My cameras and kit

  1. I'm read threads at RU, DVXuser and here. Looking to get a relatively cheap anamorphic adapter for around $500. It seems that the Kowa 8Z and its alternatives is a good bet. I've seen others that are projection style but the EOSHD book states that they should be avoided. Is that still true? Essentially avoid this http://www.ebay.com/itm/321535626176?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  2. "The newest addition to the Letus AnamorphX family: the 1.8x"
  3. Hello everybody! I listed a 2000 MC Isco anamorphic lens on eBay. If someone wants can ask questions. I bought this lens is 2 years and never used it, she is very well cleaned glass has no scratches or fungi, only a detached rear element. I did tests with a zeiss 35mm f2.8, Canon FD D1.4, Elgeet 12mm F1.2 (ETC), V6x17 (ETC), Angenieux 17-68 (ETC) all with a GH2 camera, and the images do not appear nothing detachment. I did a little test video, 2 days ago with a Canon 50mm f1.4 and can be seen here: Ebay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111494558009?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 You can also ask and accept offers. Thanks
  4. I have a question regarding the LA7200, basically in order to focus you would to move the back lens element or front. Would that be correct? Would it be possible to allow focus by adding another lens element behind the flat back lens element. Not sure how the image is presented by the square back of the LA7200. Im currently in the process of modifying it and frankensteining the lens with old junked vintage lenses to make it one whole lens that does not need a taking lens. Just want to make sure I have the physics right. Thanks in advance.
  5. I want to get everyone's opinion on this. Should I buy anamorphic lens or a dog schidt lens w/ the oval aperture? I'm wondering why people still go crazy on ebay for anamorphic lens when you can get the dog schidt lens with the option of a 1.5x or 2x oval apeture and is single focus. Essentially, both the anamorphic and DSO lens produce the same results as far as oval bokeh and flares, I would think. Is there something I'm missing? You would think that people would go with the DSO lens option as opposed to anamorphic lens seeing as how anamorphic lens require more such as double focus, clamps and other addition things to make them work properly. So, do anamorphic lens have more desirable characteristics (other then the whole crop/squeeze factor) then the DSO lens that I don't know about?
  6. Testing my Sony a7s with kowa prominar 16 H, Taking lens is a Russian Jupiter-11A
  7. Aspect ratios including 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, and 1:1. Limited to 29.97P for U.S and 25P for 50Hz shooting. Shooters have the ability to shoot in Cine Picture profiles with full-manual controls. No 23.98 or 24P in PhotoMode. The 1:1 aspect ratio with a 2x anamorphic is a native 16:9. Internal recording at 100 Mb/s. HDMI output is still enabled! Might be a huge advantage to shoot anamorphic with a ShoGun after all! Will the GH4 embed the 1:1, 3:2, and 4:3 in a 3840x2160? I'm noticing a completely different grain structure in PhotoMode... Shot a 16x9 in 3840x2160 in Movie Mode and a 16x9 at 3840x2160 in PhotoMode and the grain texture in PhotoMode shows signs of compression artifacts not found on professional video or film cameras. Sorry. It's almost as if the sensor is acting differently. It's possible to notice the grain-structure change in 10x LiveView. The codec already has issues with recording in low-light, as seen by Dave Dugdale's GH4 vs. A7S demonstration (Dave's video mentions how a white background in low-light causes strange codec issues... I'm in a similar circumstance and it's helping to distinguish the new noise-floor patterns). This new grain texture appears to be present at ISO 320 and above. The white backdrop is close to 35 - 45% luminance values and not 80 - 95%). Needs more testing and proper lighting. Also, I'm under a 5200k CFL and not a professional non-strobing video light. However, this may be distinguishable in future tests with proper lighting and at low ISO values. Keep an eye out for it. Other info about 2.0 firmware... - - No new Gamma Picture profile. - - No 23.98 in 4096x2160.
  8. Some moods testing the new photo mode in the 4:3 ratio with my 2X kowa anamorphic adapter. More in the description. Very nice feature to have now.
  9. Testing out the new Metabones Speedbooster Canon EF -> m43. Really loving it, and working with Sigma ART lenses it just sings! I really want that shallow depth of field look, and it works a treat. Of course it's really hard to focus at F1, worse using a vari-ND filter too (vignette and darkening of the corners at the highest setting). Paired with the SLR Magic Anamorphot it has a great look!
  10. Just a quick video testing out a Sigma 35-70mm f2.8-4 canon FD mount I found at a local camera shop for $20. It seems to work better as a taking lens than my canon FD f1.4 for some reason, not sure why. It does have a flat front element. From what I have read online most people weren't very happy with sigma zoom lenses in the FD mount, as far as the overall quality. it was all shot wide open around 39/41mm except for the 3rd shot which was at 70mm. I had heard you could use a 35mm + anamorphic on the gh4 without any vignetting but it is pretty severe when I try.

  13. hi guys, i started a vimeo channel dedicated to my anamorphic test with LA7200 and GH2, speedbooster and CANON FD lens. https://vimeo.com/channels/anamorphictest Do feel free to take a look and comment. Thanks, Chin
  14. Hello everyone, I'm looking to buy a clamp for my baby iscorama/iscomorphot 8/1.5x. I've read that the clamp that redstan makes for this lens has been discontinued. So if there is anyone who is selling their redstan clamp for baby anamorphics, I'm looking to buy. I've also looked through all the forums related to anamorphics and I know there are several alternatives to mount that lens (f-adapter, step rings, etc.) However, there seems to mixed impressions on all methods. I've tried looking for a step down ring that steps down to a 24mm thread, but can't seem to find one. If anyone knows of the best alternative, that information would be greatly appreciated :)
  15. Would you recommend me a good 35mm taking lens that can go wide open but still sharp enough for use with a Kowa 8z on a gh2. What would be the sharpest lens possible for that combination? What would be the best/reasonably cheap option? Any recommendations accepted. What hack would you use for sharpest image. Sedna Aq1? Thanks!
  16. Hi my dear anamorphic friends ! here is a "Scarface's like" wedding :) and my brother's wedding :) all this was shot in GH4 4K and 1080p 96fps happy end of the summer ! :)

  18. I've been looking for a suitable zoom lens to work behind an anamorphic. I stumbled upon the Olympus Pen-F 50-90 F3.5, which seems to have the right kind of DNA. Its a half frame lens so is suitable for mirrorless APSC and below. Its relatively fast, not too far away from the F2.8 pro standard and has a front optic about 40mm diameter and of course has a nice range of 50-90mm at constant F3.5 https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=olympus+50-90+f3.5&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=no-hU9L-DPSB7Qbds4CICA&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAg&biw=1057&bih=524 I don't know if its par focal If anyone knows this lens I would appreciate details, and if you have used it behind an anamorphic please report your findings.
  19. Hey guys. Another short i shot. GH4 Anamorphic. M42 mount taking lenses and a 70's Vivitar zoom. Another model 1 on 1. 70's vibes and shooting. the 2k pro-res looks awesome, one day vimeo should get there shit together!
  20. Hello everyone, i just got an Iscorama (pre-36) and tested it with several taking lenses, it seems that the focus is a bit crooked, means sharpness goes a bit from left down to right up - did any of you ever noticed such an issue or heard about something like this?? Thanks for your replies in advance! best regards Fisimatenten

  22. Hello! I bough this Dylaiscope Junior 16 anamorphic projector lens from ebay last week for $51, I was very surprised No one ever out bid me. Optically it is in pretty good shape, some minor cosmetic scratches on the body. The main problem I have with it is the focus ring is fairly difficult to turn. I basically need to take it off the mount to set focus everytime because Im afraid I will put unneccesary stress on the lens and mount attached to the camera. I was just wondering if anyone has any experince or knowledge about lubricating lenses. I already know it is generally not a good idea for a non profession to take apart an anamorphic lens since all the elements need to stay perfectly alligned, but I was wondering if anyone knows the function of the 3 screws towards the back of the lens seen in the picture. I can sorta see a bar inside the lens that they seem to be holding. I have taken apart old Canon fd mount lenses before and reassembled with no issue but Im sure this is a bit more difficult. What would happen if I were to loosen those screws? It seems to me that this lens has probably been sitting somewhere for a very long time and the original lubricant has become less oily or something. I removed the face plate of the lens with all the writing on it and removed some of the grease and found it was a greenish shade, which I read from other forums is a type of grease known for sticking over time, not sure if it is the same grease used throughout the lens though. From what Ive read Dyaliscope lenses are of pretty good quality but havent been able to really find much about them. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.
  23. I'm looking for reviews and comparisons of quality and functionality among the many different brands of 2x squeeze anamorphic lenses on the market. I am aware of the LOMO, Kowa Prominar / Kowa Bell & Howell etc... that are listed in the 'Anamorphic Shooters Guide' but was wonering from your experience and research what brand of 2x lens is the best value for money. Thanks.
