My cameras and kit

1. Hi everyone, I've been using the iFocus from Gini Rigs for a couple of weeks now and I just thought I had to share my opinion about using it. First of all, it's a nice follow focus, it's got hardly noticeable backlash and offers smooth focusing. The main disadvantage in my opinion is its size. It's really big and looks somewhat silly on my GH2 rig, but it does the job right when used properly. So how to get the most out of it? Well, out of the box, it has it's focusgear on the right side, closest to your camera, which is very common for follow focuses. But due to it's size, it will get in the FOV of (smaller) wide angle M43 lenses (<14mm). It also won't allow the use of sunhoods, because of the small space between the gearbox and gear, the gearbox will hit the hood before the focusgear can slip into lensgear. So the first thing I did was switching the gear from the right to the left side. You'll just need two small hex keys (I think its 2 and 3mm) to do this. But after this, the follow focus will block the view of the FL and DOF markings on the lens, and will make it harder to adjust aperture when having a manual aperture ring. To solve this little problem I attached the 15mm connecter to the other side of the rig, so a large part of the FF will be under the lens. You can rotate the gearbox, so the wheel will be vertical again. So this is my opinion on using this follow focus, just thought to share it with you. Any tips or recommendations are welcome.
2. Hello everyone, I'm relatively new here considering my post count, but I've been reading these forums for quite a long time now and I'm at the brink of buying a Panasonic GH2. So first of all, which kit to buy? I think I will use this camera mainly for run and gun docu/event shoots (low-light?!), but I like to do some pseudo-artistic hobby shoots from time to time as well. I thought of these options; 1. GH2 with 14-140mm kit and a Voigtländer 25mm. 2. GH2 body (or with the 14-42mm, as there's not much of a difference in price) with a Rokinon/Samyang 24mm and 35mm cine lens. Or should I wait for a longer focal length cine lens as 24 and 35mm do not make such a huge difference for a starter kit, right? Both kits end up being somewhat in the same price range, but I'm a little bit concerned with investing a lot of money in a M43 lens collection, that's why I added option 2. I also like the Cine-versions of the Rokinon lenses, as they've got click-less aperture and follow-focus gears (I already have a Gini rig with Follow Focus). With the Voigtländer being a F0.95 lens and the Rokinon a T1.4, is it a night and day difference in lowlight? (If you'll pardon the pun and ignore the lowlight performance of the GH2 in general). Second question, filters. Should I buy a 77mm variable ND (with step-up rings of course) or should I invest in a mattebox with 4x4 filters. Which of these two options will bring me longterm value for money and convenience? What are their pros and cons? Well, thanks for reading. Jon
3. So I just got my extreme 17 rig from http://www.ginirigs-usa.com/75-new-extreme-17-follow-focus-weight.html and I couldn't be happier! I have heard many good and bad things about gini so did my research about them before ordering. Found they had a new site and brought of there (one listed above) and was surprised that it came in just 3 days from Korea. So it came all in one small box all seperatley packaged as you can see from the photo below. Wasnt quite sure how it went together but just checked a photo out from the site and after a while I got it together. The quality of the parts is just insaine. I have used and owned a few other rigs in my time but nothing even comes close to how good this is made. And the best thing was, this is the cheapest rig I have ever brought! I have another rig at the moment but was very curious about Gini so I got this one. I think i am happy to say I will be selling my other rig now because it doesnt compare at all. I payed $399 for the extreme 17 in their sale and $85 postage. Pretty steep postage but for under $500 this is the best thing I have brought. Anyone else had any experiences with them?
