Mmmbeats got a reaction from Geoff CB in Fuji X-T3 and X-T4 discussion
Person posts amazing looking film shot on sub-£1k camera. Posts that follow mostly highlighting criticisms. Nothing wrong with the observations btw, but do you think we might be a bit in danger of losing our 'wow' factor?

Mmmbeats got a reaction from Thpriest in Panasonic S1H review / hands-on - a true 6K full frame cinema camera
I quite like the idea of shooting the 24 - 70 with the option of a bit more reach on the long end using the crop modes.
I reckon I would probably leave it on the S35 most of the time, using the FF readout for occasional bokehlicious shots.

Very interested in the S1 and S1H as S35 camera. Coming from the Canon C100 and having a GH5 with a Speedbooster as well as several Sigma EFS (apsc) lenses this seems the most cost effective root into new gear. I can afford a new camera but not a bunch o new lenses!
Really looking forward to hearing more about this.

Leaving aside the field of view and lens vignetting differences, the pixel per pixel is simply that, you are recording the individual pixel of the video frame directly with no subsampling involved. I don't know the specs but the 4k FF recording probably comes from a 6K/5,9K readout, so you get better quality/improved color. On the other side, since the pixel/pixel recording would have less processing involved, I assume will be a faster reading, so less rolling shutter. This is my assumption.

What are the likely quality differences going to be like shooting 4K at FF, S35, and pixel/pixel on this sensor?
Noise? Moire? Sharpness? Anything else likely to be affected?

How about punch-in focus magnification while shooting? Still not possible?

The S1H has the potential to be a cult Indy favorite. The price will slowly creep down. Panasonic will release firmware to keep it fresh and exciting.
It has the capability to do ProRes Raw for people that want it (with extra cost and build out).
It seems to have a great 6K image with a strong codec to affordable and ubiquitous SD media.
It has IBIS, which is valued more in low budget Indy stuff, that can be locked down when you want to reduce the floating sensor affect.
I suspect it’s capable of more. Just as the GH5 was and the GH4 before it.

Mmmbeats got a reaction from Geoff CB in Two camera setups for hand-held film-making?
The point at which you're operating two cameras yourself is the point at which you're bound to end up with a certain amount of crappy footage.
Wouldn't it be better to just pan to yourself occasionally, or have another family member wear a small body am or something?

gopros have a small lens however that picture gets wide very quickly which makes it pretty easy to get a finger stuck in the picture somewhere. Dont ask how i know this .The lens would be less than an inch or 25 mm wide so it may fit between your grate. whether the lens protudes down through the grate enough not to block your fov is the question. the gopro fov is about 170 degrees however you can also change that fov from superview to wide and linear modes which are kind of like a crop. the other thing i could suggest is rage cam and one other company can mod your gopro with alternative lenses which would give you a narrower fov as well which may help in your situation.

I think the probe lens will be about it unless you can find a VERY small camera.
You could also just use as long and fast a lens as you can get and get as close as you can and MAYBE it might work like shooting through a cage or wire fence?

Mmmbeats got a reaction from kaylee in Shooting through a narrow grill
As explained, our access is contingent on not doing any rigging in the actual room. We're being granted quite a favour with the location and can't push any more. We just need to make the setup work within the parameters we have.
-
Mmmbeats got a reaction from kaylee in Shooting through a narrow grill
Our access to the location is conditional on not removing the grill or rigging a platform in the room itself, but we have great access from the room above looking down.
I need a reasonably wide shot (essentially something like a 35mm - 50mm FF equivalent). The room is around 14 feet high. It's a geometric birds eye shot - straight down.
None of that is negotiable unfortunately.
Stylistically I need to end up with something adhering to 'realistic' - well controlled distortion, neutral colours, etc.
I've been looking at the Laowa 24mm f/14 probe lens, but it looks incredibly soft from what I've seen so far, and f/14 might be a problem too.

And make sure you don't forget your Zippo for when you are setting up.

One option as you are using an mft camera are the Olympus body cap lenses as you should be able to get pretty flat, although the grip will limit just how flat.
The 15mm would be the one for the FOV that you are after but I would definitely try and have a go with one to make sure you are OK with the performance.
Another option would be the Osmo Pocket as you can get that butted up right to the grille and the big advantage is that you can remote monitor it with a phone so it makes it easier to set up. The FOV is wide but closer to what you are after than that of a GoPro.
The other one would be a 1" compact like the Panasonic LX10/15 which you could mount slightly above and use the optical zoom to get through the grille. As with the Osmo, the advantage there is that you can use the phone app to monitor as well as control the lens. The LX10/15 can take the Cinelike D hack as well so you could match it better to the GH5 if you are using Cinelike D on that too.

Mmmbeats got a reaction from kaylee in Shooting through a narrow grill
Any advice for lens or other technology options for shooting through a narrow gap?
I have a situation where I need to film top-down through a fairly narrow grill (haven't been able to measure the exact dimensions yet, but around 2cm (1 inch) width.
I only have access from above and need to film the scene below without seeing the grill mechanism itself.
I'll be filming the majority of the piece on a GH5S. I'm looking for options of how to get this additional footage. Lightweight and simple to rig are important considerations.
So far 3 things come to mind -
- A probe lens, but these don't seem to work very well as regular (non macro) lenses.
- A go pro pressed up against the grill, though I really don't like the loss of technical control they offer
- A high-end phone camera with a thin lens attached - totally new territory for me
Anyone have any thoughts or experiences? Bearing in mind this will be for a professional (non broadcast) production.

Mmmbeats reacted to BTM_Pix in GX80/85 External Microphone Input Modification (if you dare)
So, I've happened across the service manual for our old friend the GX80/85....
A while ago, a brave soul on DPReview cracked open his LX100, located where the internal mics connected and made a breakout cable.
Its documented here
https://***URL removed***/forums/thread/3845240
So with the aid of the newly acquired GX80/85 service manual, I had a look to see where the mics were and was there a similar potential.
The good news is that there is.
The mics themselves are located under the hotshoe .
The service manual provides all the information you need to trace the signal and connect a break out to your own connector. You could conceivably do the same for the speaker output and make a headphone port if you were so inclined.
You can use this IR mod guide to get you going with the cracking open the case.
https://www.lifepixel.com/tutorials/infrared-diy-tutorials/life-pixel-panasonic-lumix-gx85-diy-digital-infrared-conversion-tutorial
And then take it from there with the service manual I've attached here to do the rest of the steps to get to the hotshoe removal.
LUMIX GX85 Service Manual.pdf
Now, I'm no expert on consumer law but I have a sneaking feeling that doing this mod might invalidate your warranty a little bit so its all at your own risk.
What we could really do with is someone who already has a completely dismantled GX80 to try this out for everyone eh @Andrew Reid ?

On an unrelated note, do you still have that GX80 in pieces as per your Twitter link picture for this article ?
If you do, I've discovered something interesting that you might want to look at if you fancy an external microphone mod for it.

The market for weeding videos hasn't really matured yet. Hedge trimming might work, but weeding get's a bit repetitive watching after even just a few minutes ?.

Im sorry if our discussion made it sound as if we where putting down the work you do. That was never my (and I suspect anyone else) intention.
It was merely a side discussion about how I have huge respect for you guys shooting weddings but that Im at the same time very glad I don't have/need to make them. Because they are simply not my cup of tea to watch and/or make.

Strange opinions here,
the couple received a 1 min cut for FB,
3 min trailer( in this case he is a big Mustang Fan and a crazy person, so the cut is how he like that)
a 15 min cut
and 45-60 min reportage of the hole day ( mixed original sound and music )
We have a very funny time, nothing staged, simple let do the couple what he like...

Did you just say fam? ? ?
eta: Just seen your location, which makes it less likely you meant to say fam. Pity.
