You've never shot it to an external recorder, creamy smooth insane highlight recovery in S-LOG. It's a whole different camera.

Also for me nowadays resolution is secondary to color and handling. I wouldn't go for a FS700 for this reason over it, or the origional Ursa 4.6K. The F3 has those ND's, XLR's and a solid body. I also far prefer SDI to HDMI when using an external monitor.

The S1 to the GH4 is too big of a jump IMO. Panasonic has tweaked their color science substantially since 2014 and pairing the two would be more of a headache than it's worth. The G85 will get you much closer, but really I would try to spring for a GH5. The 10 bit will be a huge help for you. If that's too much, then consider a used original Blackmagic Pocket. HD only, but it's great HD.
Remember, when matching cameras you often have to match the best image to the inferior one. Don't cripple your S1 - get something that can almost replicate it. Just my $0.02.

Despite them having a really nice image from what I've heard Ursa's aren't nearly as reliable/durable as other picks like alexa for cinema use and Sony F5/F55 for high end doc/TV etc.

Really hope that all the R5 expectations be fulfilled.

But it is interesting that all after these years of crippling, everyone is believing in a magic cam from Canon with amazing specs, and even already stating that will sell all their gear to come back to Canon...

I think that a more cautious approach would be wise, and hold the excitement until the specs are confirmed.

Mako Sports reacted to Cinegain in No love for the Canon T8i ?
Is it mirrorless? Does it have sensor stabilization? Does it do 4K60p? Anything in 10-bit? What's the 4K crop like? Will it DualPixel autofocus? Dual cardslot? Full sized HDMI? Mic-in + headphone ports?
Let me save you the speculation. It's an entry level Canon camera. It will have a bunch of regurgitated specs, underwhelming features and a whole lot of impact from the Canon Cripple Hammer. Will feel overpriced too. Especially looking at the competition.

I've been living under a rock/been slightly off the grid for a couple of days, so didn't actually notice anything about it. But it's hilarious, first they need firmware to give people 24p... now they won't go beyond it, lol.

If you read this statement glass half full sounds like 8K RAW is likely (may or may not be limited), with Canon's imagined use case is either an amazing burst mode of 20+ fps and a Olympus/Panasonic mode thats always taking photos and lets you select the best one after the fact. Or down sampling to 4k 4:4:4.
Also Sony isn't exactly pulling a Canon. From a resources management standpoint it doesn't make that much sense to spend money on their imaging department when they make so much money from their sensor department and supply everyone elses sensors anyways (except Canon).
UNlike Canon who stagnated because of overconfidence and cockiness, and probably the sweet bonuses that the executives could write themselves from money saved on R&D (or lack thereof).
Although I hink the trigger for Sony to step up will be the same as Canon's, declining sales of their cameras and lenses as a whole. At that point its too much money lost to ignore.

This could very well be a case of irrational exuberance. Take a look at the camera. We know that Panasonic required a vent on the back of their S1H to do 6k. Look at most cinema cameras that do 6k or 8k. Fans are usually a must unless you have an exceptional heat sink and w/o an EVF. Add an EVF to a camera and you have lots of heat. Try doing 8k for any extended length and you'll have a shitload more of heat. Canon's 1DX Mark III is capable of up to 2,600 Mbs but has a body the size of a 1969 Buick and no EVF. How is Canon dissipating heat on this smaller camera with 8k capability?
I see forums littered with phrases like "Canon take my money!" Really? Not only have we not seen the full specs. No one has been able to test the camera.
    Something seems fishy to me.

The A7s is still my all time favourite camera for both stills and video.
I had one for around four years until it died and no way i can afford another one but my family recently got me a new one for my birthday.

There is STILL no camera i would take over it in really low light (there are now some that are close and even a few that are better in the ISO 3200-12800 range but above that, no, I do not think so).    The A7s has greater DR at ISO 25600 for instance than many cameras have at ISO 6400.

It is NOT a camera for anyone that wants a massive pixel count and forget about AFC but it is still actually a pretty good camera even for daytime use.      Its 1080 is still some of the best native 1080 (some 4k cameras downsized beat it now though) and while auto focus kinda sucks, in one respect it is better than most for AF and that is its ability to focus for AFS in stills at least in almost no light.   (AF in video IS ok if your subject is moving fairly slowly in a limited area EG a rock band that is not too high energy).
Auto WB sucks a bit (depending on the light).      I find the colours from it to be great (closer to realistic than most) and if you want more colour choice, this is a camera that can take the Live View grading APP from Sony (costs about $10) and gives you years worth of combinations in camera.
To me, it shines for low light still and video and that included sports with a manual focus 300 2.8 as I can still be shooting at high enough shutter speeds long after I would have had to put other cameras I have had away. ...I also like walking around at night with a tilt shift lens hand held.
The EVF is good enough that along with the cameras high  ISO, you can see through the EVF (or LCD) in light that i can not see with my eyes alone.
So for ME, it is still as good as it gets but others would absolutely hate it.

I have both an FS5 and A7iii, even though I believe the A7iii makes better looking video, the FS5 while having really bad lowlight performance and autofocus it is easier to use for video due to the ergos + SDI + variable  ND+ SDI.
I'm more interested in seeing what the FX6 has in store over the A7siii.

Newsflash: Almost every large company is run like this. Once a company achieves a certain scale, old school management principles come into play. A strict hierarchy is established and innovative minds tend to get pushed to the bottom. Companies are run by MBAs, not by camera nerds. Small start-ups can run a bit leaner and display truly innovative and disruptive behavior. But that only lasts until it's sold off or becomes a key player in the industry. Then the dogs start chewing at each other.
About Black Magic, I appreciate the image quality on both the Pocket 6k and the Ursa Mini. But the so-called "industrial design" is pretty atrocious and the build quality still leaves a lot to be desired. They would do well to charge a few thousand more and equip their camera with fully aluminum bodies, so that they stand up better to on-set use. And the Pocket has the worst form factor of any camera on the planet. No amount of cages, rigs or battery plates can turn it into a functional piece of cinema equipment. It's like a camera designed by an ancient Egyptian who'd only seen a camera in hieroglyphs.

Would definitely be nice to have more assignable buttons. The 4-way d-pad and AEL button, perhaps also Tone and Colour are not programmable at the moment... Well, the AEL button is but only AE related stuff and focus magnification, that's it.
I'd like also to be able to assign shutter button to take stills in Cine mode, and in stills mode assign video mode button to something else entirely.
The SL2 also has a lack of func. buttons but gets around it with a very clever menu system and User profiles. I can flick through my user profiles for different video modes and LOG at a single touch of a button and wheel of a dial.
    ----
I am thinking of making a Review template on EOSHD so I can give an at-a-glance summary of a camera, and a review sections drop down box like DPReview reviews. Open to suggestions. The colour-coded summary table could cover as an example:
Max resolution, max frame rate, sensor size (i.e. 4K/60p, FF)
Max bitrate, codec options (ALL-I, Long GOP, 400Mbit)
    Max bit-depth (10bit)
    RAW video (Yes, external)
    Media type (SD)
Low light cam? ISO 6400 maximum usable
Rolling shutter: Lower than average, average, higher than average
    Autofocus: Phase-detect in video mode
    AF reliable?: Yes
    IBIS: Yes
Menus: Bad / average / good
Battery: Bad / average / good
Build: Bad / average / good
Character and "feel": Generic / OK / Special
Colour science / skintones: Bad, modifiable to good / average / good / Alexa style good
    LOG: Yes/no
    View Assist: Yes/no
    LUT preview: Yes/no
    Rec. limit: 29 min
    EVF: Yes / no

    And so on...
Would be good to have a database of cameras too, in future.
