There once was a camera built on deceit
Who's video features were said to be sweet.
    But amongst all the clamor,
    Came Canon's Cripple Hammer,
And now we know it really doesn't overheat.

About having to manually put all your settings in...
Imagine if someone had already written an app that uses Canon's API for testing this overheating and that could also reset all those settings in one go when you haven't used the battery reset workaround that I certainly never advocated using?

This week CDA-TEK and I are developing an Android app for the Canon EOS R5, which connects to the camera via the Canon API...

I don’t get all the negativity.
This is a very sensible camera from Sony as long as it doesn’t overheat and ruin a real world shoot. Everybody wanted a FF 4K60p 10-bit camera. We have it now. With excellent AF, ALL-I, log, no pixel binning in sight (!) and hopefully no overheating in practical terms.
Sure, the flip screen is low resolution and rubbish. The menus are straight out of kindergarden classroom. And its only 12MP. Who cares. It’s about the sausage in the end.
I hate to say it but Sony is probably going to be the company to give us that internal eND in a mirrorless body someday.

I think the lack of PDAF pretty much killed off most of the market for the A7S II after the A7 III was released.
When you also look at how much flack Panasonic cameras get for their autofocus performance, I'd be really shocked if the A7S III doesn't have PDAF.
So far though I don't believe there are any rumours one way or another on this factor.

Grumble reacted to IronFilm in No culture or heritage in Nikon's Z series
Am going to go against the grain here of what most in the forum think, and say that the two most important cameras for Nikon to release next are not the likes of a R5/S1H/a7Smk3/etc competitor, but instead:

Nikon Z30 that is priced sub $400 (including a kit lens).

Where is the rest of the specs of this dream "Nikon Z30" camera?

The only spec about the Z30 that is important is that price, almost nothing else matters. Don't care if it is a 20 or a 28 megapixel sensor. Don't care if it has IBIS or not. Don't care if it even has a mic input or not. Don't even care if it has a flip out screen or an EVF or not. Shock horror, don't care at all if it has 4K or 120fps slow motion!!

All the Nikon Z30 has to do is hit that sub $400 price point. Because the buyers of these cameras don't care about much else. And the harsh reality is cameras like the Canon T7/M6/M100/etc sell a lot! And any mount system which can get many many many new users into it, is going to be a healthy strong system into the long term.

Nothing would make me happier about the Nikon Z system than to see a camera released which can match, or even undercut, Canon's low end pricing.

Of course if Nikon can throw in even a couple of small extra specs as a cherry on top, like a mic input, 4K (even if it is D500/Z50 type 4K), and unlimited recording, then you'd get heaps and heaps of vloggers buying one for their studio camera, or 'hybrid weddingographers' (TM) buying one as their B / C Cams to use alongside their main Z6/D780 camera bodies.

The most important lens the Z System to release next? That's a Z Mount version of their Nikon 35mm F1.8G DX, as that was a strongly compelling point in favor of Nikon DX over Canon EF-S. Because Canon completely lacked an affordable Normal FoV EF-S prime to start out with as your next starter lens purchase after your kit lens.

(I'd argue Nikon's 2nd most important lens would be an affordable and compact 50mm f2 FF Z Mount, because their Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S Lens is huge in price, size, and quality. Some people want those first two to be really small, and don't mind compromising on the last point if that's what is required. An affordable compact 50mm would be welcomed by both Nikon Z6/Z7 owners looking for a small travel kit, and by newbie Z30 owners too)

And the other camera which is important for Nikon to release for the Z System?

Nikon Z50s, which is basically just a Z50 with IBIS and without the 4K crop the Z50 has. Nothing else is needed (although unlimited recording or 10bit output would be very welcome too, and a flip out screen instead of the silly flip down screen!). That would create the competitive "vlogging camera" that the Z50 (and G100!) was not. Not just the "vloggers", but the rest of us too, I think the Z50 surprised us that is largely was a D7500 in a mirorless body (awful crop + no IBIS) after the Z6 gave us no crop and IBIS.

So just give us a Z50s with IBIS and without the crop!! That's all we want. (after all the likes of say an a6600 does that, yet lacks 10bit etc. At least Nikon be competitive against Sony's APS-C mirrorless, even if you're not beating the GH5/X-T4/etc of the world)

Well at least no more is needed in a Z50s from our biased videographer perspective.... I think from a photographer's perspective the Z50s should be dual SD slot and other stuff that Nikon D7x00 (which is where the Z50 is priced at) users expected such as a Commander Mode from the internal Z50 flash that was missing.

It really is asanine. They could literally have taken the GX85, just added a mic jack and a flip up screen, and they'd of had a more compelling "vlogging" camera.
The 4K on the G100 looks so soft, not to mention the crop.
It really is like Panasonic decided to do the exact opposite of everything that helped them become popular. Remember how insane it was when they released the G7? And how crazier it was when they released the G85, which is STILL an excellent camera almost 4 years later?
Really can't imagine what they were thinking here.

Grumble got a reaction from Kisaha in Clearing up the utter bull**** in this Tony Northup Panasonic S1 video
I've had a hands on with the S1 and S1R and there is a lot to like about them. The viewfinder is amazing, menus are well laid out, button and dial layout is fairly sensible (though I wish the playback button was on the right hand side of the body). However the ergonomics of a camera is something that's very subjective. Being that I have small hands after being out shooting with the camera for around 30 minutes it became painful to hold as the grip was too large (for me). Also the body cap is really tricky to take off the camera as it's really thin and hard to get a grip on it and that's with my deft pickpocket sized fingers! Thankfully I rarely ever really interact with body caps once a lens has made it's way onto the body, but it is still an ergonomics issue.
By the same token I know people with larger hands have problems with the size and shape of the Sony cameras, which I find the most comfortable to use if the full frame options.
It's great that there is choice on the market but it really irks me when people say the ergonomics of camera x are better than y when it's really subjective and personal to each individual.
I wish Panasonic all the best as I think they've put together a pretty decent overall package.

This is too low. The un-hacked NX500 shoots that, and that is a 4 years old tiny camera that cost 750€ kit when new. This is too low for a 2019 un-released yet, camera. Also, the NX500 can shoot double, or more, than that, and 2.5K also, with the hack.
72 H265 is a lot better than a similar number in H264, but certainly no 144Mbps. No way.
Panasonic said it, this is a photo camera first, that can do alright video too. They didn't lie!
I believe the power of the consortium are the total lenses that 3 big companies can offer on a short period of time, but this is still to be seen.
Do not see myself as an early adaptor in any of those! P4K or Z for me.

Just got my II-Pro today. WOAH!,...the image quality is LIGHT YEARS ahead of the old Mavic Pro. Noise processing is fantastic. Shadows are clean and not washed out. No 15 frame temporal NR pulsing. If you add +1 on sharpness, noise reduction backs off even more. This camera looks VERY detailed on both FOV and HQ crop modes.
Even better news....the stability of this aircraft and it's ability to perform flawless yaw movements is like none other that I have flown. I have flown, Mavic Pro, Mavic Air, Phantom 4 Pro,  Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 and Inspire 2. This one is THE winner and is absolutely buttery smooooooth. Woah!
It's clear to me now that you can't judge any detail of this camera on YouTube. You have to download actual card files to really see this thing.
Will include some downloadable clips tonight.
Waiting on my Zoom arrival tomorrow.

There is a good chance this is a line skipping or pixel binning process. It's hard to say for sure though. We know that Sony has created a high tech "full pixel readout" for their fantastic scaling engines but DJI does not buy Sony SOC's. DJI buys Sony sensors and uses Ambarella image processors on Phantom and Mavics.
The original Mavic Pro used a dinosaur Ambarella A9 processor that has the absolute worst temporal noise reduction algorithm. It SEVERELY scrubbed the life out of everything below middle grey it's temporal analysis artifacts caused a "pulse" every 15 frames. Shadows are 90% washed, scrubbed and flattened SEVERELY! (a lot of people blamed 60mbp/s h.264 when it was really that disgusting noise reduction circuit to blame)  Total junk chip that dates back to the GoPro 3. The Phantom 4 Pro uses the Ambarella H1 and it's pretty good. The Mavic Air used the Ambarella H1 and doesn't suffer that same noise reduction Hell that the Mavic Pro does and gives you 100mbp/s too.
Today we have the Ambarella H2, H22 and H3 chips which are far more powerful than the H1 now. It's going to be interesting to see what video processor that DJI used for these new Mavics. The Ambarella H3 can do 4k at 120fps and 8K at 30p!
It's very possible that DJI is making these motherboard designs usable for the new Phantom 5 too. This allows them to buy H3 or H2 chips, do all the programming work together and only activate features the need for each model and leave others hidden. This saves lots of programming man hours.
To see this HORRIBLE Ambarella A9 vs Ambarella H1 noise reduction lab analysis comparison, check out my video here. I think it will answer a lot of people's questions about DJI Mavic image quality problems. It's NOT 60mbps vs 100mbp/s like we have all though for years.

p.s....DJI is using H.265 HEVC but they are only using "main" profile and NOT "high" profile. This means it is only using a fraction of the HEVC tool sets and calculations that are available to the full HEVC/H.265 specification. So,...the "50% gains" over H.264/AVC are reduced even further. This is a "light" or "partial" HEVC profile designed to keep calculations per second lower and easier.

Grumble reacted to BTM_Pix in £30 DIY EVF & Front Facing Vlogging screen
This was originally in response to @IronFilm asking in the Blackmagic area about a cheap screen for vlogging on a BMPCC but thought it might have some interest for other cameras too.
Plus, I've moved it on to be just a bit more than a vlogging screen as well.
    So...
This is all based around of the 3.5" monitors that are designed for the Raspberry Pi.
It is completely barebones but supply it with an HDMI feed and some USB power and it'll do the job for you.
I just put it in a cheap phone hotshoe mount and voila, cameras like the GX80 here can have a front facing vlogging screen.

If you want to be posh then you can have it in an acrylic case for a tiny bit more !
Because of its resolution, you're only going to want to use it as a framing and a "is this thing on?" aid but if thats all you need then its adequate for that.
I've tested it with Panasonic (GX80/G7), Canon (EOS-M), Sony (RX100), Nikon (D500) and Fuji (XT-2) cameras but I can't vouch for it with all cameras. Its got a fairly low res screen but the the cameras I've tested it on scale their output but with the JVC LS300, you have to set it 480 and there may be others out there like that but for £12 the worst thing that can happen is you've got a handy little plug in HDMI cable checker.
There are a gazillion sellers so take this one as just an example
EDIT >> ORIGINAL EXAMPLE LINK DIDN'T HAVE HDMI SO CHANGED TO NEW EXAMPLE - SHOP AROUND FOR BETTER PRICE THOUGH
    https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/1080P-IPS-3-5-inch-HDMI-LCD-Screen-Display-for-Raspberry-Pi-w-Acrylic-Case/382391593643?epid=8015535815&hash=item590850aaab

So, the additional part is that this morning I've been busy with the gaffa tape and the lateral thinking and turned it into a full blown powered EVF.
I'm using the loupe that comes with the Sigma DP0 but any old £12 DSLR one off eBay will do and you can supply power via a usb power bank and in this example I'm even running it off a little box that gives you USB power from 3 AA batteries.

Once you have it like this then you can then put it on an arm or whatever to make a fully fledged adjustable system. My loupe has a plate underneath for mounting it to the tripod thread of the camera and a lot of the cheap DSLR loupes have this as well for adjustment which makes it easy to attach an arm.

I have to stress that the resolution is not all that so take it on the merits of it being a cheap and cheerful way of adding a vlogging screen or a more flexible EVF than your DSLR offers for those occasional times when you may need them without having to invest a load of money and you won't go far wrong.
For the LS300 though, which has an utterly abysmal EVF that is so bad that you will actually question whether its faulty, then this combo actually completely smokes it.
    To recap
    Screen : £12
    Loupe : £12
    Power : £3
    Mount : £3

Some of us with smaller hands actually like the size of the A7 series of cameras. Before to get one of the higher end models you had to get some large and even mid range DSLRS feel massive and awkward. You can make the A7 a big larger with the grip but it's hard to make a camera smaller than it already is.
It's great to finally have some different size options available across the market, it's highly unlikely there will ever be a one size fits all camera unless it's modular.
