My cameras and kit

  1. Hi i just bought the panasonic gh2 and I'm about to buy a voigtlander nokton lens.. just wondering which would be better - voigtlander nokton 25mm or voigtlander nokton 17.5mm? i would be using it primarily for video.. i understand the 17.5mm has clickless aperture ring but it's easier to focus in 25mm? any advice welcome!

  3. I have a GH2 and am working in Premiere Pro CS6 trying to find some of the settings I should use to export from the timeline.  I have Andrew Reid's GH2 book, but that only gives settings for Premiere Pro CS5, not 6, and there are some differences.   Thanks for the input!   [attachment=708:Screen Shot 2013-10-22 at 3.32.44 PM.png]
  4. Hi all,   I'm shooting a camera test for my upcoming short on a GH2, and I wanted to test with an SLR Magic 12mm T 1.6 Hyperprime, because of all the great reviews, and example footage I saw.  My test is during the day so I took notice of all the warnings to get a large ND filter to avoid vignetting.  I bought a Fader MkII Variable ND filter at a 77mm size, and then bought a 58/77mm step up ring for the SLR Magic Hyper Prime.   To my dismay, when I received the lens from my mail order lens rental place, without any filter and just shooting on the GH2, I saw some very undesirable distortion on the corners.  I sometimes like imperfections in classic glass, like my Canon FD primes, but this distortion I was seeing on the SLR Magic lenses was pretty unacceptable.  Also...I like flaring, but it seemed this lens in particular has some serious flaring "issues". Next I put my ND filter setup on the camera, and regardless of my larger ND Fader, I experienced pretty bad vignetting. Here's where my question comes.  I'm looking to get the equivelant of a 24mm focal length on my GH2.  The 12mm seems like the likely candidate, but I'm wondering a.  Do I have an damaged or defective lens, or b.  Is this the nature of the lens. If that is the case...does anyone have a good alternative to the Nokton SLR Magic 12mm?  I know the 12mm Olympus is talked about a lot and I also see a fair share of folks talking about the Tokina 11-16 zoom.   I may be running out of time, and may have to shoot on my Canon 5dmkII for this test, but ideally I really wanted to use my GH2, since I specifically bought it for video since I'm not a fan of the Canon look on video.   Any of your advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!!!
  5. Hi everybody,   To sell or not to sell? that is s the question.   i've noticed the drastic decline (or you can say almost now non-existing) love for GH2 on EOSHD the past year. It seems that Andrew really is no longer talking about it either. I have been shooting on GH2 for my personal work, and small jobs which has become a lot less lately due to my schedule.   I do own a 5d mkiii but it's original purpose has been for photography and the CF card prices and hassle of post production hasn't justified for me to start shooting in the format despite its low costs.   At my workplace or higher budget projects we have several RED Epics i have access to but it's not a camera you can always carry around with you.   Now the question is:   -GH2 Hack vs GH3. I see a lot of people raving about the GH3 but is it better than a hacked GH2?   -since i own several MFT lenses, should i goto a BMCC?   -or sell the entire GH2 and MFT system and get everything to get the 5DMKIII running RAW   Thanks ahead
  6. Hi!   I'm thinking about buying the "EOSHD Panasonic GH2 Shooter's Guide" but I have a GH3 and not a GH2. Is this going to be a significant problem for me if I buy the guide or is the advice included also applicable to the GH3? I suppose the two cameras are quite similar, but I am quite new in the world of DSLR filmmaking and I do not wish to be confused...   Thanks, anax276
  7. These music videos will not be to everyones taste, but heres a bunch of videos I've shot and edited on the GH3. My business uses 2 of these on a regular basis.    Lenses used are SLR Magic 12mm & 50mm, Panasonic 12-35mm and a bunch of Canon FDs (amazing!)   I hope it will be a nice break from all those wonderful test videos swarming Vimeo. 8. https://vimeo.com/72163697   I've been learning DaVinci Resolve to add to my video workflow. This is the first project that I graded with it. The footage was shot with the GH2 (Driftwood Cluster_v7), Voigtlander Nokton 25mm f/0.95 and Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 Series E.   Program used: Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve   There are many ways to do this. I figured out this workflow by reading the manual PDF and some tutorial videos. It works for me so far.   1. edit using MTS (from the GH2) in Premiere Pro (sequence01)  2. lock the edit 3. transcode used clips with 5DtoRGB to MOV (ProRes422(HQ), ITU-R BT.709, Full Range) for Resolve to grade (I tried to export XML from PP with MTS in timeline, then Resolve kept asking about missing video files. Looks like Resolve doesn't recognize MTS) 4. bring the transcoded MOV to PP and replace the edited MTS in timeline (sequence02). 5. export XML from PP 6. in Resolve, add the transcoded MOV to Media Pool 7. import the XML, uncheck "automatically add clips to media pool" 8. grade (time consuming) 9. export graded clips to ProRes422(HQ) MOV with unique names 10. go back to PP, import the graded MOV and replace the clips in the previous timeline (sequence03) 11. Retouch skin in some clips with AE, using the graded MOV 12. create motion titles 13. in PP, add extra adjustment and add titles made in AE.  14. I actually go back and forth between PP, AE and Resolve a few times to adjust the skin tone for consistency. But the way I set up files let PP and AE relink the clips automatically, which is nice.  15. fine-tune music 16. export the final movie in PP   It's really time consuming, but it worked for me. Again, this is my first attempt to incorporate DaVinci Resolve to my workflow. If there are only a few clips, I can grade first and edit. But a shoot like this has like 50+ clips, I have to edit first to know which ones to grade, therefore a workflow like this.   I wanted to share my steps and to see if there's any suggestions to improve the process.   P.S. The famous stair-step gradient in GH2 is something I have no idea how to fix.   Thanks for reading.
  9. Hi guys! I just wanted to give the heads up in case there's anyone interested in this (and I believe there is, considering how big the GH2 user base is here at EOSHD, the site that got me started!)   Here's the link: vimeo.com/ondemand/3737   At $2.99 it's very affordable, I think you should all give it a chance. I've already bought it but haven't watched it yet. "Musgo", in case you happen to be one of those who don't know, is a Spanish feature film shot entirely on the Panasonic GH2 with an early 44Mbps hack and three lenses (Tokina 11-16mm, Nikkor 28mm f2.8 and Nikkor 50mm f1.4 if I remember correctly) over the course of one week. It has awesome cinematography.   Gami Orbegoso (director, cameraman, editor, color timer, etc.) is very kind in sharing all the gear he used and other info on the shoot. There are a couple of behind the scenes that can be seen here, with several answers to many possible questions you might have on the making of the movie: https://vimeo.com/33456753 https://vimeo.com/57277710
  10. Hi, All!   Just thought I'd share some color grading that I've been fiddling with. I shot a bunch of footage at the local carnival a month back, and now I'm working on grading it for one of my personal music video projects.    I've used my own take on a bleach bypass process that simultaneously adds the teeniest touch of blue to the lows, then with a couple more nodes, I've tweaked exposure and of course that nasty red/orange/yellow/green zone of color that seems to always make or break skintones has had some subtle adjustments.   Lemme know what you think!   http://www.flickr.com/photos/68917223@N05/sets/72157634804640007/with/9375308962/

  12. There is a Pentax SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4 i have my eyes on for my Panny GH2. it has a has a 42mm Screw fr micro 4/3. I wanted to know whether this lens will fit any of these adapters with no issues?   http://www.ebay.in/itm/281067558863?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649     http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271159243669&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:IN:1123#ht_2128wt_1139     i have heard that these adapters with a a "rim" inside do not work with the SMC Tak and the ones without it work well. Does these adapter have a rim inside? If not i dont want to end up wasting money buying this lens and this adapter as i dont have any M 4/2 lenses. Thanks
  13. Hi, An excavation into the attic unearthed an old TOSHIBA COLOR VIDEO CAMERA ik-1900 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Owners-Manual-Toshiba-IK-1900-Color-Video-Camera-/230389930914) It has a Nikon TV-nikkor zoom macro 12.5-100mm 1:1.6 lens which i have unscrewed out of the camera and wish to use it on my Panny GH2 but have no clue what mount to use to do the same. I tried asking all the DP's and techies i know but they have no clue on the lens. Even google hasnt been able to help at all. Can someone who knows their lenses well share any info on this and recommend me a mount for this lens for my GH2? Links to the right mount or names will be much appreciated.

  16. As a result of a slight cash shortage I have decided to sell 2 of my most prized lenses. Yes it hurts ;)   - Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95 (SOLD) - Olympus M.Zuiko 12mm f/2.0   [attachment=562:voigt+olympus.jpg]   Both are extremely sought-after prime lenses for the Micro Four Thirds system. The Olympus is arguably the best wide-angle lens available for the GH2 and GH3, and the Voigtländer's reputation as a beautiful video and photography lens is well-deserved.   Both lenses are in perfect working order, with only a few minor cosmetic bumps. The glass is completely free of scratches, internal dust or fungus.   Lenses are on offer seperately or together with a generous discount ;) PM me for pricing & more photographs if you are interested! Or contact me at jack.versen@gmail.com.

 http://www.ulule.com/womanhattan/   PROJECT SUMMARY:
For 20 years (1993-2013), I got used to go with my girlfriends to New York, and set my love memories on film...
WOMANHATTAN is a film from my point of view as an obsessive director: the obsession of filming my girlfriends in New York, the obsession of magnifying them, the technological obsession of finding the camera shots that best reflected my feelings.
WOMANHATTAN is a trip back in time, before and after 9/11, where I take us to the heart of New York and its urban landscapes, my thoughts on the passing of time, on love and the possibility of being free one day from my obsessions, and living fully the present and my love life. To discover my world here is the teaser :   https://vimeo.com/31303587     And also on facebook :
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Womanhattan/308092392578172 I hope you find this project exciting and unique enough to be a part of it. Thank you! Seb Farges   https://vimeo.com/51028337
  18. I am not affiliated with Audio Developments, nor have I received payment in conjunction with this offer.   I posted this originally on BMCUser.com, but thought that you guys might also be interested?? Audio Developments are a UK based company that make ultra high end mixers that can usually be seen gracing sound carts of major motion pictures. They have recently produced a mini-mixer aimed at the thinner wallet but retaining the quality they are renowned for. This thing is a beast and it has been offered to us at a discounted rate as a part of a group buy. We have had an offer from Audio Developments. I will PM all members that show interest this deal. Please DO NOT PUBLISH THE PRICE ON THE FORUM. There is potentially quite a significant discount on offer and we don't want to upset ADs resellers. If you're interested, just post below. Remember. As with all the group buy offers I've been posting there is no obligation to buy by showing interest if you don't like the final offer price, you don't buy.. Simples. Also, could you please tell me the country you would want the mixer shipped to when expressing your interest. Thanks! Cheers! Owen
  19. Here are some stills from footage I shot this evening. I'll probably use it in the music visual for a song that I am writing.   Shot on GH2 with Driftwood's Moon T5 patch, through a Kowa 16-H, Tokina ATX 0.4 diopter and a Konica Hexanon 40mm, mostly wide open at f1.8.   http://www.flickr.com/photos/68917223@N05/sets/72157634273204895
  20. Hi all,   Sadly, its time for me to part with my SLR Magic 12mm f/1.6 Hyperprime Micro Four Thirds Lens. I simply haven't had the time to get the use out of this that I would like: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171063978961   My hope is that it goes to a good home :)   Let me know if you have any questions,   Adam
  21. https://vimeo.com/67606128 A summer day in a boring small town in the mid 90's.   This is my latest short film, and more or less the first narrative short I've done.   There are some minor dialog in Swedish, but you probably won't miss out if you don't understand. The story is mostly told with visuals.   It was shot on a Panasonic Lumix GH2 with the "SANITY" hack.   Shot on the following glass: Panasonic 14mm f2.5 Pancake Panasonic 14-140mm f/4-5.8 kit lens Helios 44M 58mm f2 Vivitar 28mm f2.5 Fujian 35mm f1.7 C Mount CCTV Lens from ebay   Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro. Color Grading in After Effects.
  22. http://vimeo.com/68443110   This is my new graphic, in animated form. I created and animated it in PowerPoint (I've been animating in PowerPoint since elementary school). I then played the animation on my Dell 30" monitor and recorded the monitor with my GH2, Kowa anamorphic, Konica AR 40mm and Tokina diopter all on a tripod. Then I moved the monitor out of the scene and recorded various flares with a flashlight. Brought it all together in Final Cut Pro, set the flares as additive layers, and added some grain overlay effect. I think the outcome is something clean-cut but with a dash of organic mojo that is difficult to achieve with an all-digital animation. There's no faking those real flares!
  23. Hello,   Here is a short that was shot last September that was recently finished. I did editing and some post production, it was written & directed by friend of mine.   Enjoy!   https://vimeo.com/68118350
  24. Nobody really cares about GH2 stuff anymore but I figured I'd post these here anyhow.  Anyway, while we're waiting on financing to materialize for our next feature, Tim and I decided to shoot a series of spec commercial spots to go after some cashflow business.    All of these were shot using the Flowmotion patch and graded with Shian Storm's ColorGHear Tools for AfterEffects, each one geting its own look.  They pretty much cover looks from mild to more extreme.  Two of them, the beer and the BBQ spot, passed through Film Convert prior to grading.   http://vimeo.com/65760215   http://vimeo.com/65845523   http://vimeo.com/65759064   http://vimeo.com/65754973   ...there's a fifth one I'm dragging my feet on with motion-graphics and VFX.  Focusing so much attention on shooting and learning more about cameras and playing around with grading and such it's actually hard staying motivated to work on tedious visual effects these days.  Oh well.   Anyway, we basically brainstormed quick, humorous concepts for each spot after coming up with a list of local or Texas-based brands.  Then we shot them all over a couple days, minus a couple pick up shots that I went out solo to get.
  25. Dear people! This is my new asian short film "Saga Seed" shot on gh2. Hope you like it! http://youtu.be/hqfcvAcvIt8   Support me if you like it :)
