I probably have the bull by the horns or my understanding is really really flawed. lol
I have doubled the capacity of my memory cards 1x micro sd and 1 sd card. Apon opening the package the kingston card it looked like this

Its obvious that its been opened previously, theres dust and grit inside the blister pack and the exterior shows signs of lots of rubbing. I have tried it in a couple of cameras and two card readers however it fails to show  up on any device. A dud in other words, my other card i have is a kingston 256 gb from the same supplier. Which is a bit surprising as it runs fine and works at near the rated speeds, sometimes a little faster than the rated speeds. Not sure how this got past quality control but its going back tomorrow. The box it came in shows no damage, so i don't think i can blame the postal service.
I got this card for the mission 1, while testing it, it doesn't operate at anywhere the rated speeds of 200mb. best i have seen 100 mb write speeds and 120 read speeds . I plan on doing some 4k recording, if it drops frames its going back as well.  Both cards are from amazon as i thought there'd be less chance of buying a fake card and the fact i payed good money for both kinda ticks me off.  Be interesting to see if this new card helps the shorten the buffering time after you stop recording on the mission1 although thats all dependent on how it handles 4k recording first.

😝 not sure if i should be offended or not...  I vaguely remember him as a nikon guy ?  i watched few of his youtubes but there was something that didn't click with me, i didn't watch much of his stuff. 

Good on you for trying something different, i lost interest after the image quality comment.. For two reasons 1) i dont think it will happen, every 2 year old and up has already mastered mums phone, and their bigger and heavier than any action camera i think. Ergonomically and for useability i think there's real constraints to avoid when going much smaller in an action camera for the majority of people. If one wanted a tenfold increase in quality you'd just buy a second hand gopro i reckon or other action camera if your not a fan of gopros.
 2) I think the amount of people screaming for less sharpening on camera and letting the user deal with it is a very small segment of the market.  Which they have been able to ignore so far. Although with the amount of youtubes available on sharpening and grading online, manufactures may have to lift their game soon. In some instances its happening we have the mission1, now theres also 2 other action camera threads on the forum so we should be well catered for. 
 
 

At  $30   i'd buy one...  

Some kid will use that camera and make a short film and upload it to YT, then he'll get a Hollywood deal.
A couple will buy 30 of them and put then on the wedding guest's tables for people to snap photos and take some video. The groom will edit them all together on his phone while sitting on the beach during his honeymoon. He will also upload it to YT and probably get a Hollywood deal. lol. 

Some more stills from resolve, 4k today first up is a sunset, not the prettiest colours but a sunset none the less. i do think when you stop recording 4k the processing continues on for a few seconds longer than standard 1080. Not that i have timed it, that's the feeling i get. I do think the new processor is getting a good workout and there must be a fair chunk of ram hidden in there to buffer things while the processor does its thing.  I think the mission1 will probably excel at timelapses as i think this image is quite nice for a still and i haven't gone past the default settings yet.
 
Next up is a kitten image. The interesting thing ( to me ) is the kitten still is after the sunset still by a few minutes yep appear brighter, i presume the mission1 is doing some "magic" in the background to lift the levels. It is quite dark going by human eyes in the shed. Yet you would most likely think this is taken an hour earlier.  If i start zooming in i see stuff i don't like pretty quickly and maybe thats from some of the magic that the mission1 employed while it was doing its thing. Overall i think the image is acceptable and footage looks ok ( to me ) on either a computer or ipad  i haven't tried a 4k tv yet . I have yet to try 8k and to me 8k, seems like complete overkill.  I dont mind 4k reduced down to 1080 the stills seem a little sharper / cleaner perhaps. Although @kye might be a  little nonplussed about that 😉

Some motion blur that  ( I think ) should indicate the mission1 is operating at a slow shutter speed. I do have some ideas about filming lowlight stuff but it won't be neon lights as theres not much of that out here. Plus there's the fact my dad had a stroke 2 weeks ago and is paralyzed on the right side, so its dad first the farm and animals 2nd and everything else when i can find a moment.

 

Painters pole at near full extension, so thats my arms extended, me gripping the pole at the bottom  with both hands and the pole at near full extension, there may have been another 150mm of travel left in the pole not sure.  Still i think thats a respectable height to achieve with a gopro without strapping it to a drone.  Not sure i could manage more than a few seconds of motionlessness at full height. I suspect the gimbal at the top is helping to calm things down. I reckon if i wanted to incorporate motion, more of a deliberate move from a to b may help keep things steady and maybe not trying for full extension will help as well.   

I have finished modifying the painters pole i bought. Comparing the cheapness of selfie sticks verses the price of branded monopods, the painters pole does comes in dearer than a selfie stick and a fair bit cheaper than any monopod. It did need some modifications with a drill and a hacksaw it also required 2 x 1/4 bolts which have now been replaced with 2 black knurled 1/4 inch large diameter "bolts" which makes disassembly or assembly a breeze.
The mission 1 fits on the crane m2 gimbal without issue even though it is a little bigger and heavier. i did remove some mass off the base plate, that allowed me to move the camera sideways just enough that i can fold all the axis's flat and stow it away in a plastic protective case in one piece. Remove the two black bolts stow in case and go. A great time saver i think. 

The first feature i like about it, is its robustness. Painters poles are sturdy pieces of equipment by design. The 2nd feature important to me at least was it has a hexagon shaft extension. which mean i dont have to worry about cams or twist locks, like you find on tripod legs coming adrift or wearing out, they always seem to frustrate me. The minimum height is about 5 feet and i think i can extend it to about 9 feet. I'll have to find a tape measure tomorrow... With gimbal attached the camera is a little lower than my eyes and im nearly 6 feet tall. So i kinda feel like it should be a nice height if i am just holding it upright, time will tell.  


I have been out today scouting, My town has a bunch of murals painted on various walls all over town, probably most towns have similar. There's actually a path to follow on google if one wanted to search it out. I had the mission 1 in a pocket and the first thing i noticed is that the rubber sun shade can get dislodged pretty easy and intrude into the photo.

This is from a burst mode, you know the 960 fps. Interestingly burst mode files sizes seem to come in at about 134 - 144 MB per batch. if you have a look at the two pics you can see the difference in light levels.
Straight out of camera we have a jpg  ( yes i know i should have shot raw ) i figured i would start with the defaults and see how that goes...

These are like only a minute apart and there's not a cloud in the sky. Not that i find the look unpleasant, it is what it is. The mission1 also does a ton of processing after you stop recording, it continues processing for a few seconds. Again not an issue just things i have noticed.  
If i use the phrase gopro take a picture it will do whatever the mode is set to, however it seems a little finicky in its execution the timing doesn't always seem the same. Theres also a very good chance the error is operator induced, but i think it may be more consistent for me, if i buy a bluetooth remote to trigger it, specifically if your trying to do one man band 960 fps sequences. I have tried half a dozen slow motion things at home with out alot of success. 

A quick headsup with the Viltrox adapter. Years ago, I hacked a Canon 10-18mm to make it fit, which it did. However, one day, I took it out my bag and was getting some really crazy lens flares. Turned out, the back lens element was touching the glass in the adapter when at around 12mm. In my bag, it cracked the glass in the Viltrox, and I learned there's a pretty good reason the combo didn't work without being hacked.
So if you get any EFs lenses, be careful - or you'll end up with a one of a kind, megaflare adapter (I've used it a few times since because of the 'creative flaring', so it's not all bad)
This photo is from the moment I noticed something was wrong. Luckily, it was on my GX85 at the time, which I was using for behind the scenes stills. So nothing was lost or ruined in a 'professional' sense.

Iphone 13 pro max was used. Not sure about the third clip, one day last week the iphone camera gave me grief all day. It jumped about, had focus  issues. Quite bizarre, i have also noticed it flares abit oddly, i presume its time to put new lenses covering over it as when i examine the lens covering their starting to get scratched. I have since installed the raw cam app thats been mentioned in a forum thread and i'll give that ago shortly. 
The mission 1 has been in and out of its box, i charged the battery and updated the software and its back in its box as i want to do some kind of unboxing ceremony, kinda like a welcome to country thing 😀. You probably need to be abit aussie to grasp where my thought processes are going. The other issue is i seem to have misplaced a ball head adapter. I kinda had some ideas for its use, not a huge issue as i can work around it i think.

I'm not so sure about that, I have bought several items and most times i try to get as much info as i can to make an informed decision however nothing turns up. Once i have bought the thing and used it then found an issue googling that provides a bunch of responses that weren't available with earlier queries. I suspect my search terms or the wording is inadequate somehow. I will say i haven't had the the issue the my cheaper sb that you have had, my issues have been different...
I did just have a quick look at my m42 takumars, they all look to  have slightly different length protrusions from the rear. Theres also 4 types of 50mm takumars from takumars to super takumars and a couple of smc takumars. If you have a micrometer we could do some math and figure out the differences. But that wont solve your problem.
 
 

Ok its official, i have no willpower at all...  as you can see not $700 but that was expected. I like the little embargo sticker, talking to a saleman they were only allowed to start selling these from yesterday. Hn gave me a gift card of $100 so the grip comes down to $54 easy decision. I did take it out of the box to charge it up on the way home as i had a usb to c cable in the car. I do wonder if i'm going to need a better memory card, what i have now is probably a bit ordinary.  Big day tomorrow it would seem.
we'll find out tomorrow, i'll let the suspense build :)

 

Already working on that.. think i'll tape the gimbal to a stick to get closer to the kitten she's alot tamer now  after a couple of weeks feeding her . i do have a few clips on the iphone 13 which i want to have a look at. I also now have that apple raw cam for the iphone  which i want to try as well. so win win i guess.

How is that any different to any other camera manufacturer ?  Canon gave us the cripple hammer and cameras that overheated because of a timer. If you have a list of 7 attributes for your forever camera, no camera manufacturer will give you all 7, perhaps 4 at best...
Your correct, its because i tend to stick my head in the sand.  It's a basic defense mechanism designed to help avoid additional financial trauma to my wallet..  That new laowa zoom seems interesting, i'll have to keep an eye out for that.   
I hope gopro don't go broke before they release the ils, as i would still buy it counting on the fact that my gopro 9 still works after i don't know how many years of ownership.
I did rewatch the potato jet vid and i thought that the warping was better controlled / less obvious then previous models, anyone else notice that ?
My oly 12mm probably wont work with mission1 ils but every other vintage lens i own should, whether they actually resolve to 4k or higher might be an issue. I'm trying not to over think it considering that with a 2.7 crop there's a chunk gone off the top, bottom and sides leaving the center portion which is usually the best bit, i'm prepared to call it character and live with it  unless its a really obnoxious look. 
From what i have seen with those that have a ils to play with, it seems like they all had phones or monitors hooked up. So my first though was that it would have to be rigged to be useful. Which is about a 180 degree turnaround to how a normal gopro is used. That seems  obvious to me and doesn't strike me as an impediment at all.  I mean look at all the smallrig accessories potato jet had at his disposal.

It was better when you could buy stuff under $1000 and pay not additional taxes. Gerry Harvey complained to the government he was losing too many sales. Thats when the ten % gst got applied to everything and the government had a win and Gerry Harvey could suddenly afford a few more race horses as well.
For awhile those overseas ebay buys were a bargain as the middleman got cut out out the deal. However i suspect the manufacturers or sellers have upped the base price regardless of middlemen or not and the savings aren't as spectacular as they once were.
Ah ok, i read that as a reasonable (price) opposite of what you meant lol, although not sure what gopros have normally sold for over there. I think i paid $500-600 for the 9 when it came out. Confident i looked around for the best "local" deal. 
Playing devils advocate momentarily and to be honest i have no interest in the other models, a new chip, decent capacity battery it seems, and ability to mount mft lenses and that 1080 at 960fps even at 10 seconds is impressive, i think i would be happy to pay $700 even through its a jump over earlier gopros but it wont be $700 here, I'm expecting $1000-$1300 
er i just googled mission 1 in aus. Seems like there here, except the ils gopro and its $1100  which might come as a bit of a shock to some of you  🙂

I meant that the $700 US price tag was "already there" in terms of 'exorbitant, ridiculous, and "this is just an action camera - WTF"' which Kye had just said in anticipation of the AU pricing.
I should have chosen phrasing that made it more clear that I wasn't simply repeating US pricing that is already known.  😅

I use it both for my own films as well as I get hired to do music videos and events. I just finished a feature length experimental film shot entirely with it called Shapes, Colours, Patterns. (There's a trailer for it on my Tumblr. https://clarknikolai.tumblr.com ) I'm very happy with it, and of course the image from that camera is gorgeous. Something I've discovered with the Digital Bolex's footage, is that it looks the best projected rather than shown on an LCD screen.
I'm now working on a new project. It's a narrative, collectively written, performed and crewed by myself and three other artists. It's set in the present day in east Vancouver where three artists are working on their art projects. The characters are based on the people involved and their real lives (but fictionalized so we have more freedom.) We're using French New Wave and Availablism methods. Quick half-day  shoots. It's self funded, using what we have around us, the equipment we already own, locations we already have, etc. (I think so far all we've spent on it was some coffees.) I plan to enter it in to film festivals when it's done.
Here's a picture with the camera mounted backwards on the shoulder rig. This is so the camera operator can walk forward while the talent is behind them and they don't need a spotter. It's tricky to learn how to move but it's going okay. It works fine with a wide lens but not easy when zoomed in (as you'd expect.) We have to flip the image in the monitor or it's disorienting.

I'd like a dollar for every time he says oppo find...  I believe the more youtube camera reviews i watch, the more cynical i become and the cynical part maybe exponential... 
i did like the intro, for a guy who lives in the country, its nice to see some travel footage. Although the title,  travel film could be "code"  for you, secretly need a new 8k  camera phone. That in turn would probably necessitate a new tv, new computer, and maybe some other peripherals. So for me, probably not going to happen.  Perhaps this new oppo is amazing, and good on them if it is. Personally i cant take a camera phone seriously if it doesn't have a lens cover. Every single lens i have bought except a couple of 2nd hand lens from japan have had lens covers. If  smart phone manufactures cant put a plastic lens cover on it then their not taking their product seriously.
During the into did think to myself one could  do a similar thing with a gimbal and any phone camera or perhaps even an action camera.  Sure enough a gimbal seems to be the secret sauce, oh and add 8k of course and the occasional hand held shot for added realism.  I shouldn't knock the guy, at least he's out and about doing stuff, while i'm content to simply watch it, in my comfortable desk chair..  It was nice of oppo to send him the phone to vlog with, after that my mind boggles at the boat trips, plane trips, bike hire, and i'm thinking at this point his his business financials must be going backwards. 🙃 I did learn a few things from the behind the scenes part, so thanks for that .
PS. Somebody should probably tell the dude,  that you ride bikes,  you don't drive them. It sounds kinda lame to anyone that does actually ride one.
