My 12K URSA arrives in two days and I’m beyond stoked to play with this thing. Honestly it has a lot hype to live up to (for me personally)

I can't compare it directly to the P4K as I don't regularly shoot with one. But it compares quite well with the P6K and the Alexa. As I said elsewhere the P6K has 1.3 stops more range in the highlights at IOS800 when highlight recovery is enabled. But the Komodo has nicer finer grained noise with no CMOS smear.
I'm getting pretty much the same image from both. The P6K requires a Rawlite OLPF filter though.
Usability wise the P6K is maybe a bit nicer. So much quicker to shoot with assignable buttons, 2 sec startup time.

Some of the best Komodo footage so far and a great review (aside from the misreading of the Xyla chart):

I was excited for the Media Devision video and watched it in full the other day. A few months ago I finally put together a new FD lens set that I converted to EF mount and de-clicked: 20mm 2.8, 24mm 2.8, 35mm 2, 50mm 1.4, and 85mm 1.8. I also have the 35-105mm 3.5 and 80-200mm 4 zooms but I haven't converted them. And I have a really shitty copy of the 24mm 2 that maybe I'll get repaired if it's not crazy expensive. The nFD lenses have been my favorite lenses for a long time, so I'm satisfied with the little kit I have, even if it is the "budget" option vs "Luxury" option. They're still sharp yet subtle and pretty.

Media Division released another video, I bet many of you already watched it. This time they are examining the Canon FDs and their similarity to the legendary Canon K35s. It's one hour and 24 minutes long, and holds the same quality as their video on the C/Y Carl Zeiss video.
By the way, there's a segment on removing yellow tint on thorium coated lenses with a cheap Ikea lamp @ 1h15m. I thought you might be interested @mercer

@Video Hummus I feel you. That 60mm looks like the best resolving of the bunch. Holy, what quality at 0.95! Makes me want to give my 90mm f2.5 Vivitar 1 the time it deserves. I second Jordans post, what a review that was. I watched it without sound. Fantastic! Thanks for posting!

Ignoring the absolute numbers for a moment the interesting thing is just how much RED overstate DR compared to the others quoted.

I found that nothing in camera specs is not so much elusive and subjective as trying to measure DR in some sort of experimental condition - after camera crosses certain high threshold for resolving demand inside-outside space (or shadow to bright sunlight) range that is aesthetically relevant (I mean not looking from deep cave to harsh midday desert sun). Simply, when crucial distinctive variable is "noise", there're too  many subjective variables that are include in someone's impression. So, the most and only relevant to me are tests strictly side by side where we can more evidently judge also (or above all) a "quality" of DR.
For example, I already posted this IMO interesting test in a dedicated thread, so I apologize for  quoting it here, just to illustrate my opinion

I found a Xyla chart test of the Komodo on the FB user group. Thought i'd download the R3D and put it in a timeline to compare against Cinema 5D's test of the Pocket 6K. I'm no expert, and obviously these tests came from different sources, but it gives a fairly accurate result of what to expect.  Id like to get hold of the BRAW still to compare them slightly more closely.

Left is Pocket 6K. Right is Komodo.

Cinema 5D rated the Pocket 6K at 11.8. (Blackmagic Claim 13)
I would put Komodo at 12.2 (Approx) (RED claim 16.5+)
Cinema 5D rated the S1H as 12.7 (Panasonic claim 14)
Gerald Undone rated the A7s iii as 13.0 (Sony claim 15)

JordanWright reacted to BTM_Pix in Jinni.Tech vs. RED Part 4 (1hr long)
Whilst the latest instalment was largely focused on the administrative aspects and an implied interpretation of them, I think its worth remembering how this all started and what caused Jinnitech to go down this rabbit hole in the first place.
This is one of my own "Made In USA" 128g REDMAGs.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, for a product to qualify as "Made In USA" ....
"The product should contain no — or negligible — foreign content."
    https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/complying-made-usa-standard
That Toshiba SSD being made in the Philippines and it representing far more than a "negligible" part of the product clearly suggests that it disqualifies it from being able to use that claim.
And thats before we get to the issue of the modern MiniMAGs having misleading definition of their actual capacity.
Everything else that has flowed or been explored about RED in the subsequent videos has stemmed from the revelations about the drives.
So, amongst the rest of it, don't lose sight of the fact that in the short term at least, the drives are the real story here because contravening the FTC regulations is actionable and the Lanham Act gives individuals and companies the right to sue anyone making such a false claim if they have been impacted by it.
How RED have conducted themselves regarding patents and corporate structures and so on are one thing but if anyone can explain why the use of "Made In USA" isn't anything but deceptive then I'm all ears.
Also, if any of you have your own opened REDMAGs that you can show pictures of to demonstrate that a claim of "Made In USA" is viable for your one then, of course, I'm all eyes.

Meh. The screenshot is nice. The actual footage didn't look impressive, at least on my screen. Not bad, just not better than a lot of current hybrid footage. Definitely didn't seem on a level with cine camera footage, though some other Komodo clips have, at least for me.

I much prefer not having IBIS in a camera. It actively turns me away from  a purchase. If i'm going to shoot handheld, its because I want the shot to be handheld and have the associated movement.
On to the Komodo. It's actually a camera that somewhat tempts me. To me the main selling point of this camera is the GS. Motion on the camera looks great. I also like the form factor, It would be cool to have a EVF that makes use of the top monitor. It looks very well built too. Red IQ isn't much of an upgrade on the competition. Red DR is very similar to cameras like the S1H & P6K, just measured differently. Colour science is very subjective but in a properly colour managed workflow it doesn't matter to much. The main things that turn me off the camera are: the slow boot time, menus and UI no 6K 50p. I think the RF mount was a good choice, it seems a lot of the competition don't have access to the mount. If I had a Komodo, I'd have my fingers crossed that the Zeiss release the Loxia lineup in RF mount.

I understand what rolling shutter is.
Let me explain even more clearly.  If I pick up a camera and shake it while recording, I get motion in the footage because the camera is pointing in a different direction when each frame was exposed.  This is called camera motion.  If that motion is caused by something like a smooth pan or tilt or is very gradual and smooth, then the motion will have a certain aesthetic, but if that motion is not smooth, but is very jerky with lots of small motion, then it will have a different aesthetic.
Engaging a Global Shutter so that the whole frame begins and ends it's exposure at the same time (hey look - I did know what a global shutter is!) does not negate the fact that the camera is facing a slightly different direction each time a frame was exposed.  IBIS, on the other hand, actually does negate the fact that the camera is facing a slightly different direction each time a frame was exposed, and under the right situation, will remove that motion from the footage.
I get that you dislike the aesthetic of RS, and so switching to GS "fixes" it for you, but I dislike jittery camera motion, which GS does not fix.
I'd link to a video explaining the differences between IBIS and GS in order to reflect back your level of condescension when you fail to understand what someone is saying and automatically respond by thinking you're smarter than them, but I don't think that anyone would have made a video on the topic because the differences are obvious.  Or so I thought.

JordanWright reacted to Yurolov in Canon RF Mount Red Komodo Style Camera On the Way?
Because they will make a focal reducer for it to be used with EF glass, which is what everyone has. It is the best of both worlds, where you get FF look and the small size and frame rate capabilities of a super-35 sensor. The benefits here are that the form factor should allow continuous recording in all frame rates and all conditions unlike the a7siii. Plus the advantages of internal nd, battery life and audio ports.
I doubt it will have ibis if they are advertising it in their cinema line. I know it is controversial but there is clearly a lot of resistance to ibis in the cinema lines of most brands.
For people like me who don't shoot photos, I am just glad they are steering away from the hybrid form factor of the a7siii.

Over at CR they are reporting an RF mount cinema camera is going to be announced this month. I also found an article from Sept reporting a Canon patent application for what looks like a similar form factor to the Red Komodo:
    https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/news/move-over-red-canon-may-be-making-its-own-rf-mount-cinema-camera
Of course the codecs are not as good as the Red's but if these specs are true then Canon literally added every feature that I felt was missing from the Komodo (XLR, internal ND, better AF). As much as I wanted a true hybrid, this could be my GH5 replacement after all.
Same Super35 sensor as the Canon Cinema EOS C200 Internal ND filters (mechanical) up to 6 stops 2x Mini XLR inputs Full-size HDMI 4K 4:2:2 10bit in ALL-I and IPB up to 120p 1x CFexpress Type B Slot 2x SD UHS-II slots External RAW recording options up to 4K 120P 2x LP-E6NH batteries Camera size smaller than the EOS-1D X Mark III Price: $4499 USD

I've taken a similar approach to my travels in having multiple setups as backups.  Considering that although my trips are holidays, they're similar in that we're away from major cities with electronics stores, we have tight schedules that aren't flexible, and I won't want to repeat the same one for lost footage so it's a now-or-never kind of thing.
I went through my whole setup looking for single points of failure and eliminating them.  I have multiples of every item and can, at a pinch, have anything fail and still continue shooting.  The only weakness of the setup was that my backup body wasn't that great.
Also, because I had backups of everything I essentially have duplicate setups, and so can film things from multiple angles if I choose to.
I disagree.  IBIS can reduce and even eliminate hand-shake to create smoother and even locked-off shots, whereas global shutter means that whatever movement is there isn't removed, it's just far less objectionable.  Also, IBIS on wide lenses can combine with lens distortion and RS to create wobbling that global shutter does not introduce.
So IBIS and GS both have strengths and weaknesses, but aren't equivalent.  They're different tools for different jobs.

The Micro is really due an update. Especially with the Z-Cam/Komodo using the same form factor and being quite popular. It would make sense that they use their new sensor technology in upcoming cameras.  I read somewhere that a MFT crop of that 12K sensor is 8K. It would be cool if they could use the full S35 12K sensor but limited to 8k full sensor recording.

Maybe it is safe to assume that J. Brawley has at least some weight of consulting influence to BM plans. It seems that his enjoy to participate in forums discussions provide closest possible information through wall of anti-hints attitude that IMO looks dictated and compatible with rest of G. Petty personality expressions. Last that I've read by mr Brawly about that matter is (quote from Personal View):
"It's funny people talk about how great the Z cam is, but I think that BMD kind of did it first with the MICRO. A camera I use a lot. My personal wish would be for them to update THAT camera, maybe go to a full MFT sized version of the 12K sensor."
