    I was naive and I though it was a creative choice to show how nobody would see anything in a night without moon and with dead fearless zombies attacking from the dark zone of torches that would render the night vision of people useless. It was HBO fucking compression and who knows what more. Dammit.
    I was lucky in my work nobody knows anything about photography or video and they ate my theory completely agreeing and all, thinking I was the expert. Better keep this quiet. ?

    I agree with Reaper and Fusion, there are not much alternatives there, although, and depending on the level and if you're used to layers and comps don't discredit Hitfilm. I know is not as powerful as Fusion but I see it growing every year as a viable alternative just not for fast turnaround or high level stuff yet.
    And lightroom, for DAM it depends. On1 is really nice, the price is right and the tools are nice. I feel it's still a little bit clunky, not as polished as say Capture One but as with hitfilm, don't discard it because it looks it's developing quite well. It might be the age but I'm more willing to buy products from developers that listen and help them grow(and I include Blackmagic here). Or it might be my desire to find underdogs and Davids that can bring some fight to big Goliaths.
    For photoshop I rather use Affinity photo but in the open source world see the development of Krita more elegant than Gimp.

    That's my list too. I bought Luminar and it doesn't even generate the catalog on my i3 Mac mini 2018. Go to On1, or Capture one. They work.

    If you want to switch from Adobe, here is my list.
    Lightroom -> On1 Photo Raw, Luminar, Capture One
    Photoshop -> Affinitiy Photo
    Premiere Pro -> Davinci Resolve
    Illustrator -> Affinity Designer
    InDesign -> Affinity Publisher (beta)

    I'm sure they're not hurt by money but is nice to see the discount emails from Adobe. It satisfies so much to click the delete button.
    I guess they're reaching market saturation and alternatives are getting finally viable. On1, Affinity, Resolve, Fusion covers most of what I do and I don't have to pay the price of a small new computer every year to have the privilege of using buggy software.

    It will speed teams and editors process shaving minutes and seconds. I consider it more of a specialized tool. We will probably still be able to use gaming macro keyboards and editing jog wheels for less.

    I tried the Saramonic SR-WM4C but got a buzzing noise. They're 150€ here, so not that cheap and I returned them to save for the Rodelink. This makes much more sense for my small needs and interviews and hopefully it will be good enough!
    I've seen people hanging the nikon's wireless on their shirts and it was awful. The form factor and the idea that I can use a smartlav+ which I have lying around or rely on the on board mic for nervous people is great. Hopefully the on board will be isolated well enough against rubbing.

    199$ It looks like a no brainer for youtubers and streamers or a good, quality alternative to anybody who was looking for -very- cheap wireless system in Amazon... (like me)

    The new Filmic pro LOG2 changes the design of the flair. I don't even know how is that possible.

    I'm not dissing the film. I saw it in the cinema. I think it was 2002 when it arrived to Spain. I knew it was the beginning and I exited the cinema thinking that yes, it was the future but it still had shortcomings. Sixteen years later we have finally profiles that look better than the F900. Just going through the mobile film fest 2018 show that we're still not there but soon is going to be another viable tool for some productions (stealth shooting, shy people or scared of big cameras) without compromising image quality.
    Filmconvert has announced profiles for the  iphones with filmic pro too. I'm just happy I can take less weight and size with Ryanair reducing more and more the stuff we can carry.

    I see your big heavy stuff and I raise it with an excessively overprocessed image in the haste of novelty with my then new XR and a not so much so but still toning it down hotdog portrait.
    I guess I was going overboard with filters and sliders, I'm so much more calm down now.

    I took these today with my Apple XS. First one is a photo, no extra lens, second one is a screen grab from a 4K 24p video with a Moment Tele lens attached. Both when clicked open have pretty amazing sharpness, and the colors are spot on both, and they are right ooc, no editing. Pretty amazing stuff from a phone. The gap is shrinking that is for sure.
    And the 3rd shot is also a frame grab from the same little short I shot and it has amazing clarity on the street signs on the bottom left corner. This Video Smart HDR is pretty damn impressive. And these are all handheld to boot. And these we just using the iPhone photo, video app, not Filmic Pro. Haven't even tried it yet with the new update.

    I didn't wanted to say it. I'm sure once they have the supply chain in control they'll try a second time, improving the mistakes and maybe getting rid of the holographic screen to reduce the price.

    The new update with the XR is simply unbelievable. I wish I had it for the video I recorded for my work.

    We're three now getting rid of our big heavy stuff counting with @webrunner5 , 2019 trend???

    Just coffee with my dripping coffee machine, on-off after five minutes and some lights that change the temperature and dim to let know my children that it's time to relax and get ready to go to bed. No smart speakers eavesdropping all conversations, appart from Siri in the mobile of course, but that now is unavoidable.

    The real problem with IoT devices is internet security. This happened while I was in an internet protocols class and made for some good discussion: https://www.techtimes.com/articles/183339/20161024/massive-dyn-ddos-attack-experts-blame-smart-fridges-dvrs-and-other-iot-devices-why-your-internet-went-down.htm
    How good is the security on your coffee machine? Making coffee one day, being leveraged to attack Twitter tomorrow, and providing a backdoor into your home network the day after. It's worth being wary of cheap, internet-enabled devices with little to no security.

    Yeah I just got my Apple XS and I am blown away farting around the house, the weather here just sucks, I am amazed as to how much better it is than the iPhone X I traded in to get it. I haven't done anything yet with the new Filmic Pro. I have it all, not used it yet. I just got my Moment Anamorphic in the mail today. So with the Moment Tele lens I already have, and the Stedicam Volt I ought to be in pretty good shape. Probably going to need a battery solution and a mike solution also.
    Right now It is the only camera I even own. I sold all my camera gear, lenses and all to get my Dually truck up and running right. Throwing about 4000 dollars into it. Moving south, going to the Myrtle Beach area in South Carolina first. Not sure where I will end up. Kind of exciting to be honest, and scary a bit also. Probably happen the first of the year.

    I'm not getting paid at the moment to make videos, so when I decided to upgrade I got disappointed that Canon R is fragile, not very interesting and expensive lenses, the Sonys are still lacking 50p 4k and a tilty swively screen and the Panas, DPAF. At the end I decided to get an iPhone XR and some moment lenses to try the DOP effect and damn if it's not surprising how versatile is.
    I made a video for the work with a Zhiyun gimbal and everybody enjoyed the content, nobody cared how it was shot or the depth of field. Also I've been taking portraits for my colleagues for Iinkedin and social media and the computational thing with an app like focos is good enough. Phones are already there and the only way I see myself now buying a 1" sensor camera is if they include a mic input and some depth sensor in it. The software on the computer side needs to start using this information too.
    I'm going to wait and see for a year how this develops but I got lazy after this upgrade and every time I see the Nikons and Canons being pushed on youtube I want to buy less and less a big camera.

    I can completely get what you're saying. While I love ILCs, sometimes it's too much to carry for a Short Trip, regardless of how tiny the ILC is. Therefore I am hoping that 2019 sees much better smartphone cameras for photos and also for video. I usually feel iPhones are grossly overrated in the photo and video department, but this last batch had been pretty amazing at both. And the FilmicPro Log V2 seems quite promising to be honest (though the LuT seems to be too harsh on the Dynamic Range).
    If a smartphones gets good photos (dynamic range, low light and zoom), and video (Log Profile, good dynamic range and high bitrates even if it's video a paid App, and preferably 10-bit or 10-bit in an 8-bit wrapper) I would like yo pick up one.
