Btw. - has anyone found a way how Resolve (16.1) properly recognizes the Sigma fp raw video files as CinemaDNG files, instead of DNG sequences with separate .wav files?

You can also do that by choosing 172.8 degree shutter with 24p/23.98p.

Use Slimraw instead to recompress the CinemaDNG to smaller file sizes. Cineform Raw is a sparsely supported and pretty much a dead format.

So I just now got around to testing this- it seems that turning off the camera vs letting the auto power-save put the camera to sleep are basically the same thing, have the same effect on settings. If you in one of the Custom modes (C1, C2, C3) and you change a setting and let the camera turn off, then yes, when you turn it back on the settings will have changed to their default settings; which seems right to me, that’s how all programmable custom modes work on cameras, the whole point of them is to remember a specific setup of settings. The difference here is that the “sleep” mode is actually turning off the camera, or doing all the same things that turning off the camera does, instead of just pausing the camera as most cameras do when going to sleep.
But in any of the other modes, PSAM, anything you set stays set that way the next time the camera turns on, whether you turned the camera off or if it went to “sleep”.
This isn’t true, you can set any of the display modes to have zebras on, and this applies to both custom modes as well as PSAM modes. (I only now just discovered this in the menus). Again, it sucks, but you can’t have zebras and focus peaking on at the same time.

Figured it out with the help of the camera manual. The menu entries for the zebras are only for configuring their parameters, not for activating them. For the latter, one needs to define a custom shoot mode and then customize the display settings for that shoot mode (including activation of zebras).
Zebras and focus peaking don't work together. And in Cine mode + Manual mode, lens aperture cannot be controlled via the camera's wheels, but only via menus, which is a huge downer for lenses without aperture rings (such as adapted ef mount lenses).
Many configuration items - such as audio level adjustment - are buried in submenus.
In still mode and M setting (with Auto-ISO), exposure compensation is only available via menus, not via dials - another huge letdown. The camera tends to overexpose in automatic metering and has no highlight priority metering option.
This is definitely not a straightforward camera in handling and everyday use.

Just check out Phil Holland's handy tools: http://phfx.com/tools/formatCompare/
For example, at 6k full sensor the Komodo is 1.33x crop from standard full-frame: http://phfx.com/tools/formatCompare/formatCompare.cgi?makeA=RED&modelA=Komodo+6K&formatA=6K+FF&makeB=Kodak&modelB=Film&formatB=FF35+Still+3%3A2&focalLengths=
And has a 1.6x crop at 5k full frame: http://phfx.com/tools/formatCompare/formatCompare.cgi?makeA=RED&modelA=Komodo+6K&formatA=5K+FF&makeB=Kodak&modelB=Film&formatB=FF35+Still+3%3A2&focalLengths=
So, if you used the speedbooster at 5k full sensor on the Komodo, it would get prettty darn close to a full-frame FOV. Pretty sweet.

Shooting on an EOS R, right? Please shoot a FF still and see how big the image circle is so we can find out if it will work on the larger Komodo sensor!
It won't be exact, but if you just figure out how many pixels wide you could go with a 16x9 frame, and then divide 6720 by that number, it should give you the maximum size it will cover in terms of crop factor. So, fingers crossed it covers ~5200px on the EOS R.

I found the ipb to be quite jittery in motion and the All-I had a buttery motion to the eye. The All-I is easier to edit too. It reminds me of the mjpeg in character.
Could have been a frame rate setting issue, but those additional MBs make a hell of a difference from my experience.

But there's no quick way to set that focus point is there? It's a multiple key press to get to a point to move the reticule around and then that spot stays. Very frustrating when you can't really focus off the screen very well.
I hope we can get the way this works changed a bit!
    cheers

The patent covers any form of compressed RAW video recording, whether internal or external.
This is why Atomos signed a licensing agreement with RED for its external recorders that record ProRes RAW:

Btw., the patents are linked on RED's website and publicly readable:

Big bummer. The RED patent also poses a threat to MagicLantern as MLV is compressed RAW video.

You are comparing 6K Bayer-to-4K Bayer downscale + 4K debayer to 6K debayer + 6K RGB-to-4K RGB downscale. The first will never look as good as the second.
The 10-bit file is linear and the 8-bit file is non-linear. That's why 10-bit looks suspicious to you, it has lost a lot of precision in the darks.
Yeah, well, the main difference with offsetting in log is that you are moving your "zero" around (a "log" curve is never a direct log conversion in the blacks), so you'd need to readjust the black point. Whereas with multiplication (gain) in linear there is no such problem. Still, offsetting is handy with log footage or film scans.
  23. Thanks

I'm not sure how to test other than by doing this, but here are two DNG's,  the first is a frame from CINE mode, a 4K DNG sequence (A001_002_20191105_000001.DNG), the second was taken in STILLS mode as a single DNG (SDIM0188.DNG).
Obviously the frame from STILLS mode is larger, but if you scale up the CDNG file, you'll see the framing matches, so no cropping (other than the vertical cropping to make it 16:9).
