All these so called 'workarounds' really are an olympic sized exercise in turd polishing.

Who cares about a workaround for 4K24p?? Every camera does that since a long time. There is no workaround for 4K60p and 120p, recording externally is not option otherwise we would use proper cine camera if weight and size wasn't an issue.
I am fine working with time limitations to get those heat producing features (like 15min max in 4K120) as long as taking stills / be in the menus do not lower those limitations and as long as the camera recovers similarly to any other camera on the market, and not in 2+ hours like it seems to be the case.
For me it has never been about the initial time recording limitation, which are understandable, but about the recovery time and the camera heating by itself when on. The latter is what makes the camera barely usable for any usage and could have EASILY been avoided by Canon technically as proven by competitors. It's likely that they did make it more thermally efficient by purpose / and or put software limitation. If they actually did their best, which I do not believe a second, then they should fire the whole company (with managers first) and start from 0 or stick with making printers. What a joke.
I went from "amazing, finally" when announced to "still great" when we heard about recording limitations to "WTF is this BS" when we found out that the camera is actually almost unusable for video due to the above.
On top of that, my camera ordered day 1 still did not ship with no date in sight. That's actually probably a good thing since if Canon doesn't fix this I am afraid my testing period will very likely end up with a return.

The canboys object for one reason only - because people are saying negative things about their 'special one'.
Would they be objecting if it was all positive? Of course not. They'd be joining in.
They just want to shut down anything other than the Canon party line.
Andrew has created a forum where different opinions can be aired. This IME is reasonably rare in photography forums which can be the very definition of manufacturer party line echo chamber. If people want that (and it appears some here do) you have many other options.

Actually in this case yes....I do think absolutely no one should buy the R5 and the R6..want to know why? Because every single buyer of these two cameras proves to Canon that they can get away with selling a camera that is unfit for purpose. So as long as buyers keep rewarding Canon for putting out products that are unfit for purpose guess what Canon is going to keep doing?
Canon IMO is closer than anyone else to creating the perfect hybrid camera (AF, Color Science, ecosystem, lenses, form factor, etc.), unless people vote with their wallets they have no incentive to change that last 10%.

You might be surprised to find out that I find the Sony overheating just as bad. I am brand agnostic when it comes to my criticism because if you camera overheats when you want or need to use it, it doesn’t matter what brand it is, its fucking sucks.
Furthermore, I WANT Canon to get their shit together so I can have a Canon mirrorless camera with my holy grail specs of bulletproof 4K up to 120p. Believe me, Canon would have my money. I bash Canon out of disappointment more than anything and hope they fix it.

I get the backlash for the R5 and R6 overheating, but we all know what it is at this point until Canon changes things. To have the proud polar opposites of "fanboys" and so-called "canboys" posting around the clock about the "Fanboys" and so-called "canboys" seems like some hater shit. It is corny asf really.  Nobody has to buy the R5, and if you didn't pre-order it you don't have to worry about the shortcomings of the camera.  Mad about someones willingness to use a camera they paid for with their own money. LOL

This is it. Only canboy's persist in coming up with increasingly comical 'workarounds' rather than admit it's a lemon.

Curious that they would have such brand loyalty when they've being royally screwed by Canon - but that's fanboys for you. Logic and reason left the building a long time ago!

You're missing the hype train. The colors still suck at Sony. Canon looks nice but now they add mindblowing features no one can use for any practical reasons but they add it to market to us crabs in a barrel while knowing these features can't harm their now slightly higher tier cameras which have settings people can actually use today for work. The cynicism from these companies would be laughable only if their customers weren't so gullible.

Canon arrogantly took people for granted and thought they could get away with it because they are 'Canon'. But this is not the year 2000. They have serious competition with Sony and smartphones are now photography for the masses.

Andrew and others have written how this is a problem with Japanese companies more broadly and their failure to adapt and keep an 84 year old CEO just for example. Canon is in serious trouble and in 5-10 years will not be the size they are now.

These workarounds don't work for all modes. What about 4k 120p? Can't do that currently with an external recorder and even if you could, you've now lost compactness which makes it difficult or impossible to use in the field for wildlife videography.  It defeats the purpose of the camera for how I would use it.
Even if you primarily shoot stills, the damn camera heats up and makes it nearly unusable when you do want to take video.
I fail to understand why anyone would use these workarounds for a camera with bad engineering design. Why promote this garbage? Why spend thousands of dollars on a camera that works half-assed at best and requires you to spend another thousand to use it for some of it's video modes but not all?
If you want to stop Canon from making shit cameras stop buying them.

Or you can use Joyoshare Media Cutter to edit H.265 files. It is very easy to use for beginners. With Joyoshare, you can trim, rotate, and crop videos.  Also, you can add subtitles and background music to videos. You can customize the resolution and hue, add video and audio effects, etc.

    Bottom line:
Canon wants this camera to be used only in certain ways for specific applications. So, they design the R5 for that and that only.
We, however want to use the R5 "our" way. We want it to "fit" into the way "we" work. We pretty much all want to use the R5 "our" way and we are getting pissed that its not working.
The problem is "us". We expect too much from the R5 but we eventually need to learn how to accept it for the limited application it was designwd for.
The R5 is not a pro camcorder. Its not for paid video work. Its made to capture your kids in your backyard in 8k or your cats playing with a laser pointer. Its made for casual home shooting and nothing more.
Its failure us our fault, no Cannon's

You're the one with comprehension issues - in the video above he was forced to state what settings he used in the comments below. I quote him:

"4K HQ, 23.98p, IBIS on, AF ON, ALL-I (even though that doesn't matter in this case)."
He also says in the video using an external recorder 'solves' 4K on the R5. This is an outright lie - he hasn't tested it at the higher frame rates. You can't trust a word he says if he's prepared to lie like this.

Look at the pretty much universal praise for Gerald's video. I know who I trust rather than this liar.

I've seen elsewhere users state CF cards just get warm from having them in a camera that's on, not even writing to them.

Canon sell this very heavily as a hybrid, seamlessly switching between modes. The idea when you want to switch between stills / video you have to change out cards and attach an external recorder makes a mockery of that claim. As others have said, also puts more pressure on micro HDMI port, constant switching in and out. The design is poor. Period.

Doesn't change the fact this guy is a liar - making statements he cannot back up. Here he is saying an external recorder solves 4K on the R5.
