The korg nanoKontrol2 has turned up, had it for a few days now. i have watched a few youtube vids, got it working in resolve watched a few more youtube vids now have it integrated with windows. I now have the korg nanokontrol sliders setting the levels of the master volume and inside of windows media player and edge youtube volume levels.
Initially i was using a little midi tray thing called ntTray which i quite liked. The file size was a whole 370kb. A tiny little thing, not sure if it was me and how i installed it or something else as it fell over pretty easy. Next program i found was called midi mixer a larger  84 meg. Still it seems more stable so far.  I'm only scratching the surface controlling three sliders at the moment. still the korg has been a pretty handy addition towards an increased user experience.
Another nice feature in midi mixer is on screen display, so the moment i touch a slider the program that has that slider as its focus and its level is momentarily displayed in the top left corner of the moniter,  very cool.
I do like having a proper fader for the volume rather than grabbing a mouse and having to click on something, So far a nice user experience improvement.

hmm, looks like you have your own model, i feel thats, like an unfair advantage,  😉 and i thought we were taking this outside ?  But considering its summer here, i guess the rest of the world is under 6 feet of snow. Still kudos for putting a something together. I'm still doing my storyboards. 🙄 One of your lighting shots came close to something i am considering doing.
i am not lazy,  i just procrastinate alot.

As anybody who reads my comments already know, I bought a 5D3 last Spring and instantly fell in love with the images I was getting. After almost two years of searching for the right camera for the stuff I was looking to shoot, I found it in the 5D3.
    But...
I am the first person to admit that the post process of ML Raw can be a little tedious and requires a massive amount of storage. Since I am a hobbyist with narrative dreams, I’ve been searching for a second camera to shoot fun little vignettes in between shooting days with my 5D3. Shooting is a form of meditation for me and instantly calms me.
After a couple of cameras, I ended buying an RX10ii on the cheap. Now I had the camera last year but struggled with getting good color from it. This time around, I’ve decided to mostly shoot in sLog2 and Cine2 with monochrome and I am pleasantly surprised by how good the images turned out on my first outing with it.
I’ve always loved B&W photos and movies, but I’ve never really shot much with it, so I look forward to learning and experimenting more with it.
Now, I have been posting around here for a few years and color science, correction and grading are all popular discussions but there is rarely mention of B&W.
Does anyone shoot in B&W anymore? Does anyone have any video or screengrabs that were captured in B&W or turned to B&W in post that they’d like to share? Or even strong opinions for or against it?
I’ll start off with a few screengrabs. The first two were shot in sLog2...

And this one was shot in Cine2...

    Hey kids,
my perfect camera would have been a Lumix G6 with a 100mbit codec. I love the HD coming from it. Once graded, it really looks organic to me. Just the shadows become super blocky in low light due to the light codec. Maybe I could get a GH4 for cheap and treat it like my super G6.:) My Lumix S1 is an image powerhouse. But sometimes I dont feel it challenging me but giving away a great image to easily. The G6 always gave me great pleasure in giving me an image I had to work for hard. My dearest camera still. I shot this years ago but still remember the profile settings. Here it goes, natural with contrast 0, sharpness, noise and colour at -2. Graded the heck out of it with crazy curves. Lens was the cheap and awesome Canon 28mm 2.8 and a focal reducer.

We're still heavily tweaking the mix and grade, edit... you know, stuff, but here's a close to finish draft for any of you chuckleheads that want a sneakpeek of M43 doing B&W stuff.
Everything was shot at f2.8 on three lenses.  Two primes, 24mm and 50mm, from the old Pentax Auto110 series, and the Oly 12-40 Pro.  I had fun with it.  We didn't do much fancy shooting 'cuz it was all one set and we wanted to emulate a 30's movie, but that was part of the joy of it all.
    Oh, GH5 and a EM10iii.  23.96 fps @25ss.  ISO 800, mostly.
What else?  FilmConvertPro using their Ilford400 setting.  Also (god help me never again) RedGiant's misfire plugin and universe transitions.
So, look, small indy films involve a ridiculous amount of compromises along the way just to get made.  It's a small miracle it happened, warts and all.  Believe me, I pretty much only see the warts at this point.
Hooray!  Filmmaking!  (I'll only leave this up for a short time...)

Well, my friends, no Eos M as @webrunner5 assumed but GX85 with one shot of S1 in the mix. For the challenge Eos M might be the camera of choice though.:) Still waiting for my Cmount adapter to arrive.
The lightest camera setup was with the GX85 and a Canon nFD 28mm 2.8 with a focal reducer, heaviest was the S1 with a Vivtar 90mm F2.5 the famous Bokina lens. I shot this last weekend as a leftover from shooting photos and did an edit and grade today. Lighting with two aperture spotlights, the 300d and an Amaran, plus two extra Fresnel Bowens mount addons, with two 150w dedos in the mix. So I hope you enjoy this as a little appetizer. cheers 🙂

the extra time has allowed a crucial piece of equipment to arrive however. Notice i didn't say winning piece of equipment 🙄

I'm on to it kye, don't worry, picked up a piece of corflute probably 600 x 900 that should make for a bunch of reflectors. I also bought some cheap silver / gold reflectors off ebay, bit bigger than a hand. I'm hoping they can contribute as well. Next time i go up to warwick, i will buy one more small light which will take my tally up to three. That will give me a key light, fill light and back light. They are only small lights and for a small lego set they should do ok, i hope.
I figure i can experiment with position  and distance to create a look, for close up shots. Yet to figure out how that equates to wide shots of sets. I doubt my 3 lights will give enough light to fill the set evenly. I presume i will need to buy 3 more larger lights to take it further. Baby steps first.
You will of course notice i have acquired a 2400 x 1200 laminate table top. That is the basis for my workspace. At the moment that wood sheet sits atop a couple of sawhorses. Got a mate who can teach me  how to weld. If that fails i'll either beg or blackmail my brother into welding up a base for it.
Couple of more characters have arrived to help fill out the space. These guys need no introduction 😀

i have one more little guy in transit somewhere, I have plans for a little brick film and i need to add some more characters as funds permit, need six characters all up, not necessarily the above mentioned characters, they where an impulse buy when i saw them lol. Next challenge is to create a walk cycle.
Every time i step outside with a camera, the wind picks up, its hard work taking a decent photo of a flower. To remedy that  i bought a cheap vase and cheap lazy susan. Had some photography clamps, and a black material backdrop arrive. The plan is to hang the backdrop behind the table and shoot some still-life's.

Construction has started on the 2nd shed, film studio / sound stage. Whom am i kidding... my brother with try  use it as a carport for his bus converted to motorhome. Still I'm claiming a corner at least for my own nefarious plans.

Trying to do a lot more with my cameras and other equipment this year. Considering we seem to lurch from lockdown to lockdown, setting up a small studio is a good idea i think.  A short brick film will force me to learn resolve more quickly i feel.  The whole lego thing should work as small set, what works on a small set should apply on a large set, maybe im wrong . Not that i have any plans of a feature length movie.

i was taking a more along  the lines of actual guerrilla shooting, not paying for permits that sort of thing. Mums and dads is quite different and quite obvious as to whats going on.
i'm not sure i'd call educating some security personal a failure. Sure its a waste of 5 minutes of your time however most of these courses are kinda rudimentary, and half the time its a second job for some poor soul. Cant see them covering the differences between mum and dads and guerilla filmmaking in the course material.
For those of us who have nice gear and want to use it. I feel it all comes back to leading from the front. Take your gear use it where you can, sure you will be looked at, sometimes questioned even nocked back at times. For those time it may be wise to have a smart phone as a backup  I reckon we just have to accept the fact that people will need educating.
i do know if you want to clear a room either cough really loud or pull out a camera bigger than a smartphone.    🤣
i had my p4k in the main street of town taking some footage of the old post office which has a large clock set into the tower. It amused me that people where actually crossing the street to go around me. Mostly women, which amused me even more as women generally goto great lengths to look good before they go out, then when they do come across a guy with a camera they head in the opposite direction  😀

I very nearly bought the lomography experimenters kit. Which sounds like what you have ?
Regrettably, i'm like the antichrist when it comes structuring or planning something. Lets not get to too religious on the rules, next someone will want storyboards. 😉 I'll compromise with shooting at f8 if we can get a consensus 🙂 However i'm happy to go with bonus points for peoples artistic interpretation or a different category perhaps.
your shoot in camera comment does make me wonder, supposing a camera comes with extra functionality that maybe other brands don't have, is it forbidden to use that functionality ?  I bought my bm p4k camera for various reasons, no doubt others bought their cameras for other reasons. If you have say, a sony camera that can sing and dance, well i want to see that  😀

Another point to consider, my camera shoots in log, I presume i am ok to use a lut supplied with the camera ? If we cant do anything in post then sending something in log will look kinda flat ?

thats very interesting. thanks for the memory jog although i dont think i saw andrews blog about it before.
I was reading up on the v1 myself last night, different review, different site (sacrilegious i know, right? )  i did read about the burst mode on it, but hadn't connected the dots until you posted that link.
I did find the battery charger and the adapter that allows me to use m42 lenses  on the v1  last night.  As well as the kit lenses i have, so i'm good to go.
Im not sure about the raw format however. There's  no options to change the movie format that i can see. A very quick walk outside and putting it in the correct mode... i think, produces a file with .mov extension  about a second long which is what was expected. For further clarification we'd have to ask Mr @Andrew Reid about the actual workflow oh how to go about it.

There only 4 modes, motion shapshot, smart phot selector, still image and movie. i'm thinking its in still mode. Turn on raw,  turn on the high speed electronic shutter, hit the shutter release button and let rip. Makes the most sense. All the other modes produce a hd 1920x1080 movie or image. I then presume you export the raw images to your dng converter of choice and go from there.
more infomation has come to hand during the day. The v2 version of the v1 allows you to use non oem lenses of any type with the hispeed shutter.  On my v1 only cx or native lenses work with the electronic hi speed stutter it seems.

To sum it up… there’s no rules. No matter the lens choice, camera, grade, resolution, “aesthetic”… whatever it is, if it’s right for the story, and the process to tell it, it’s just… right.
