newfoundmass got a reaction from kye in Panasonic GH6
I've never used a gh5 for my sports work and thought "this rolling shutter is so bad." If no rolling shutter is one of its big selling points, then I can't say I'm be impressed. Rolling shutter is another one of those things that the viewer doesn't notice.
DfD with genuine AI has potential, but we'll have to see it in real usage and what AI actually means in this context. People are dead set on PDAF, and I get it, but I don't know that there's anything stopping DfD from being as good as PDAF with the right processing. If you remove the pulsating, which has gotten better in the most recent releases, and increase its accuracy, you should be capable right?
I've decided to stick with M43 for a couple more years, but don't see myself buying a GH6. I think I'll end up snagging up two used GH5 bodies and selling my G85 and GX85 so that all 3 of my cameras will be the same.

Yeah, social media has become such a detriment to society at this point. I'm constantly blown away seeing adults, some in their 50s and 60s, acting like children and reveling in their ignorance. It's frustrating and depressing all at once.

Yeah, I'll see someone I know say something incredibly disrespectful to me because we disagree on politics, but then when I see them at the grocery store it's all smiles and asking how my family is doing, etc. When I tell them to fuck off (quite literally) they act shocked and confused.
I don't mean to paint all older folks with the same brush, but people that didn't use the internet much all the sudden became super connected once smart phones took over the market and immediately became the shittiest users on the internet. Now your 60 year old aunt spends most of her day shit posting and making casual racist comments on Facebook but wonders why things are now awkward with you on holidays.

Until a couple of years ago. Now people with their full name and with a profile picture of their family, posts in FB wishing death to someone else. It is sad, more than anything.
But adults are turning into rabid teenagers with zero responsibility.

newfoundmass reacted to Andrew Reid in EOSHD is back, and a Merry Christmas from me
Hello to everyone on the forum!
    A Merry Christmas from me!
I hope you're looking forward to having a good break over the holidays and are ready to welcome in 2022. Talking of holidays - I have been having a break from EOSHD for a few months. I went and sat on a hill and finally had time to reflect on my work which is this blog and the community around it. The last video had a lot of support, it's made me really appreciate what I have in a more positive light. I'm mega appreciative of the people who took the time to say how EOSHD has helped them over the years and that they want it to continue.
So that's what we'll do! EOSHD is back.

It's Canada in late November. I'm not sure what you're expecting from that shot... I suppose he could've made it look unrealistic?
I'd be more critical of his shot choice than his grading of Alberta when everything is gray and muted.

A good one of us lost his best friend (his father) and I'd appreciate we might drop a bell... how strangers, or not so much, may we all embrace his pain in solidarity with a good and talented artist.
Altogether can be easier to overcome it.
Insignificant but life is made of a very few contributions.

I met him @Danilo Del Tufo from dvxuser a decade and half ago and we became good friends and collaborators also in real life for a decade now already -- I am producing right now a feature film from a story written by him... the time really flies!

    Un abbraccio amico Danilo,
all thoughts and prayers with you,

It really depends on how much you're looking to spend. I've used a Zoom H1 into a camera before, and currently use two Tascam TM-2X into my GH5 and G85 for sporting events where I want crowd noise. Both those two are pretty budget friendly and are "good enough" though I'd love to eventually upgrade.
I've heard good things about the Sennheiser MKE 440 and is probably what I'll end up upgrading to. Audio Technica also has the AT8022 and the more expensive BP4025 but there aren't a ton of reviews out there for them.

DR is great but also really overrated. It's one of those things that really only matters to us video dorks.

Now I haven't watched the review itself, but aren't we being a bit harsh here?
I find this a useful - if basic - demonstration of the DR and a quick and dirty grade. It's an ugly shot, sure. It's not a Hollywood level production, but if I'm being honest this is the kind of shot I end up with in my edits frequently, and the kind of shot you want to know you can salvage something 'usable'. Not spectacular or perfect, but usable, and in that case this is a good demonstration.
If you're expecting world-class images from both a technical and artistic standpoint then go see Dune in the cinema or watch any number of big-budget movies. This is a low/no budget camera review.
As a content maker myself I can see what he was trying to do, and it was adequate in my view. I don't like this attitude of piling on on somebody for one shot that you personally might have done different.
Or perhaps all of our work is beyond reproach with every shot a masterpiece?

If they were THAT concerned with segmentation they wouldn't release a camera that can double as a cine camera, including RAW.

You can't save crappy shots.  You screw it up in the field it'll never look right.  That's why I'm always left scratching my head as to why shooters are so laser focused on squeaking out .5 stops of DR with their gear.

My fresnel attachment that I use on my Godox COB lights doesn't really do a good job in "full flood", though it works great when in spotlight (which is my primary use for it.) I imagine you'd get better results from a nicer one then?
I'm not on major sets, just small commercial ones, and I've never seen a fresnel attachment being used with diffusion, so I find that interesting. I still feel like the op would be better off using more lights instead of a fresnel attachment. Not to say he shouldn't get one, as they're very fun to play around with and good to have in your kit, I'm just not sure that it's the solution he'd want to go with for diffusion?
