@tuppTo be clear I agree with you, shooting in LOG is usually the best option for the reasons you mentioned.

Another example where I don't shoot log. Weddings where I am delivering the image to someone else to edit. I just shoot Eterna. It just looks nice off the bat. Usually log is preferred to send to editors but weddings are so dicey. I have no idea who's editing and don't trust them tbh lol.

Its just Canon intentionally crippling their cameras so people will buy their higher end EOS line. Though the crippling seems quite insane at this point. I guess we were all idiots for thinking Canon made a 180.

Shoot HLG, expose conservatively and push the shadow/midtone in grading. HLG has great latitude and BW helps mask the slight chroma noise.

Very true but most aren't experienced colorists. Its why you see so much crappy colored footage out there. People think its best to shoot in LOG or RAW when they'd be better off just using a straight out of camera profile.

The other plus to shooting in a baked in profile is simply speed. If you choose your exposure and look while shooting you don't have to make those decisions in post which quickens the workflow. Of course if you aren't experienced or quick enough you could end up with a lot of bad shots that aren't really fixable.

Weird, that Canon never cashed in on a XC20, with 10bit 4k 1 to 1 readout up to 60p, and perfect HD up to 120p, with old school Clog, same body, 1800 to 2000 bucks. Interchangeable lenses for eos m-mount. Instant classic.

Yep, its a killer. Only shows up in certain situations but when it does it makes footable pretty unusable at least to my standards.

Beautiful! Some micro jitters at the very start but very nice.

Speaking of Voigtlander, I'm (finally) editing the trip we took to India in late 2018 and pulled out a few hero shots and did a basic grade to get a feel for the project and to get some inspiration.
That was the first trip I took with the GH5 and Voigtlander 17.5mm and one of the concerns that I had was low light performance as the GH5 isn't known for it, but it wasn't until I got back to the hotel and looked at this footage that I realised how good the combination really is.
Here's a sample grab of the tour guide when we went to Varanasi to watch the nightly religious celebrations and see the cremations on the shore.

No idea if it was wide-open or not, but this is a basic grade, some NR, and some film grain over the top, no sharpening applied, and it's even got a small negative amount of mid-tone detail.  GH5 was in 150Mbps 4K IPB and HLG.  I can't recommend these lenses enough.

I don't know blockbusters have been around for a long time so have comic books. I think the comic book films are a lot of fun, some better than others.

Lots of "smarter" films come out every year. There are lots of indie cinemas near where I live but I guess that probably isn't the case everywhere. I am rarely dissapointed by the indie films that end up making it to the theaters. Though I won't lie I am a huge fan of large budget action films. They are rarely good but when they are its something special, at least for me.

Where do you guys read no IBIS?
The latest rumors talks about a digital IS function add-on, which coupled to IBIS and lens IS should give similar results to what Canon is offering on R5/R6 (IBIS + EIS).

Sounds like the A7S3 could be outstanding. If it can somehow get around overheating it will be the camera to buy for video. Low light should be incredible.

of course although people report micro hdmi's breaking even with these precautions. I've heard this type of cable plus the locking pins could be a winner.

This takes the stress off of the micro HDMI port even more than just an adapter where the port is still receiver direct stress. Its still worrisome.

Yes, family video is 90% of what I do nowadays,  and 4k 60p is the best format to use to capture the most live You-Are-There video.
Another thing I did is replace all the lamps in my house with 5000K Led bulbs. That solved major white balance problems caused
by window light mixing with indoor lamps, and solved some major color grading headaches.  They looked strangely cool for a few days,
but we became used to them fast (the old lamps look horribly yellow now).
On X-T3 I use the Eterna film simulation at DR 200, but boost the color level in camera. I find it needs no further grading if exposed
correctly at the right white balance, a major time saver.

It should have USB-c output to SSDs like the sigma FP. Micro hdmi on these cameras is just an intentional cripple as well.

Well to be fair the 12k ursa isn't out. Maybe they don't want to take a bunch of calls for a product that isn't even making them any money yet.

Good to see Justin Bieber being productive in his old age.

Interesting test though. I think it highlights overheating issues with small cameras in general, Canon certainly isn't alone. This hasn't stopped tons of people from using the A73 professionally. Tons of wedding videographers use it.

Definitely an extreme heat situation though.

Its not about 12k its about getting really good 8k which is one of the first things mentioned in the Blackmagic announcement. RED has certainly thrived on the high resolution front.

Forgetting about who uses 8k or who might use 12k lets look at what this camera actually offers for the price.

    12k at 60fps
    8k at 120fps
    6k at 120fps
    4k at 120fps
    4k cropped at 220fps
    vs The RED helium
    8k at 60 fps
    6k at 75 fps
    5k at 96 fps
    4k at 120 fps
    3k at 150 fps
    2k at 240 fps

Keep in mind all the lower resolutions on the RED are cropping in on the sensor, greatly limiting the usability. The RED S35 helium also costs $24,500 plus the cost of RED mags.

We need to see the Dynamic range and low light performance coming out of the URSA 12K. If it keeps up with the helium in those two categories then it really will be something for RED to be afraid of IMHO. Lets also consider the amazing rolling shutter performance.

Its less than half the price of a RED, with cheaper storage, and seems to just be a better camera in every way.
So far Black magic really hasn't put anything out there that was this competitive. I think the Pocket 6k could have been very competitive but no one could really take it seriously with the weird ass "Pocket style" body.

I am hearing great things about GEN 5 color science too. It sounds like the sort of brown muddy color issue is gone, greens are vibrant, and no more neon blue color clipping. Unfortunately the Resolve update with Gen 5 is only available for Mac right now.
