anamorphic like this, but you just can't get the anamorphic close enough to the taking lens. The flares seem to be soft, streaky blue and segmented white (or sometimes both at the same time). I find them to be very pleasing. The 1.75x crop vs the 2x crop that is a characteristic of so many other lenses is surprisingly more manageable, though I do find myself often shooting distorted, without an external monitor, just to have easy access to the magnified focus assist. Here's some footage that I shot this past weekend with this lens (attached to my Konica):   http://vimeo.com/45483904
