Seems people like pairing their S1H with Leica-R lenses... and I'm one of them! I'm shooting a short doc on my brother about his comic book, "I Am Not Okay With This", as it's currently being adapted into a series for Netflix. This will be the second time he's had a comic book adapted into a series. The first was "The End of the F*cking World" which did well, however, he told me that people would see him signing copies of the original comic at cons, and accuse him of "ripping off the show". So this time, i wanted to help raise his profile a bit when "I Am Not Okay With This" is released, and it gives me something to flex my creative muscles on. Anyway, some sample stills... Panasonic S1H, Leica Summicron-R 35mm, 50mm, & 90mm. Not a final grade -- just wanted to get some images out.

Its almost certain to be the case. Efficiency is vital. I have been deep in the code bunker this week, writing a special segment for the EC engine. This will greatly accelerate supporting new cameras, as it minimizes the amount of intervention necessary to conform data (with superior results). As of today, I have a new luma conform tool that is completely free of either hue or saturation distortion, and I am thrilled with it right now (not even Resolve's luma tools work this way). Now, I have to finish the second piece of the puzzle, and (accelerated) camera support will commence.

Its becoming apparent there is a need for an Ursa variation.
It will be a priority once the S is ready

@Andrew ReidDear Andrew, from the article it seems that you are in a good contact with Panasonic reps.
Could you please ask them to include a focus assist (magnification) during recording or at least ask why this so important feature is not included in the gh5(s) and also not in the S1? Sony with their A7x line has it included and you find this feature in all broadcast cameras (Sony fs5,fs7, Canon C100-500)
It is such an important feature for so many people who are shooting documentary, reports, television and so on. If you can't plan a scene focus wise you really need this feature to be sure you are in focus.
You can't really judge focus even in Full HD but especially not in 4k. Also the great viewfinder of the S1 will not help. Its not about the resolution of a EVF or LCD, its about the inability of the human eye to really be sure you are focused.
We really need a focus magnification during recording (even 2x would be great and enough, if more is not possible).
It would be so nice if you could come up with this issue if it happens that you talk with them again. If I write them an email it will not get to the right people. I think it is so easy to implement via firmware upgrade and processing power can't be an issue anymore (at least in the s1) to include it also during recording.
Thank you so much if you could do that. I love the GH5 and will love the S1. But this is such an important feature it nearly lets me switch back to cameras like the FS5/7, C300...

so great that you do this Ed_David
yes but that will take a long time. As uncompressed raw at 4 or 6k is really storage intensive. In my example I shoot around 50-100 hours for a film (documentary) and have to backup the files at least triple on HDD during shooting around the world. With  intensive compressed raw it would now be possible, with uncompressed it will take another 5 years...

Thanks for doing this Andrew.  I'm trying to get an interview with Bruce from Jinnimag and try to get up enough evidence to show Wired and the NYTimes, New Yorker, and Engadget and Variety and Hollywood reporter to cover this story.  Also maybe sharing this news with Sony and Canon, maybe they have industry connections they can use.  I spoke to a journalist at Ars Technica, and he said they don't have the resources to verify the claims in the Jinnimag video - they need a red minimag and a red touch lcd, but maybe they have legal experts they can talk to - or if someone has a patent lawyer we can consult with.
Let me know who wants to help start getting this going.
Andrew, also you should consult with a lawyer about their NDA against you.  I'm sure someone can offer you pro-bono legal advice.  It seems a little fishy.

I agree with Andrew on this. VLog on the S1 is friggin' spectacular. It destroys the A7S, A7S-II, GH5, GH5-S and beats the FS7 with no trouble. Showdows are clean in VLog, even with noise reduction turned down to zero, there is so little noise even at 2000 ISO...even in pitch black night!  (Thank you Panny for giving us actual noise reduction control!!!...I doubt Sony will ever allow that)
My A7S-II used to be my "go to" low light camera but this S1 destroys it. The A7S-II's 8bit readout was always "splotchy" as Hell in the shadows and would clip the blue channel WAY to easily in SLog-3. The S1? No way,...its shadows are smooth as silk. Just super clean and highly  detailed in VLog. V-Gamut protects each RGB channel beautifully too!
Tell me: WHO'S SENSOR IS IN THIS THING???

P.s......4k raw over HDMI is coming. I have a good source on this.

I also "pestered" @Sage in the other thread. Dunno if they appreciate it or not but I do think a growing number of video-oriented folks are going to pick up this camera, whether they also work with the GH series or as a stand-alone.

@Sage As a very new Panasonic S1 owner and being extremely impressed by the image you have created, I'm piling on with others who have said they would be very interested in applying this to the S1.
Thanks, and I will follow this thread.

@Lars: did you see a difference when getting nr to -5?
Also would be -5 for sharpening better in terms of in camera sharpening?
Most people on the gh5(s) hat nc -5 an sharpening -5

+1 on the live recording focusing assist.
I'd also like to see a usable HDMI signal out while shooting in 6k video mode on the GH5.  Though, I'm guessing no more work will be done to the GH5...

It does seem really odd that focus assist is not enabled during recording on the GH5.  I know it might be a hardware limitation, but that just seems really hard to believe.
The omission of this feature is what leads me to rig up a monitor most of the time.
