My cameras and kit

  1. Hi everyone,   I'm posting this because I think it will genuinely be of interest to at least some of you, and I'm really hoping it isn't considered spam, because that is definitely not my intent.   I'm a DSLR filmmaker and I developed a cool little widget thing that I'm now making available via Kickstarter. It's called the Multiplate and it stays on your camera all day long, and lets you mount things like a monitor, 15mm rods, follow focus, matte box, handles, etc - without having to switch out to a totally different configuration. Just attach the pieces you need, take off the ones you don't and carry on shooting.   [attachment=500:The-Multiplate-sm.jpg]   There are only 10 days left on the Kickstarter and we're pretty close to the funding target. Take a look (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1822814480/the-multiplate-the-dslr-filmmakers-essential-mount) and see if it's something you might be interested in helping make a reality.   Thanks!
  2. Hi, I'm up to write my thesis in the next month. It's gonna be about the "newly" appeared filmmaker society between professionals and amateurs. They are far from amateur, but also doesn't have the luxury of a professionals budget. Let's just call them independent filmmakers. I would like to find out as much as i can about this new and very exciting uprising "movement".  What effects was made by the internet, torrent, tons of tutorials, DIY, youtube, vimeo, facebook, twitter, web2.0 (etc) on the filmmaking industry/art? What tendencies can we observe in the camera/film developer market in the past few decades? (red, arri, canon, bmc, sony etc) Since my thesis has to be 60 pages, and i have to use a lot of quotes from the literature I'm looking for any kind of help such as: opinion, experience, suggested literature, or any kind of useful source. So basically anything serious.   (I'm not new in this field, I'm working as a photographer and editor since 6 years or so, and in the past 1-2 years I have my own equipment for DSLR filmmaking. And also I'm a weekly-daily followers of this kind of sites, like EOSHD ... and some others more :) )   spoken languages: hungarian, english Thanks for your help! Adorján
  3. Hi Guys! Hey Andrew!    Nice to finally be on EOSHD.    I'm from Sydney, Australia and this is my first post! 4. Shot some small tests with the Iscorama on my d800 last week. Shot on D800 with the nikon 50mm 1.4D and Tokina +0.4 diopter and Hoya +1 diopter. I did the edit in premiere, grading in speed grade and second grade in nuke using some custom grading filters I made using filters from on set.   My site www.robbannister.com   Downloads page http://www.robbannister.com/downloads/   videos CC1 http://vimeo.com/64450588   CC2 http://vimeo.com/64464863   Hopefully I'll have some stuff really worth showing soon.   Rob
  5. I already have one (did a review on this forum here - not the advanced one) so thought i would share this to others.   Taken from their facebook "We are at it again! We are giving away another rig, this time our most popular setup, the Advanced Extreme 17 (worth $499 - http://ow.ly/kax4d). To be in for a chance, like our Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/GiniRig - and share this post or read the image for alternative ways."   A link to the Facebook post is here - https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=519380728126446&set=a.407518442646009.98779.400859699978550   And here is a link to the Tweet - https://twitter.com/GiniRigs2013/status/324647732327378944   Good Luck and if you win let me know :)   [attachment=474:EXTREME17 Giveaway.jpg]
  6. I am interested in doing more video, but feel very restricted by my cheap sanyo camcorder. I have a Sony a200 for still photography, and have managed to accumulate 1 sony and 3 minolta lenses. I don't have a wide angle lense, or a telephoto bigger than 300mm (35mm equivalent), but being able to use those lenses and having manual control of the camera would open the door to a great many more possibilities.   So: how good are current sony dslr's for video? I was eying the a57, which seemed to be able to do both still photos and video quite nicely.   But on the other hand, with the new blackmagic camera coming out, maybe it would make sense to save up longer and get that. Micro four thirds seems to be the lense mount of the future, and it would be nice to feel my lenses will be useful on future equipment. There is an adapter to convert the A mount to the E mount, but I have failed to find any which would adapt it to MFT..... dropping $1k for the camera alone would be a real stretch financially, I don't know how viable that option would be if I had to purchase new lenses for it as well....   Anyway, anyone have experience with the sony dslrs for video?
  7. Hi there,   I am currently working on a research project for my final year in university where I study film production.   The paper is called "The Evolution of the Cinema Camera" and will discuss the technological advancements within the cameras through the decades. In particular though it will focus on the move from 35mm film to digital.   For the project I have been talking to various D.O.P's and also camera companies such a Panavision, Arri and RED, and getting their opinions on the change from 35mm to digital.    However, with digital now the primary choice for shooting a film, companies such as Canon began creating DSLR's with video shooting capability and with that came a new type of film making. It is this type I wish to speak with you all about today.   I want to know your opinions on DSLR film making and how you think it stands up to industry standard digital cameras. Do you think the market is being flooded by films shot on a DSLR that have no real quality to them or do you think DSLR film making has opened the doors to people being able to do what they want and create their film?   Why do you think people went from film to digital? Was it because it is cheaper and faster to work with or something else?   If you had the choice to work with either format which would you pick? Film or digital?   What do you think is next for the film making world? Digital cameras are now shooting extreme resolutions such as the RED Epic being able to shoot in 5K and 3D is beginning to show the world it is not just a fad as more and more films are now being shot in it and not just post-converted. What do you think the next big 'thing' will be?   I also created a poll which you are welcome to do if you wish? It simply asks the question, "Which do you prefer? Film or digital?" and then gives you the option to pick which. The link for this is below:   http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=515b2863e4b0ecbcda3739ce   Feel free to comment and share this post, the more opinions I gather the better. Also if you have experience in working in both film and digital and would like to be part of the project itself then please get in touch and I will arrange an interview with you.   Thanks guys!   Dan.
  8. Hi everyone. I have a bit of a pipe dream. I'm filming with a DSLR and stedicam rig, and it occurred to me it would be amazing to be able to pull focus by remote while doing so. Does anyone know if there's a cheap way of doing this? It would be amazing if i could hack the autofocus motor of my lens to achieve this. Another addition to my fantasy rig would be a wearable eyepiece for monitoring!   Seems far fetched i know but if anyone has any thoughts on this I'd love to hear them!
  9. Typically I have been shooting DV on my Panasonic DVX-100B, but since more and more people(potential clients) have asked me to shoot DSLR I figured it might be time to buy something for those times. I'm not looking to break the bank just yet, just a good all around body that I can start getting some great lenses for.   It appears to be coming down to 3 choices: the Canon 60D, Nikon D5200, or the Nikon D7000. If anyone can share their experiences and thoughts on each it would really be helpful. I've practically spent the last week looking at reviews and screen tests, so I just need some opinions to go along with what I've read so far.   So with that in mind I would really appreciate everyones help with this decision. Thanks.     Brandon
  10. Hi all,   Really hoping this doesn't count as a spam post - it's really a call for submissions, but other forums have taken offence at it.   I'm seeking submissions for my new blog, love24fps.com - it's a celebration of the best of live event filmmaking, so we're seeking wedding trailers, anniversary films, proposal films, other live event films, etc to showcase. Think of it as the Style Me Pretty for filmmakers.   The basic rules for submission are:   1) No copyright material. All music must be fully licensed and you must include song title(s), artist name(s) and where you licensed the music so we can give due credit. 2) We won’t reject a submission just because it’s hosted on YouTube, but we do massively favor Vimeo. It just looks nicer. If at all possible, host your trailer on Vimeo. 3) We’re not just about wedding trailers – we’ll take any live event film no longer than 8 minutes. Birthday parties, quinceaneras, vow renewals…. get creative. 4) We’re looking for fresh content, so the live event has to have taken place no longer than 12 months before your submission. 5) If your trailer uses Disarm or White Dress by Ben Rector, it had better be really good. Nothing against Mr. Rector, but if we had a nickel for every time we’d watched a trailer using one of those two songs…   Please email a link to the piece to love24fps@longhaulfilms.com to submit.   Thanks!
  11. Demo Reel     This video will mainly showcase my editing, cinematography, and grading skills.   Please share your thoughts.
