Wow, no love for IBIS today?
I couldn't go back to a non-IBIS camera. I shoot lots of B roll of people who've never been on camera before and will be gone away in a minute, doing things. IBIS means I can shoot handheld and get three different steady shots from different angles while directing the person(s) in the same amount of time it would take me to get one shot on a tripod.
I don't use it as a substitute for a dolly, slider or gimbal. I still remember my horror at the shaky jello of my first handheld shots on the 5D Mk 2!

For me, you buy what you need when you need it.
For instance, I might buy something like this if I had a particular client on deck that would be put at ease seeing me run around with a "real" camera.  (That's still a thing in the circles I'm in)
Obviously, you need to know if you're served by playing this sort of game.  I've rented camera gear just to impress clients, not for any particular production need.
If I was in that situation again, heck, might as well buy a package like this for the same cost.  Also, wouldn't be the last time I'd buy gear only to sell it again quickly.  Which is kind of like renting, just with more flexibility.
Once, a few years back for a client, I borrowed a bunch of unnecessary cinema rigging from a friend/colleague and buried my LUMIX camera under it. Looked cool, but was incredibly gratuitious.  All that nonsense just to do a talking head interview.  Whatever, the client enjoyed the spectacle.  Afterwards I bought my buddy a nice 18 year single malt scotch for that one, which we shared.  Win-win-win.

I probably could. But thats not my job. Usually I hire people to make the videos at work. But sometimes we do it in house. Then I need to deliver every time. With only available light as well as crisp audio. For full days of shooting. Both stills and video. A smartphone is just too time consuming, limiting and straight up annoying for me. A good hybrid gets me where I need to be.
I'm sure plenty of people love shooting with smartphones and creates wonderful things. But I don't. And that's ok.

I thought so, which is why I was surprised at the $200 figure as its less than 100 in the, erm, "World Series" style denomination.
There is absolutely no way that I will be doing do the same thing to buy a GFX100 in Tokyo for €3K less than it is in Madrid.
    Absolutely no way at all.
Not until the immigration restrictions are lifted.

What a mess Canon made. If they wanted to protect their cinema line, they should have just put a 5-min time limit on the 8k and 4khq modes instead of an overheat timer. That way it was at least usable as a b-cam. Now you have an unreliable piece of expensive junk you cannot trust at all.

As I look across the room at my Canon bodies and absolute treasure of Canon glass, I'm feeling kind of embarrassed at being a Canon fanboy for so many years. If this kind of behavior is the reward for decades of loyalty then Canon does not understand the lifetime value of a customer!
F*ck them. If this test gets confirmed elsewhere I am cancelling my pre-order and getting a Lumix S1H and S1R.

I suspected Canon to cripple this camera somehow, someway but this artificial heat limit and recovery time is really out of line. Such arrogance!
But you know what? Canon may think they control the market but we have the power to control them by boycotting Canon. Especially nowadays with the camera industry bleeding as it is. Force Canon to stop this BS. How?
If you already purchased the camera, return it. If you have it on order, cancel it. Cancel all orders with Canon. Write letters to Canon showing your disgust. Call Canon and voice your disapproval. Fight Canon with your pocketbook. Stop the BS.

Even if the Tilta contraption worked perfectly, I couldn't justify buying these cameras out of principal. Canon shouldn't be rewarded for this.

A little vignette I fiilmed last week with the beautiful Canon FD 20mm and the awesome Vivitar 90mm macro lens plus 50mm 1.4 SSC for the slomo at the end.
First shot is in BW and colored in Davinci, filmed with GX85. Arrow shots at sunset between 12800 and 25600 ISO, which worked impressively well in 4K, not so well in slomo of course. I am very, very impressed by this camera. Battery life is good. With two original batteries one should be happy for the day. Sorry for the sound quality and lack of sounddesign. All shot in L monochrom and portrait with manual color temperature, 8bit 4k and 125fps HD at the end. High shutter speed for the fans of motion cadence. cheers

I vote for Andrew to instead spend his last month's worth of rent payments on buying and reviewing a Panasonic S1H! He might be homeless, but at least he'll be homeless with a S1H and GFX100

I agree. DFD is absolute rubbish, especially with the lack of a ToF and Laser Focus. It can never replace PDAF, and in video the gap is even more apparent.
I also want atleast another stop and a half of dynamic range, in video. Built-in Electronic ND would be superb too.

    Surely, people are outraged.

But, in my view, he is quite right.
He took care not to hurt the MCU creators by saying: 'as well made as they are', so I don't see why he is accused of being insulting.

The canon t1i saves even more money. It had an all plastic body PLUS only 720p at 24fps, which must have been substantially more cost effective than to compress 1080p at 24 frames every second. Of coarse canon decided to take a risk and lose some money in order to be innovative once again, so they added 1080p 24 to the t2i. Sadly this cost canon so much money that they nearly went bankrupt, and so they unfortunately had to remove 24p from the M6 II. Then scientists discovered that the earth isn’t round, nor flat, but actually is shaped like an octagon. We just don’t realize this because alien nebula waves in the earth’s atmosphere inject pathogens into our brain to trick us into believing this false view of a round or flat earth.

As an a6300/a73 owner I don't give two shits about the new a6x00's, especially the "flagship" with the old sensor and same video specs. $1400 gets you a Z6, which outside of AF and photo FPS speeds, is superior in every way. The only way Sony gets my cash to upgrade the a6300 is the XT3's sensor and 10-bit/4k60p, but its obvious that's not happening in the next 2-3 years until the next gen bodies are released. Been tempted by the XT3, but I mostly use AF and I don't want to carry two sets of lenses, so I'm still in the Sony camp for now.
But I'm also in the camp that doesn't expect the a7s3 to be anything close to the S1H, IMO it gets a new sensor - Andriodlad says the quad bayer is coming - and the new AF system, with 10-bit HDMI only to keep it out of FS5 territory. I've done a lot of work in TV and doc's, its split between C1/300's and FS5/7's in my neck of the woods. Everyone shooting commercials I've worked with is on Canon or Red except one company that uses a FS7. I can't imagine Sony letting the a7s3 run into FS territory the way Panasonic just created a FF mashup of the EVA and GH5 in the S1H. Sony is going more conservative with every new camera.
