henricus reacted to MrSMW in Sigma Fp first shots - how does internal 8bit RAW compare to external 12bit RAW?
I’m very interested to know how this thing holds up as a stills camera. Or rather as a hybrid flipping between the two.

No you were not asked where the footage is. I fully understand that no one has footage outside of Sigma. I merely questioned your otherwise interesting article’s title. As I do not feel an article that claims to be “comprehensive” can be absent of the single most important aspect of any camera... the footage. Also no information of base ISO... or ISOs if it is dual?
It was a simple comment. It was not meant as a personal attack on anyone. And for the record, I’m pleased to see more players come into the video market, as I believe competition is a healthy thing and great for consumers.
Perhaps you will ban me for saying these things? I have noticed of late, that pretty much everything is tolerated by those claiming to be tolerant... unless what is presented is a difference of opinion. That’s where tolerance ends.

You're disappointed in what? The DP, defocusing or geee how the camera performed. I love when industry people can't form a complete sentence to back up "why' they don't like something or are disappointed.
You seem disappointed in a lot of you post and this seems like a meds issue.

I've been following the announcement of this camera and after all the fancy specs that sounds really good on paper, I've realized that, at least for me, this "resolution race, give me more K's stuff" have come to an end. Why? Because if some client ask me specifically for a 6K job I have a lot of better tools than this camera. If you truly need 6K/4K you probably have the budget to rent a RED Dragon/VV/Alexa with far more image quality, lenses, codecs.
This camera sits in a really weird spot, because $2000/$2500 cameras are really good. But if I'm going to spend $4000 (add 3000-4000 for cages, batteries, monitors and some lens), maybe save some more money and I will instantly start looking on a more capable tool with a real jump on image quality and ergonomics like a C200 or a used C300MKII, or maybe a used RED. All of them with a good "name" for commercial and indie work. Or if I'm going to shoot an indie movie I can rent an Epic Dragon pack for $1500 a week and got far better quality and workflow.

    Facts:
It has a rolling shutter, of course like most cameras without a global shutter. In 1080p the distortion is tolerable. In 4K it's worst on the market up there with A6300.
It doesn't have built in ND, it's in the adapter. Adapter NDs you can get for any camera. When you want to go clear you have to change the adapter, so not the same as having a true built in ND like the FS5 or C300
High bitrate? No, it's average at around 136Mbit in 4K and much lower in 1080p. High would be 400Mbit in H.264 or 200Mbit in H.265.
Seamless transition between photo and video would be a "one click" of a switch which the EOS R cannot do. Unless you are hitting record from the stills mode, in which case you can't use all the features and have to frame-up in 3:2.
    Opinion:
Clearly the EOS R is a great fit for you. Nobody is claiming to overrule that and I really do like your reviews.
Got to get the facts right though when you make statements like the above, as newbies come here to learn.
One thing we CAN definitely agree on though is the lenses... Canon EF lenses are so dominant for all the right reasons... rendering, performance, range, price. Nothing comes close.

16:9 would be 1736x976 - in the magic lantern menu select 16:9 aspect ratio and that's the resolution that should appear. You'll probably get close to continuous recording without the sd card hack in 12 bit lossless at this resolution.
I've just seen that the eos m can now shoot 3k (3032x1436) at 24fps in 5x zoom mode. Look forward to trying this later this month when I can. The crop in this mode is  2.76x, or 2x with the speedbooster. Record times will probably only be a few seconds even in 9 or 10 bit lossless raw.

Nah, I don’t think I really touched those files. Maybe used the three way color to ease off the black level a tiny bit or shift the WB.

I was using the C300 Log 2 or 3 LUT? Probably not the proper way to do it, but I am happy with the results.
Sorry, I can't remember which profile it was. Early on people were recommending it as the best profile with the least amount of NR.

You may have seen this, but I shot this when I first bought the camera. Looking at this footage reminds of how crazy easy the camera is to shoot with and how good the stabilizer on the long end is crazy good.
The shots at :09 were shot on the "standard" profile I believe, with the NR and Sharpening all the way down. They seem to have a thicker color than the other clips I shot. You could easily cut shots like that with a C300 and not notice.
The indoor shots are all ETTR (expose to the right, kept the clouds jammed to the right on the histogram.) The highlights are so soft I don't think it would matter if they clipped anyway.

I forgot it went to 2.8 on the wide end. 2.8 is great. I just notice the image gets noticeably mushy if you’re all the way closed down.

Thanks! I guess it’s time to tryout the 4K ?
    I got mine for $700 ?
So it’s best to keep the aperture above F3.5? ? I did shoot a lot of test footage at F2.8..

You will, but it needs to be F3.5 - F8 and it needs to be 4K. I had my best luck with CLOG @ ISO500. Some of the built in profiles are nice if you turn the noise reduction all the way down.
Talking about this camera makes me want this camera again. The colors it produces are just really so nice. Perfect camera to bring on trips, as long as you’re only shooting in the day. The range on the lens is incredible.
