Quite frankly after seeing these tests - this is just an incredible hybrid camera engineering feat. I get why its crippled, but holy hell Canon absolutely smashed all competitors with this. You can bet Nikon is picking this apart to see how they brought it all together. If it remains artificially crippled I'm staying far away from anything Canon.
A simple firmware fix can make this the beast Canon originally advertised. Unleash the beast and I'm back in.

It's a sign that we're flooded with options, but it's really hard for me to say this is a good deal for video shooters. There are better options out there in that price range. If you want to go with Canon you might as well go with the 90D, at least you'll get DPAF in 4K. The better battery life alone is worth the extra $200, not to mention 120p in FHD.

I wish Canon would stop fannying about and just produce a C100 mk3 to rival the likes of the S1H. Put IBIS in and give us glorious 4K 50p (now that everyone else is moving on to 6K) in a XC10 body on steroids.

It is widely known in the camera industry that RED owns a key patent for a cinema cameras featuring compressed RAW.
It is also alleged the technology has featured in a number of past legal claims RED have had over rival camera companies.
Now third party accessory manufacturer Jinni Tech alleges RED "deceived the US patent office" and filed the critical patent late.

Yehouda reacted to Andrew Reid in Why 6k Resolution Is Not Overrated... And Might Be Too Little
It's a numbers game, yes, but still braindead. I am just not sold.
85" utterly dominates a normal room. It's an omnipresent black mirror. 65" is my limit. Most people's limit is 55". Bigger number not always better.
There is barely any 8K content at the moment worth watching. Most TV is still 1080p. There is no big amazing image quality difference between 8K content at 85" and 4K content at 85" when you are watching at normal viewing distances. I've seen the same Samsung 85" you did. Nobody watches TV from 1-2ft away from an 85" screen.
When it comes down to the real world all these numbers are meaningless.
For displays, motion cadence matters more and nobody talks about it. For going large, projectors are more cinematic than large TVs. Colour, HDR, 10bit, contrast, matter more than resolution on an LCD panel for the living room. Resolution matters most on a desktop monitor with close viewing distance, not in the living room.
Whole industry shift to 8K is flawed and will end like 3D did.

Yehouda reacted to zerocool22 in Canon DPAF vs ARRI Alexa Mini with Focus Puller
Focus pullers should not be worried. I mean there are tons of creative decisions that you can do with a focus puller, that you couldnt do with DPAF. Allthough If you are doing a following shot or something DPAF seems to work better and a lot cheaper and faster too. So it depends on the situation, or what you are trying to achieve.

@PannySVHS C300 II codecs are very good for dynamic range. With C-LOG 2 you can easily recover an overexposure of 2 stops and maybe even more. The only case I feel the codecs are not robust enough is when you grade footages of C-LOG 2 in low light.

Now you come and screenshot my 2 worst Instagram shot and try to compare it with your best pics.... Ok. Be careful though with posting pictures of people that are not yours without permission, which I am not giving you by the way.

Yehouda reacted to Andrew Reid in Panasonic S1 4K 10bit video mode to be present at launch with Hybrid LOG Gamma
Overlooked in the first articles about this camera is the 4K H.265 mode of the Panasonic S1. Similar to the Fuji X-T3, this will allow 10bit internal recording in HEVC with launch firmware version 1.0 - no need to wait for the paid 10bit update.
3840 x 2160 is available in 10bit at 24p, 25p and 30p with no crop - it is full frame.
The later paid update is for a higher bitrate 10bit 4:2:2 mode and V-LOG, but in the meantime 10bit H.265 provides the silky smooth colour of 10bit with HDR and much smaller file sizes.

Since the XC10 in 2015 Canon have a very good XF-AVC 8 bits 422 305mbs codec. Why not use it in their EOS R/RP? Even in 5DIV or 1DXII instead of old MJPEG?
    Yes, I know ... segmentation ...

Yehouda reacted to DBounce in Canon EOS RP specs leaked, features 26MP sensor and 4K video
I think you are confusing focusing systems. "Contrast detect" hunts; moving past the point of focus and returning in order to establish sharp focus. DPAF does not hunt... regardless of which lens is used. I frequently use my 24-70mm F2.8, 16-35mm F4 and even my EF-S 10-18 on the EOS R... there is zero hunting. As there is also zero hunting on any other Canon bodies that I have used it on... C200 and 1DXMK2 to name a few. If the body support DPAF there is no hunting.
I'm curious... have you used this camera?
Now a case could be made regarding noise... not on the lenses I have previously mentioned. But if using in-camera mics, the 50mm F1.2 does make a noticeable sound when tracking focus. If recording audio externally, well it's a non-issue.

This noise is normal for USM and there is no solution. For silent focusing you must have STM or NanoUSM.
