Jimmy G got a reaction from Video Hummus in Panasonic GH6
Another wishlist item for GH6 (and future S-Series cameras) would be for "Proxy-to-SD/RAW-to-CFExpress" simultaneous recording (as already exists in the market), I'm a big stickler for no external recorders or other extraneous gear or boxes or wires or other tree-branch-snaggable doodads hanging off my camera adding weight and creating water-and-dust in-points when I'm out "bushwhacking it" for a birdie shot!
[rant] I'm PO'ed beyond words that I have to purchase and deal-with an external recorder and all of the ridiculous (aforementioned) caveats, costs and constraints to get the most video "juice" out of my 2xS1's...an extra $1k+ in gear and inconvenience, weight and hazard just to record either 10-Bit 4:2:2 60P or ProRes Raw? Really? I'll pay the extra $1K if that's what it really should cost, just put it all in the d*** camera! The folks that still need to play with all of their needed external hookups can still carry on as before! 🙂 [end of rant]

I'm really excited for M1X or M2 powered Macs, especially a refreshed future Mac Mini. As far as video editing is concerned, the MBP 13" just eats H265 without breaking a sweat...on battery power for 3+ hours with 20% battery remaining.
The performance (video editing) is amazing, but the power efficiency is what really impresses me the most and what really makes the new M1 powered Macs impressive. I have an Anker USB-C PD battery bank that can output 30W charging, adds 94Whr on top of 58Whr internal battery in the MPB, and could probably power this laptop for over a week or more, even with some video editing sessions. Which might be handy for people that might be off grid or traveling where mains power is either spotty or non-existent.
I can't speak for Premiere Pro but in FCPX I have background rendering turned off and viewer set to Better Quality. I can throw in 4K H265 10-bit 4:2:2 at 480Mbps ALL-I (from R5), apply the Canon Rec709 WideDR LUT and even Image stabilization and play back with no dropped frames. Everything cuts and slices and moves around the timeline without any hiccups. Its so so nice.
PC will get there and probably surpass performance but probably not power efficiency. So exciting times for Mac laptops in any case.

    Hi all,
My heart goes out to everyone whose livelihood depends on this technology, tough, nay, difficult and challenging times, indeed. Being "just a retired fellow who likes to play with cool toys and try and make something with them" my biggest hit during the pandemic was having to sandbag my night college FCPX class this past spring when in-class learning turned into an attempt at virtual learning...I imagine I took an incomplete on it, haven't had the heart to check. (sigh) I would very much like to retake the course when the campus reopens and I feel that the pandemic is on the wane and I can get tested for the antibodies to determine whether I should get a vaccine or not. My hopes and expectations (here "in the States") is that our new administration will prove more competent and honest in dealing with this pandemic than the previous one and, in those regards, things are looking hopeful.
In the meantime, after a fraught year of worry for my immune-compromised daughter and S.O. (and countless friends and loved ones) I'm just beginning to get my head back into my nature/wildlife shooting and have reinvigorated my day-by-day commitments to "just get out there" and put myself in the way of beauty (as the film says!) and grab some footage and stills. It's proved to be good medicine, too easy (it sadly seems) to have been able to allow depressiveness and worry keep me on the couch. I wish everyone future success with their own personal challenges.
My biggest challenge since getting "back out" is dealing with those (sometimes-indignant) non-mask-wearing folks who've allowed themselves to be fooled into thinking that doing so has been some grand conspiracy to rob them of their civil liberties. Losing one's life and/or becoming gravely ill because of the carelessness of others is an attack on one's civil liberties, sad to discover that this conversation is actually necessary, so, I've taken to politely asking that they do so. Unfortunately, a few local businesses (deli, laundromat, etc.) have been lax in abiding by our State's (NY) Covid requirements and I've had to have conversations with those proprietors as to why they will not see me in their places of business any further...this pandemic has been an education in seeing how others show respect for their neighbors, and in the case of business owners, their patrons and employees and their own families.
All that said, my mental/emotional state has seen a marked upswing since becoming active again, as has my physical health...something to be said for fresh air and sunshine and a sense of purpose and desire! Haw!
Best to one and all, 🙂

Based on the link below, I'm thinking that the conversion from FCP7>FCPX is not a necessary step, seems that the FCP7 XML file should import into PPro with a few caveats (mentioned in link)...

Curious how big your FCP7 project is, and where you're located? (i.e. how do you envision providing someone with the project and all of the media files to make this happen?) Also, NSFW or SFW? (Need I mention why?!) :)

This immediately reminded me of an incident from some years ago when my (then teenage) nephew grabbed both my brother's and my twin DCR-TVR820 Hi-8 Sony camcorders and began walking around holding them together, best he could, filming everything at a family event...his goal was to be able to shoot a "stereo 3D movie"! Interestingly, my brother later took that footage and was able to create some single-frame stereographs! I love watching this sort of out-of-the-box experimenting!
Regarding 8K/10K footage...too bad Panasonic didn't provide their S1R with enough electronic horsepower to give us some out-of-the-gate 8K UHD (7680 x 4320) or Cinema 8K (8196x4320) with that gorgeous new (8368 x 5584 Photo) sensor...though I expect this is all in the pipeline for future model releases. Hi all,
Still waiting to see what my college is going to do with our lab-intensive FCPX class (I could do my assignments from home but I fear that the majority of my fellow students need to do their homework on campus). In the meantime, just acquired a colorimeter and will be working on finally getting my monitors properly calibrated. Also looking to do color-correction testing on my cameras using the X-Rite Video ColorChecker that came with the kit. Continuing pre-assignment work on my student project and preparing my shotlist along with a variety of scripting ideas (choices) I've worked out for the footage.
Other than that, we're keeping up on our antivirals (Garlic, Ginger, Oregano and Turmeric) along with some serious anti-oxidant dosing (gotta love that Vitamin-C) and keeping tabs on my immune-compromised at-risk family members.
Relieved (as much as is possible with this situation) that the ECDC makes note that part of their "Discharge Criteria" is a "Serology: appearance of specific IgG when an appropriate serological test is available." test which indicates that a healthy immune system can mount a proper defense...
Discharge criteria for confirmed COVID-19 cases - COVID-19-Discharge-criteria.pdf:
    https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/sites/default/files/documents/COVID-19-Discharge-criteria.pdf
...all the more important that we all do our part and protect the elderly and those with pre-existing immune-compromising health conditions so as to not overwhelm our health care systems, but, more importantly, to keep the at-risk out of harm's way.
Of gravest concern (and what gives me nightmares most) is the lack of proper facilities globally to deal with a >1% CFR (mortality rate), which would mean...for an unchecked spread that for every 100,000,000 million people infected there would be 1,000,000 dead. Case-in-point, here in the U.S., we are woefully under-prepared for anything of that magnitude with "96,596 ICU beds" within our system currently available (as reported today by The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) here)...

Please stay healthy and take care, one and all, and do what you can to help protect the at-risk population from falling victim to this virus.

Here in Italy we are in an almost total lockdown. Shops closed, pubs closed, schools closed, church service reduced, public events canceled, sporting events canceled, public transport reduced and so on. And this until April at least. We even need a valid reason to go outside in case the police ask (and they do), with valid reasons being work, health problems, purchase of food, visiting a sick relative, going back home and things like these. I have never seen my country so empty. You really do see not many people around, which by Italian standars is quite strange. You can also see people going around with a mask, which has never been a habit here, and people not giving a hug and a kiss when meeting each other, which instead has always being a common Italian habit.
I also think that this virus is still a flu, even though quite a strong one. And being a flu (that is low mortality, high diffusion), I guess the number of people being infected is way more than the number found with the test. The test doesn't give you a real number of total cases, just the number you found and a rough estimate on the population. Probably there are many people who got infected but never got sick, and others that, even if sick , were just having minor symptoms, like the ones normally associated to a flu or a cold. Otherwise it's hard to explain such an explosion of cases in the past 10 days.
Other European countries are just 2 weeks behind us and should lock everything down now, not in two more weeks. Spain is having a surge in cases now, 3000 already with a population half the Italian one in a country twice as big. This virus is not so dangerous by itself if you are not already weak  for other reasons (age, cancer, hearth problems, diabetes, etc.) but it can have a strong impact on the healthcare system.

    The facts behind the panic:
Corona virus death toll so far after two months of existence: 3000 persons Mortality rate is about 2-3% and old people are the most vulnerable, about 80% of deaths recorded were from those over the age of 60, and 75% had pre-existing health conditions including cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. (source: WHO) What should really be a cause of concern:
Nearly 1.35 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,698 deaths a day. Flu Kills 646,000 People Worldwide Each Year. 1769 per day average Stroke killed 5,000,000 people worldwide in 2016 Nearly 40,000 People Died From Guns in U.S. in 2017 Leading causes of death in the US in 2017:
Heat disease: 647,457 deaths Cancer: 599,108 deaths Unintentional injuries / accidents: 169,936 deaths So we may want to take a huge chill pill. Eat healthy, double check left and right twice before crossing the street, put the seat-belt on and stop worrying about a small pandemic of a not so dangerous virus. That being said, the public safety measures and large gathering restrictions are totally justified to prevent the spread of the disease, Photokina or the Olympic Games are clearly not a priority at this point.

I spent 5 minutes on the few first posts looking for some sort of logic, background and credential but I found none. Therefore, I didn't waste my time reading 900 posts on reddit from anonymous sources and the conclusion from wacko ELI5 neither. Unless you can provide better source, which I tried to do before (but it didn't spark any interest I see), I'm not going to bother with borderline conspiracy theory. Yeah, I can run the number in Excel but facts and suspicions are two different things.
As for your twitter link... Who is this person? We don't know. But the short bio says enough "Fraud investigator preparing for the Elon Musk criminal trial." Of course, no real name, no website, nothing... So many experts on the internet!

Yosuke Yamane has said there won’t be 8K soon from Panasonic, wether that means this year or not until after the Olympics.
I believe the only contenders for 4:3 STARVIS sensors that @androidlad has hinted at is a ~42 MP sensor and a ~54 MP (quad-bayer design?).
With the Covid-19 heavily affecting production of parts and supply in most manufacturing sectors, I feel like we will get an announcement but may have a much later launch.
When you look at the GH5 today, a 2017 camera, I find it absolutely amazing it’s still a top tier camera.
5K open gate, 6K anamorphic, 4K60p, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal, unlimited recording, waveforms, great audio, dual UHS-II slots, 400Mbit All-I,  built-in time-lapse, and the list goes on! Even a fucking stop motion mode!
Hopefully Panasonic continues the legacy and truly gives us something special. I love MFT and as you can see, it makes trades offs that give us all of the above I listed in a weather sealed, relatively compact, workhorse of a camera.
Meanwhile Sony users are STILL waiting for 10-bit in a A7 body...

Of course, after all this, does anyone actually pay attention to this figure anymore?
I mean, in most situations you're using an ND anyway, so throwing away the vast majority of the light.  Then in those rare cases when there's no ND because it's low light (scene lit by candles, outdoor night scenes, etc) we simply adjust aperture / ISO settings (according to the priorities of the production, equipment performance, and artistic direction of crew) and then adjust the NR processing in post to match amounts of grain.
Even in cine-lenses, I'm only looking at the T-stop and thinking "the F-stop is at least that large" to try and understand what DoF the lens will have when wide open.
