3. Hi everyone, Recently I found a class 10 SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s card at a local store and snatched it up because it was really cheap. I've heard great things about this one and so I thought I'd give it a try in my hacked GH1. I have been using the "100Mbps Max-latitude" patch with a cheap class 10 PNY 20MB/s card and haven't had to many issues. In fact, the only time I ran into an issue is when I tried to run a 720p GOP-1 patch. Had to take the battery out a few times that day. So, I was hoping that with a better card, I could try upping the bitrate even higher or trying out the GOP-1 patch again. Well, I got the card home and it failed right off the bat without even upping the rate. I worked on and worked on it and finally got it to work with a disappointingly lower bitrate patch. I wanted to try and get to the bottom of this little issue because it seems like a lot of other people have run into something like this too. Some class 10 cards work while others don't. Some times it really is down to manufacturing standards but I have a hunch it might actually be UHS-1. From what I've been led to believe it's not actually supported on the GH1/GH2. To make matters worse, it seems that these cards might even run at lower speeds. So I think a poll is in order. Please take a moment and help me suss this out. It might turn out to be nothing but it will be great to at least tick this one off the list anyway. :-) Thanks!
4. This last weekend I shot some footage at a local import tuner car show. Because I haven't got my lens splint yet I went with the 14-42mm kit as my taking lens. I have a nice set of Nikkors adapted to my GH2 but walking around in a crowded place with that much weight stressing the camera body didn't seem like a good idea. All but maybe two shots were at 18mm and roughly F4 which meant I didn't need to attach my Tokina. It's also worth noting I haven't enhanced the footage and this was with currently un-hacked firmware. The very slight softness and chromatic aberration at the edges of frame actually looks quite nice to me. In many ways the results remind me of Panavision films from the '70s and '80s (ie. John Carpenter). ...I love, love, love this lens.
5. Hello everyone, I'm relatively new here considering my post count, but I've been reading these forums for quite a long time now and I'm at the brink of buying a Panasonic GH2. So first of all, which kit to buy? I think I will use this camera mainly for run and gun docu/event shoots (low-light?!), but I like to do some pseudo-artistic hobby shoots from time to time as well. I thought of these options; 1. GH2 with 14-140mm kit and a Voigtländer 25mm. 2. GH2 body (or with the 14-42mm, as there's not much of a difference in price) with a Rokinon/Samyang 24mm and 35mm cine lens. Or should I wait for a longer focal length cine lens as 24 and 35mm do not make such a huge difference for a starter kit, right? Both kits end up being somewhat in the same price range, but I'm a little bit concerned with investing a lot of money in a M43 lens collection, that's why I added option 2. I also like the Cine-versions of the Rokinon lenses, as they've got click-less aperture and follow-focus gears (I already have a Gini rig with Follow Focus). With the Voigtländer being a F0.95 lens and the Rokinon a T1.4, is it a night and day difference in lowlight? (If you'll pardon the pun and ignore the lowlight performance of the GH2 in general). Second question, filters. Should I buy a 77mm variable ND (with step-up rings of course) or should I invest in a mattebox with 4x4 filters. Which of these two options will bring me longterm value for money and convenience? What are their pros and cons? Well, thanks for reading. Jon

7. Hello everyone, I first heard of the gh2 and anamorphic lenses on this blog and I got curious. After reading and reading I finally decided to take the leap and ordered one. Although I'm not new to images from my post-production trade I am new to film making and it's fascinating. I'll share the videos of my journey in this thread, there is a complete rundown of each vid on vimeo if you are interested. I should get my anamorphic clamps and diopter next week, can't wait to get them and finally try my anamorphic lens! :) Looking forward to hearing your thoughts thanks http://vimeo.com/46627432 http://vimeo.com/46683852
8. Hey all, Here's my first music video shot with the Panasonic GH2. I've done several with the 60d, and working with the GH2 was a serious step up. Such crisp images! :) Numerous vintage primes were used for various scenes, as well as a Glidecam HD1000, and even my Kowa Anamorphic for a few of the "sun shots" although I kept the image squeezed. This one was pretty tough to edit, I could only go four about 4 hours at a time before becoming too queasy. Still though, I think it turned out pretty good. FWIW, the audio mix was by Fredrik Nordstrom & Henrik Udd. If you're into metal that might mean something :)
9. Hi everyone, I have a chance to pick up a Panasonic GH1 body for $350 (US). I already have lenses from my other cameras so I'll just use an adaptor. I'm wondering what the major differences are between the GH1 and GH2? Is it still a viable choice? From what I've gathered, the color is a little less saturated and it's not as good in low light. Any other features that I might miss from the GH2? Also, I noticed that there are not as many patches available for it. Is that just because the GH2 cut off the GH1 patch development or is it because the GH1 isn't as hackable? Thanks for you help guys, I really appreciate it!
10. Can anyone tell me what is causing the horizontal banding at the top of the wall outside of the bedroom in these two shots? I was testing a steady cam today and noticed my Gh2 (24p, flowmotion hack) was showing these horizontal bands along the top. Yes, I've had trouble with the already much discussed High ISO/Underexposed area (mine shows up as low as 400 ISO) and thought I would try the same work around...shoot at a shutter speed of 30. Didn't help, the first photo was with a SS of 30, the second is with a SS of 50. The banding looks different, but is clearly there on both. Part of me is hoping it has to do with the light coming in from the windows and reflecting off the lens...but I don't think that's it. Anyone had anything similar. Getting REALLY frustrated with all the crap that keeps popping up trying to shoot with this camera. Every time I think I'm getting used to the work arounds, something else comes up. I REALLY hope panasonic has read some of these forums and correct all of this banding issue in the GH3....it really makes the camera almost unusable in any kind of professional situation. Sigh. BTW...the pics are frame grabs from video...not still photos.
11. Could anyone tell me please if compatible batteries will work ok with the Panasonic GH2 with the latest firmware installed? I heard somewhere that Panasonic blocked the use of third party batteries with one of their firmware upgrades and I wondered if this information is correct? Is anyone using the compatible batteries from 7dayshop.com?
12. I finally got some Anamorphic footage, rather than just tests. Here's my footage of EMKE Hawaii performing at Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu. I only have 2 anamorphics (waiting for #3) so the I faked it by making the 5dmkIII super shallow DOF. Not the best option, but it fits in just fine. Please enjoy! 13. This trip cost me a GoPro. I didn't have an underwater housing and thought it could survive a couple splashes...nope. Luckily the footage survived.Awesome trip, though. We rented a Catamaran and circled the island, which is surprisingly barren outside the town of Avalon. It's about a 4 hr journey from Long Beach by boat. http://vimeo.com/47936990

16. Dear Andrew, Dear All, I am one of these fans visiting EOSHD.com every day, a couple of times and checking every update. So finally after purchasing my GH2 I decided to register to the EOSHD forum. Just finished university and now have some time to film with my brand new GH2. I am living in Germany and bought my GH2 from a Germany onlineshop. The serial number starts with WE1HA. Now as I have rad the EOSHD GH2 shooters guide and went out filming I discovered one really sad GH2 bug which I found out is well known. The horizontal darker line ind footage shot over ISO1000 and underexposed situations. Panasonic is aware of the problem and many users complain about this problem. http://vimeo.com/17281822 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/693/gh2-showing-fixed-darker-bandstripe-20-pixels-high-across-footage/p1 If you read all these posts you'll see, that each GH2 seems to have a problem with this issue. Andrew Reid, from reading sooooo many of your posts and articles I know you have some contact to Panasonic. Don't you think it is time to ask Panasonic to solve this problem and take back all the thousands of defective GH2s? I am so sad I just discovered this after my 2 weeks return policy expired. Now I have to live with this but maybe Panasonic could work around the problem? Any chance you could ask Panasonic for an official statement? Kind regards, Vincent
17. Shot this little doc promoting my band's upcoming release. Shot on my GH2 with the EOSHD Unified hack, mostly at 6400-12800 ISO. Internet compression kills me, but I still like how it came out. Check it!
18. Hi, I have a blog with self-hosted videos. One of the main functions of the blog is to be able to view videos on a mobile device like an iPhone 4s. I currently use the h.264 format with the "iPhone widescreen" preset on Adobe Encoder, which has the benefit of a small file size but the images tend to be muddy. Anyone have any export settings presets or tips for exporting videos to be viewed on mobile devices like an iPhone 4s or Android device? I am looking for a custom set-up that has better video image quality than the "iPhone widescreen" preset mixed with a reasonable file size for medium to fast load-up time for a 3G mobile network connection. My content: - I shoot all of the videos with the GH2 hacked high bitrate setting; - All of my videos are about 30 seconds to two minutes long, so encoding a 200-300MB file to around 30-40MB file size. Looking forward to any advice you have!!
19. Recently Singapore just opened the new gardens by the bay. And I decided to take my new GH2 for a spin. http://vimeo.com/46205226
20. My name is Taylor, im a student filmmaker in Sedona and have just recently switched to cinematography as my major. This is my first time posting on this site, however i have been following for a while (i own the GH2 shooters guide and anamorphic shooters guide). If i am posting in the wrong place, feel free to bump/ let me know how to fix. I am a new owner of the GH2 and have hacked it with the anamorphic hack in the anamorphic shooters guide. It works fantastic when i dont have a external monitor plugged in, shooting in beautiful 2.66:1 with an incredible bitrate. However, when i plug in my DP6 the gh2 automatically switches out of mjpeg (4:3) and into variable movie mode (16:9). Is there some setting i am missing? If anyone has any advice id appreciate it!
21. Hi I'm shooting a short over 4 days in England around October and looking to hire an Iscorama 36? The budget doesn't justify buying an Iscorama (plus they're a buggar to find!) Are there any owners in England who would rent their Isco 36 and clamp out to me? Also, out of curiosity, would people prefer the GH2 (Anamorphic hack with lomos?) setup or 7D (with Isco 36?) We have the option but can't find many good examples of the GH2 ana hack? Many thanks, James
22. Hey guys.. I need to hook up with some Panasonic buddies!!!! I have no body in the area who loves and shoots video like me. Its dead over here as far as filming and cinematography community.. 24. Hello all! New to here. Very excited about my new GH2 body. Apparently a lens is needed though. How about that? I purchased my GH2 mainly as a B-camera to use when shooting interview for close-up, beauty stuff to complement my medium wide (using the Panasonic AC130 as my A-cam), but hope to eventually learn to flex its muscles on more interesting stuff. I'm looking for some lens recommendations. These are kind of two separate questions, but what would be best for my needs and then what would be cheapest but workable? My research seems to point me to the Voigtlander 25mm, but it's a little pricey for me right now. I plan on getting the cheap kit lens (14-42) just for the purposes of learning the camera, but it seems the kit lenses aren't quite going to deliver me that nice shallow DOF look I'm hoping for. Any budget options that'll do the trick for me, putting it on a tripod and getting close up, blurry background, b-camera interview beauty stuff? Thoughts? Much appreciated. -Noah
25. I had this cage made for me by Berkey System. It uses mostly off the shelf parts except for the custom top plate and a modified baseplate that allows for the use of a Arca Swiss styled mounting system for the camera. The main drive behind this was that I wanted a cage that would allow me to easily remove the camera and use my GH2 for Photography work as well as videography work, or so that I could use the bare camera in a more discreet way if need be. To accomplish all of that, there were some compromises, but overall I'm happy with it because it checks the following boxes:

Camera secured at both mounting screw and hotshoe to prevent flex and rocking when using a follow focus.
Ability to quickly and easily remove the camera from the cage incorporating an Arca Swiss clamp inside the cage which would also solve my next wish:
Absolutely no camera twisting! I hate camera twisting!
Easy access to all camera controls, ports, battery door, etc while camera is mounted in the cage.
All holes spaced to the ARRI and RED standard to allow use of professional quality accessories.
A built in rail block that mounts the cage at the correct height above the rails and prevent the camera and the cage from rotating on the rail block. Have I mentioned I hate camera rotation?
A cage that will allow me to upgrade my camera without having to buy a new cage.
What do you guys think? There's more pics and more thorough write up on my blog: http://tvpglabs.com/2012/06/08/my-new-upgradeable-gh2-cage-from-berkey-system/
