First test I saw of the z6 in low light for video with firmware 2.0. I would call it impressive.

Fallacious arguments and bias party !

Someone here appropriated too much Schopenhauer's  "Art of being right"...

Mixing up facts and opinions, putting forward the "free thinking" and "independent thought" argument, bringing on the "fear" and political correctness that one bravely overcomes to tell the truth, and wish more "sheeps" could access this level of "awareness"...

Congrats. Flat earthers and trendy conspiracy theorists use exactly the same mechanism...

My 2 cents... Z6 for video could be an excellent camera... used with Atomos Ninja V. N-Log is very very good. Color science is extremely good. We made some LUTs based on Alexa, and Z6 color comes very close. Skin tones, etc. I personally couldn't get this close on any other mirrorless cameras. But there is one huge BUT - they have to fix the HDMI delay which is currently 9 frames (!). Unusable for anything narrative. Looking forward to the firmware update with prores RAW, hopefully they fix the delay. At least Nikon told they are looking into it. I can share the LUTs if anyone's interested.

I follow news about Nikon, Fujifilm, Canon and Olympus. Whenever I read about  any of those brands on DPR the comments are flooded with Sony-fans. The scale of it is pretty incredible. Of course fans of all brands will troll each other occasionally but Sony is on another level.
It is astounding. Its old. Can never have a discussion about anything without Sony-fans (or cockroaches as they’re called in Japan) flooding threads with destructive comments.
The only positive thing is that there’s suddenly an unexpected camaraderie among all the others.

It’s just a matter of making the thread turn according to his pipe and instead of having a constructive and positive dialogue it becomes a meaningless back and forth with someone who doesn’t even own the camera.
    Its jonpais all over again.
I don’t like Sony but I don’t continuously bait the Sony threads. Poor Canon users have had a lot of it lately and I feel for them. Can’t write anything positive without ten people showing up screaming “crop”.

Doesn't look anything like Sony to me. I really dislike Sony colours. As has been said, I don't think there is nowhere near as many serious video shooters with Nikon yet. Nikon has not been a choice for serious video work until now. I love the look of the Z 6 and don't understand how they get such a fat image through so few mbps. But, webrunner5, if you don't like it that's fine, it's subjective at the end of the day. I think the only way you'll find out is if you rent one and see for yourself. No amount of online footage will do that for you.

That’s a grading decision. I have a Z 6 and it certainly does not have crushed blacks. If anything it shows that youtubers don’t change the picture profile at all. Default contrast and sharpening in standard profile doesn’t look very nice, too contrast and sharpened. This was shot in Prores Raw so we’re looking at a graded image. I thought it was pretty nice to see a cool grade.
I’m getting tired of everything looking like it’s shot at golden hour in July even though it’s shot in the north in November.
If you shoot in flat  or neutral picture profile the blacks aren’t crushed. If you dial down contrast and sharpening in the standard profile it gives a very nice image straight away. It’s a wonderful image in Nikon flat. Like the D750 but better.

If I'm not wrong, this is literally the first real world raw video (and graded) that we see. Maybe give a little time until experienced filmmakers try it when it will be widely available.
I share the Castorp's view : Nikon is not widely represented in the video world, so you do not come across the same amount of great footages provided by videographers and filmmakers, as with Sony, Canon etc. Most videos I see are graded in a way that departs a lot from what you got straight out of the camera with the flat profile. Maybe people like Matti do apply their Canon or Sony sauce to the Nikon footage...
None of the attributes you both see in the videos you came across are represented in the flat profile footages I've shot since November...
And no need to argue "You must be the only one than can grade I guess.", cause I grade like sh*t and am still learning ?
Seriously, when I think of all the videos I watch from gh5, bmpcc4k, a7iii... I can see a lot of identic awful stuff that all try to mimic the same style, or use the same lut. I can not conclude that the characteristics of those cameras are responsible for these styles, because I have a lot of other great stuffs to compare with... It unfortunately is not the case with the z6.
But I have personaly found some really good looking stuff that give me hope !

Castorp got a reaction from Kisaha in Canon RF 50mm F1.2L Review - If this is the future of Canon lenses then count me half-in, half-out
That’s not really a comparable lens. The 0.95 is a speciality lens which will excel for low light. It’s a specialised lens for a specific use, just as your 600mm telephoto or macro lens. It’s also a showpiece where Nikon wants to exhibit the state of the art.
The coming Z 50/1.2S would be a better comparison. Unfortunately also a large lens. Comparable in size to the Leica 50mm 1.4 SL or the new Panasonic 50mm 1.4.
The Z 1.8 primes are incredible and in my opinion a perfect balance between size, cost, build quality and performance. I also really like the look of the new F2 primes for the Leica SL. Out of my price range for sure but very nice design (I mean in terms of handling/performance not looks).
Would be cool if the coming non-S lenses are super compact with less resolution but still ok for most uses at an affordable price.

That is why if you want to go Pro you better go BIG time Pro mode. When you are in business, I don't care what it is you have to make a Ton of money to make it worth the effort. Hiring an Accountant here is almost a must because you have to pay out every month for Workman's Comp, Social Security, Insurance, any kind of benefits like healthcare, pensions, profit sharing, on and on. So you can't do that alone. That adds up to an amazing amount of money if you have employees. Add wages, and city, state and federal taxes, and rent or a mortgage on a building and add equipment, insurance for all of it in the mix and you had better be pulling in some serious money.
Most people are WAY better off just Moonlighting and keeping their day job. Here you don't get any credits for Social Security when you are self employed for the years you are. That can bite you in the ass when you retire big time. And the trouble is it takes more luck than anything, right place right time, to even luck into a really good successful business over the long haul. I have had 3 pretty big time businesses in my life and it was an amazing amount of time and hard work, and overall I am not too sure it would not have been easier to just had worked for someone else. Let them fall over dead worrying about it lol.
The problem is it all takes Way too much time away form your family to be in business for yourself when you look back at it. And you can Never get that time back, never. That is my biggest regret looking back. I think most people, me included, just make their life Way too complicated. Less is more in the long run. Fun and happiness is a rare gift for most, and it is really what we should strive for. But we seem to just keep running in the Rat Race. Pretty crazy way to live a life for all involved. Maybe we all need to just go buy a Canon EOS M with ML in it and be happy..

I watched that video and he has some valid concerns and solid praising. Having said that, he is both right and wrong. He's correct in that to get the very best out of this camera, you need to utilize an external monitor to unleash the 10-bit 422 Apple ProRes. Then again, he's a cinematographer and for that line of work, he NEEDS that 10-bit 422 color space for proper color grading. However, he's also wrong, as for the average user, vlogger, or youtube content creator; an 8-bit standard color profile straight out of body image is MORE than enough. Especially for those who need to crank out videos fast.
Odds are, if one is a serious hybrid shooter, you likely already own an external monitor. If for nothing else, my eyes strain looking at the back panel LCD. Using a 5" or larger monitor makes it easier on the eyes and allows for MORE video tools; better focus peaking, better zebras, better waveforms, and offers scopes, 1:1 and 2:1 zooming tools (while recording), offer multiple aspect ratio framing, viewing MULTIPLE audio channels simultaneously, and allows you to add external audio and ultimately bypass the camera's preamps (which often can be far less than clean.)

Well I had a go with a unit yesterday.. and the output kinda blew my socks off!
The 80mb DNG / 300mb TIFF files are simply glorious. The 47MP sensor paired with that 28mm Summilux lens is a match made in heaven.
Build quality is very nice.. but not M series nice. Lens felt a little plasticky. I was also kind of disappointed to find out it is focus by wire albeit with a pretty mechanical feel.
Ergonomics are kind of hit & miss. On the hand I miss a lot of the buttons/dials I'm accustomed to, on the other hand 'less is more' is kind of the Leica philosophy.
Video wise.. the DCI 4K looks really nice. Clean sharp image at 28mm & 35mm crop. At 50mm crop you start to see some aliasing and at 75mm IQ suffers a lot.
Couldn't figure out how to change the shutter speed which was stuck at 1/100th. Also ISO seems locked on auto. Not sure if that was user error or if video just doesn't offer much manual control.
Overall this camera is a compact beauty and delivers some of the nicest stills I've ever experienced. The Leica color science & lens rendering is probably my all-time favorite in a digital camera.
The 28mm with the crop modes is incredibly versatile. I think I could use this fixed-lens camera for 90% of my needs.
Now yes a Z7 + 28mm Zeiss OTUS would probably give similar/better results but that's $8.5K vs. $5K.. and a different type of experience.
I think this camera will be a hit for Leica, the 30 copies at my local store sold out on the first day!
